Hell yeah that’s true but the time it’s mixed with chopped cover crop and leaves it should break down fine once it starts breakin down a bit and the worms get into em

Just because organic straw that’s bug and pesticide free is really expensive to source when.. we basically have our own lol
I couldn’t keep it in the pots it was blowing all around my tent

It doesn’t matter how long it takes you will be using that soil for years. I think you will be shocked how fast they completely disappear
I used to after each grow cut the plants and hide the leafa and branches in flower pot and cover it with dirt.i would water it soo it doesnt get super dry but nothing was growing.after half a year you couldnt find anything in the pots and maybe 70% was just leafs and branches rest was normal dirt

jumped up the power yesterday hittin 450ppfd at 48” from the light, pulling just under 820w on the lights in here plus about 200-250 on fans and lights and exhaust. Also the UV IR comes on for 3.5 hours total a day split into 2x 1 hour runs one morning and one night and 1.5 hours at noon that jumps the PPfD up A bit during that time , 4x4 with the SE3000 is at 260w total minus the exhaust at 360 ppfd

Have you ever fought about buying smaller lights to use for early stages?i couldnt use 800w for 2 sprouts
I think you could pay them in a few grows just from saved electricity cost
Oh I can lol I but I’m not too worried I like to let the environment stay consistant. Let them grow into the lights I mean I could drop the lights down to 16” and drop it to 200 w but it’s all good, I already have a PL1000 unused in the 2x2 but I may pick up 2x SE1000’s eventually just to run the cover crop over each bag between cycles and during early veg, wouldent even haven’t o remove the big lights just run the smaller ones hanging through the big ones then remove em when I start up the larger lights

Started a huge batch of aloe FPJ today. I was given a crate of huge aloe today. So I chopped it up weighed it and added an equal amount of brown sugar. Mixed it up and coated the top with a little more brown sugar. Covered the top with a rag. Now I’ll let it ferment for about a week until it starts to bubble pretty good. Then I’ll sift it and refrigerate.

It’s crazy how fast the sugar pulls the liquid out of the plant materials.
That’s awesome! And then you let it ferment for a few weeks? So what is the intention of the mix, like what specifically are you using it to provide for the soil?

It’s usually only like one week. Then I will add as much water as I got juice out of it and turn that into vinegar for lowering ph.

The fpj is more for the plants than the soil. However the sugars in it will stimulate microbe growth. I like the aloe fpj during veg to help root growth. During flower cantaloupe fpj is a huge potassium source.

Decided to start up a new topic for this new setup. I have decided to go to full living organic soil, while I was running organics in 12 gallon pots we are increasing everything.

The setup continues to build but the game plan is simple, 3x 30 gallon Grassroots Living Soil Pots, soil will be a mix of 2 bags of Diamond Duke Dominion blend, and 1 bag of Build a Soil Light Recipe per 30 gallon pot, plan will be to keep the soil level somewhat low, with 3 cubic feet of soil totaling about 22.5 gallons of soil per bag to start them off

They will be getting Landrino white clover cover crop as well as a 13 seed cover crop mix. Also plan to top with straw, will have red wigglers coming when the bags are put together

Bases for each bag are a 24” hot water tank heater drain pan, 5 cinder brick stood on their side, and on top is 2 pieces of coated clothes racks 30”x18” each overlapping 6” in the middle resting on the center brick there will be the 2 in the 4x8 and 1 in the 4x4 soil and base and bag here and ready to go in as soon as the 4x4 empties, no rush she smells like Hawaiian Punch in there 😜👊👊

Once the current run finishes in the 4x4 and I can move in the bag I’ll fill all 3 up and start the cover crop, the cuts going in will be done 1x of the revegged Frostette #6, 1x kahuna #2, and 1x Kahuna #3

figured I’d start the topic ahead of time as I gather materials and get stuff set up!
That is a cracking set up 👍

Came here to exactly see this, looks awesome! 😎
Well welcome to the farm! Gald you decided to join me along in my grow!

Yeah I was already doing “traditional” organic already, this jump to living soil.. I kinda just went all out haha

I do some synthetic runs too I don’t hate 🤣 I’m sure they will be by far more than between now, my veggie garden will be around soon (I have a few seasons posted around here in my other topics) that’s all organic as well, built from scratch 40x60 garden

But as for this run, Once I find something I like, like these 3 are my keepers, one of the 2 kahunas will take the prize as the new permenant kahuna mother, the other will be culled off.
