I can answer bro. Its to keep light out through the fan exhaust. This type is taken from photography dark rooms. Some even have an entrance built with panels the same way.

What’s the purpose?

I had a grow box in my flat. Just wanted to keep it hide from visitors. I had extra silent fan, carbon filter etc. and the only thing I needed to do was to hide the light from inlet fan hole. This light trap solved that problem.
