Hey guys currently not with my stored photos otherwise id give you some bud porn while answering back.

I have been given the sweet pink grapefruit clone, a very resinous bc god bud clone, and a bubba kush clone(not sure on authenticity), and a ssh clone. Ive been looking to buy some of subcools gear but ive had some second thoughts now. Im looking for that ssh all around high. Any ideas on what type of male i should look for.

All my breeding is for my own personal medical use. I want to breed specifically to my own needs and desires.

There are so many great breeders here and different projects going on. I read one thread anx im sold on indica, read another and all the sudden im looking up every landrace sativa out there. Being as everyone in my close network of friends runs heavy indicas i can get those anytime.

So to anyone who has grown sativas... Where do i want to start hybridizing? What breeder should i look into. What strains should i start with. Any and all help will be greatly valued.

I ended up getting reefermans o-haze, gonna toss the pollen here in a the next week or so. Im hoping to find some beauties outta the bubba kush x haze, and the sweet pink grapefruit x haze. Ill keep updating after the seeds are done. Ive got a long road ahead of me for my first breeding project. But the rewards are worth it all.

Thanks sputnik, just put my order in yesterday for the accidental haze. I was on another site today and i saw a lot of beef about reef's strains. Have you experienced any issues with his gear?

Foremost is to find plants that share physical characteristics that you'd like to further advance. Next you have to consider buzz, flavor, environmental needs, disease resistance, appearance, scent, and many other less easily-identifiable factors.

You're starting out with two hybrids, so I wouldn't expect too much success, honestly. Any worthwhile breeding project needs stable landrace strains for the P1 generation, if for no other reason but that they're disease resistant and hardy.

Dr detroit thanks for the insight. I want to get to a point when i have pure landrace genetics and i can start a respectable project. I just dont know where to start. I havent grown enough sativas to know what to look for. I decided to try the o-haze to get my foot in the door, but im very open to any suggestions for a good landrace.

Well, that advice hinges on some info from you. Mostly I need to know whether you'd grow indoor or outdoors.

Depending on that answer I'd need further info:
indoor - What types of lights and how many
outdoor - what latitude you're in and a description of the local weather

Let me know and I can help you with your strain search probably.

hasnt the haze been inbred enough though to be considered stable enough to make a descent breeding parent?

Im an indoor guy all the time. Ive got a 1000w hps for flower and 200w t-5s for veg. But as far as height goes the sky is the limit. I grow with an ebb and flo system i built myself. But from time to time i go back to the basics and grow in 100% organic soil.

Well, Johnursery is correct that some of the Haze varieties are appropriate, as they've been properly stabilized over time. In my own shop our strongest THC content ever tested was from a Super Silver Haze (33.7%), so potency isn't an issue. Haze's can be some of the more tricky plants to grow though, so keep that in mind.

I'd recommend some UVB supplementation if you're going to grow a sativa. It's a critical part of the spectrum for them in particular. Using an unshielded metal halide bulb is good, or a few reptile CFL's will do fine also.

If you're truly looking for strong and genetically distinct Parent generation landrace varieties you could try The Real Seed Company, World of Seeds, Afropips, etc. Look for physically similar plants with characteristics that you would like to advance further and begin the search for your male. Don't choose the quickest ripener or the fastest grower, but look for more subtle aspects with him like scent, vigor, compact bracts, and health. Once he's locked down plant as many females as you can get and choose your perfect one.

Indoor I'd probably recommend using breeds already adjusted to indoor growing if your project has any size limitations. Just vetting the poor indoor performers will take a lot of time and patience.

A good Super Silver Haze male P1 crossed with an impressive Jamaican Pearl P1 maybe?

The SSH is good indoors, more compact and manageable, stable, and potent; while the JP is healthy, tasty, and good in most environments. It works on paper, but such things are really predictable...

The original haze has been an amazing plant. So far ive had multiple friends reply that it was to intense for them. I found a very pungent and productive father that i decided to use as my first cross. Seeds are all mature. Im writing to keep everyone updated on my project. The first testing will be on my sweet pink grapefruit x original haze. And the bubba kush x original haze. I will be focusing on the bubba kush cross the closest while the spg will be passed among some close friends for testing.

Cannarado sounds like some great crosses. Wish i could say they were mine :) but if you do crack them expect at least 12 weeks from the o haze side. I liked my that were cut at 13 weeks.

The bubba is a great strain that is covered in trichomes but it lacks the potency I want and it grows compact throughout and very bushy. I'm hoping the haze influence will create some vigor and stretch it out a bit while maintaining some of the Kush taste and structure. Very excited if you couldn't already tell.
