I've read this before but cannot remember it. Are the number of fingers on each leaf directly related to intensity/quality of light? Or do they multiply as the nodes stack if the light is right? Not sure and wondering.

My understanding is that if all other factors are as they should be, i.e. light, humidity, temperature, etc...., then the number of fingers is simply a matter of age of that particular leaf.

If the plant is heat-stressed for instance, then it will almost certainly have fewer fingers than it would if it weren't heat-stressed. Same goes for deficient plants. cold plants, etc...
