I have a related rant. It's when people give advice before they know the type of growing someone is doing. Sometimes that's okay, but sometimes it isn't. Many times, the differing recommendations are confusing, and the newbie can't know who to believe.
I’ve had to catch myself going soil when the op is coco or dro. I hate it when I do it, but then I can switch gears and still help, I find it happens most when I have been on multiple threads lending a hand…..

I can dig it. 👊🏻🤡

You figure it out and make the correction. Not everyone does, or maybe some don't realize there's a difference. IDK I've been there, too, so maybe I shouldn't be critical. I've seen a list of questions, but it's long and might be intimidating. Maybe a shorter list with just a few basic questions would be better.

If anything it’s just constructive criticism.
I actually appreciate that. Now I’ll be more mindful. Sometimes all we need is a little reminder…..the clown abides 🤡

It’s kinda turning into a brainstorming session on what we can do as a beginners guide that isint as vague as most books etc are built isint so complicated that a novice could follow the guide and harvest their first plant. Basically a training wheels guide 🤔
Exactly!

Exactly! That's why I'm thinking if we can get people off on the right foot, with bulletproof growing guides, nice and simple/basic, build from there.

Yeah I gotta catch myself too. It's hard being knowledgable helping a beginner. I gotta remember to dumb it down or deviate.
Ever been to a Facebook group? There's one by a well-known growing equipment company, but they don't moderate it. It's thus dominated by bullies who act like they learned to grow directly from their god. After a few tries to help, I gave up.
I'm game! Where this group at? I'm feeling a little feisty today mua hahaha! Nah, just kiddin...or am I? 🤣

Maybe have a go to list of experienced growers listed and sorted by types of growing. Then when a new has problems we all know who to tag

I would somehow try to categorize it into the 3 basics, soil, coco and hydro. I think formatting it would be one of the biggest challenges, although a simple idea, without a simple structured format it could bounce all over the place
Kinda four really, soil, no till, Hydro/coco. Coco is hydro like we used to use perlite/tree bark...waaay back in the early 90s lol.

I used to think Perlite mix was what hydro was till I learned plants roots can sit in water 24/7. That's when I started experimenting DWC. Coco has its differences and it's hella popular so it needs a category of its own.

Here's an incomplete video I'm working on. I'm going to keep merging videos to it until I get the seeds in the the grow room and explaine how to manage the plants 4 weeks to the flip. Basic as anyone can get. Video is for ideas, suggestions and a tutorial, for those that care, that shows how im trying to do this. So easy that anyone can do it. After new growers learn this they can do whatever they want as far as tricks or tweaks that fit themselves.

YES! I want to be able to say, 'go check out SquigglyGdawg at THCfarmer, hes an expert with Coco and has a bulletproof method for success dumbed down for the absolute beginner. Him and others can help you with anything related to Coco.'

When I say 'and others' they gotta be on board with SquigglyGdawgs beginner tutorial to keep it simple. If the person needs help and they have more experience then advanced stuff can be talked about.

The whole idea of this is to take masses of information and throw most of it out the window. ABCs-123s.

I gotta say majority of the people that I help usually it’s through PM, normally they are getting too many mixed suggestions and just go and message me instead, which I’m fine with, ive helped with simple single questions, as well as I’ve helped a few beginners through their first grow, start to finish then started watching as they took the reigns and started slaying it. Once people build confidence the questions usually dwindle down and you start seeing more comments and pictures than questions, then you know you got em through the scary part 👍 As much as it feels rewarding to help I know how much more it means to the person who got that first harvest, to me that’s what this is all about!

Believe me I consider myself far from being an expert, maybe “experienced” but by no means expert, always tons more to learn, tons more to try, and tons of issues you’ve never encountered before, in reality, we’re all noobs from each time we plant a seed until we harvest it 😁

Post of the day!

Same here, every.single.word in that post. If yall ever see me being cocky it's because there's a poser around trying to defame me. Plus it's fun cuz I can make silly videos to burn em up lol. This is all fun to me, like a gimmic. I've always liked this site, not many posers last here. It's like a safe space here lol.

I just wanted to drop in and say I think this is such a great idea. Especially splitting in to different mediums.

I've had so much help from so many friendly, knowledgeable and just good people on here so far that I feel far more confident about what I'm doing (famous last words...lol!)

Hopefully I can contribute something to this someday but I'll continue to try and pay it forward in the meantime. 🙃

Pro tip, chloramine does not evaporate, very important to know what sterilizer your municipality uses, 24 hours to evap chlorine, but for chloramine you’ll need to filter it out, I use a hose bib in my basement and run my water through one of these type filters, they are made to remove chlorine/chloramine and VOC’s (just a carbon filter basically) I usually pick them up on Amazon some are sold as RV in line filters, some are for pool water etc just check that they remove chloramine (I’m probably spelling that wrong 🤣)

But even with that I still let them sit out for 24 hours, here’s mine, yes those are the misquito bits in the bottom (BTI)

Cool tip I learned awhile back from an old member here
