Ugh. Where’d you learn that? 90%??? That’s a big number.

yes it is and a scary one. but here is the info.
HLVd was first identified at a California pot farm in 2019, and it’s now infected at least 90% of California’s cannabis grows, according to a 2021 estimate. It’s spreading globally, and a recent scientific paper declared the pathogen was the “biggest concern for cannabis” growers worldwide.
it's on this site as well. https://www.thcfarmer.com/news/wide...es-over-90-of-californias-cannabis-farms.371/

It’s not the end of the world,
Tissue cultures are the ticket if you have this issue.

Thanks for that. I’ve been concerned about plant epidemics as I’ve come to learn how much crossing occurs in cannabis gardens.

Maybe we need a secure vault in the arctic to preserve old and landrace varieties, like what’s been done for food crops to preserve genetic diversity.

It is an issue of concern and it is spreading across many facilities in the nation as we speak.

I posted a little bit about this in a previous thread here - https://www.thcfarmer.com/threads/is-this-the-hop-latent-virus.135533/post-2857023 and https://www.thcfarmer.com/threads/cannabis-diseases-of-concern.148790/#post-2957147

I attended a seminar about this viroid at last year's CannaCon.

It is very expensive to treat and get rid of it. They say it's more cost effective to prevent it than it is to try to get rid of it, as the only real way to get rid of it from an infected plant is tissue culture, and the only way to clean a facility is to literally wash everything with a 10% bleach solution.

The biggest problem is the fact that it is so hard to detect or diagnose. A lot of facilities have this viroid and don't even know it.
