Many thanks to our friend LKABudMan (all media) for having this amazing growing diary of VGrow. 🪴 💚

Welcome! I'll be growing Cannapot Kush Mints in coco in the new VIVOSUN VGrow Smart Grow Box. Geared toward first-time growers with limited space, this revolutionary grow box is all about making your cultivation experience easier, more convenient, and successful.

The Future of Growing Starts Here!

I'm trying to accomplish several things with this grow:
  • Grow a mother for my next photo grow - I'll be taking clones for the 5x5 tent in 4-6 weeks
  • Evaluate VIVOSUN's new VGrow box - I'll find and report any bugs/issues to help refine the final product. I'm hoping all of you can help with that, letting us know what you want to see in the VGrow.
  • Make this grow as easy and repeatable as possible - I want someone with no experience to be able to duplicate this grow. By the end, I hope to have step-by-step instructions for a new grower using the VGrow.
I'm really excited to demo the VGrow. I've been in discussions with the dev team at VIVOSUN for nearly a year now. My vision has always been a stylish, discreet grow box that my kids can use in their apartments. I LOVE all of the features it has, including:

Light - Integrated 100w Samsung LM301H EVO LED with adjustable spectrum and intensity
Exhaust - Built-in exhaust with an integrated carbon filter (replaceable), ensuring that your indoor space maintains a pristine, odor-free environment.
Ventilation - VGrow has a patented multi-dimensional airflow system, combining bottom-to-top airflow with airflow coming from the sides. With both internal and external air circulation, it creates the perfect environment for your plants to thrive.
Built-in Swick base - The VGrow has a swick base. It even has built-in sensors to show your water level.
Accessories & Supplies - The accessories kit comes with a trellis net, clippers, and other things you'll need. The supply kit contains everything you need for one grow except for a seed (I think they are still trying to work with a seed vendor). This includes the fabric pot, a brick of coco, nutrients, and some other equipment. It also contains a replacement carbon filter for the exhaust.

The hardware is really only half of it, though. Paired with the VIVOSUN app(compatible with iOS and Android), you can manage your plants from anywhere. Adjust climate conditions like lighting and humidity, and ensure your plants get the water they need with smart irrigation control. The app will take you from seedling all the way through harvest and drying, helping guide you along the way. The software is still being refined, but the plan is to walk a new grower through the entire process.

I'm really hoping to get plenty of feedback on this journal. This is a chance to have a grow box designed by growers for growers. Let's help VIVOSUN make the VGrow The Future of Growing!

What am I growing?
CannaPot - Kush Mints fem photo (Ape Origin). This is the second cannapot seed I've grown, the first being Forbidden Fruit (a favorite of mine). I have really high hopes for this lady.

- Brand: Ape Origin
- Sex: Feminized
- Flowering type: Photoperiod
- Effect: Relaxed | Euphoric | Hungry | Aroused
- Taste/Smell: Minty | Cookie/Biscuit | Pine | Gas | Sour
- Genetics: Bubba Kush x Animal Mints
- Terpenes: Limonene, with Caryophyllene & Linalool
- THC: 23-28%
[pic from cannapot]

What am I growing in? I'll be growing in Coco Coir for the first time. I'm not sure what nutrients I'll be using, but I've started with Megacrop 1-part (MC) @ 1.5g/G.
- Medium: Coco Coir
- Pot: Start in the final pot - 3 Gallon grow bag
- Water: Carbon-filtered well water @ 100ppm/8.1pH
- Nutrients: Megacrop 1-part @ 1.5g/G (grams per Gallon)

Lung room: My home office:
- Temps: 60-72f - My office is upstairs and we rarely turn the heat on up there. I'll use a space heater if needed.
- Humidity: based on ambient.

Any other equipment? I'm trying to only use the equipment that came with the VGrow.

Thanks for joining me in this journal!

News about VGrow Smart Grow Box will come soon, if you ever have an interest in VGrow, please stay tuned!!!

I started the seed the same way I always do. I soaked an EZ-Gro plug in water for a couple of hours. Then, on Nov 12 at 4:20 I put the plug in a @VIVOSUN propagation tray and put the seed in the plug about 1/2" down. I covered the seed with a little piece of plug and then put the dome on top. I placed it on my VIVOSUN heat mat set and then left it alone ;)

There were only supposed to be five seeds, but there were six in the pack (FREE SEED!).

Four days later (Nov 16), Moira sprouted.

Meanwhile, I was putting together the new vGrow cube. It comes in a neat little suitcase box.

It's really easy to put together. The frame snaps together in about a minute, then a few more minutes to get the skin attached. A couple more minutes to plug in the temp/RH probe and plug the water sensor into the base. Everything fit together perfectly.

The bad: The magnetic seal for the door was damaged in shipping. The door doesn't quite seal all the way, with a little gap right on the front-left. I'm not worried about it for this grow since my office is dark at night. Vivosun is aware and is working to resolve the problem.

Day# 2 from seed

This will be my first Coco grow. I got a couple of bricks of coco and put them in a tote. Then I added 1 gallon of cal-mag solution @ 250ppm/5.8pH to rehydrate the coco. After a couple of hours, it was all fluffy and looked ready to use. I packed the 3G cloth pot that came with the VGrow kit with the coco, leaving a small hole for the plug. I then coated the hole and planted the plug. I covered everything up, even mounding up the middle a bit. I'm not used to going straight into the final pot, she looks so small in there.

Finally, I mixed up a 1.5g/G MC solution, around 250ppm/5.8pH. I watered her well, making sure she was well incorporated into her new pot. After she was done running off, I filled the VGrow Swick base with about 1/2G of nutrient solution and put her on the base.

At this point, my version of the VIVOSUN app can't connect to the VGrow prototype, so I just have it on Seedling mode. This is 18/6 light @ 50% with no circulation of ventilation. It's only day# 2 (Nov 17) and Moira is already in her final pot in coco in her swick base and in her new home. I'm planning to watch her for a while and see how she does on her own. She looks like a fighter, so I think she'll be fine ;)

Day# 15 from seed
Coco with MC 3g/G

Wow, those first two weeks went by quickly. Until two days ago, I haven't been able to 'connect' to the VGrow. I needed a new version of the app and would have to erase my current app/gardens first week: Since I wasn't willing to do that, I was going to try to get my wife's iPad and get the app loaded on there. So, Moira just sat in 'seedling' mode at around 1.0 VPD (70f/70%RH) for most of the first two weeks. She didn't seem to mind too much. She's growing slowly, but it's a little cool up here too.

Fortunately, procrastination worked this time. Two days ago I updated my VIVOSUN app (on Android) and the new version allowed me to connect to the VGrow! Now, instead of a general 'seedling' mode, I'm able to run recipes just like my other gardens. I've started a recipe and put Moira in Vegetative mode. I have her measured at about 25 DLI on an 18/6 schedule with a 1.2-1.2 VPD.

*NOTE* The break in the graph above early Tuesday morning is due to my internet, which sucks and drops out frequently. Everything still works, it just doesn't register on the app.
Now the bad. When I updated the app and the VGrow firmware the water sensor no longer appears to work. Also, before connecting I could touch the VGrow screen and it would display everything on the front. Once connected to the app, the touchscreen is no longer active. I found a place in the app to change the screen to 'always on', but I would like to be able to touch the screen to see the details. Both of these issues have been submitted to the dev team.

With the long Thanksgiving weekend, Moira was pretty much ignored. When I checked on her earlier this week she was definitely getting a little light. I guess I really wasn't paying attention, because her swick base was empty! She was on seedling feed anyway (1.5g/G). I mixed up a gallon of early veg (3g/G) and top-watered her a little in a circle around the stem. Then I re-filled her swick base. I can't wait until they fix the water sensor so the app can let me know when the water is low. Until then, I'll check her every couple of days.
