I'm setting up a new room with a bunch of Gavita De fixtures. The manual says not to coil the cords but I see so many photos in IG where the receptacle is right next to the ballast, cord is coiled and plugged in very close to the ballast for a real clean look on the install.

My room is setup similar, with the plug right next to the ballast and I've got an 8' cord to deal with. Can I not just coil the cord, zip tie it and plug it in?

Any insight is much appreciated, thanks!

There are 2 reasons not to coil cords.

1. It causes stress and they could break sooner.
2. It creates an impedance loop and could cause an electrical feedback.

But, the risk is minor. Coil if you need to.
