Hi all, I'm after some advice please, I have 2 plants in the ground in a pollytunnel, throughout the whole grow no issues at all plants grew big and strong. The issue I have now is they are in flower but to tell for the polytunnel and the main cola is up touching the roof. My girls are flowering lovely but I want to try to save the top flower from damage or mold from. I've tried to tie it over but the stem is to thick to pull down to much. Can i or should I top it later into flower or just let it grow. This is an outdoor grow with just the sunlight. The girls are gelato autoflower which are now about 6.5' tall. Any help please?

Personally I’d take a rope and tie down the mains that are touching, someone else is in a greenhouse and was using planks to weight down the plants, I’ll look for the topic and link if I find it😁

Ps plants are looking nice and healthy!

Thanks for the advice I'll try to tie them down more without breaking the stem, I just didn't know whether I should top them this late. A lesson learned for the next grow I think

yep next time I suggest tying them down right at flip, then I like to re check and tie down more if needed after about a week once the stretch starts I’ve helped tie down 9 foyers outside, go very slowly especially with mains, tie them down just enough to get some clearance if stretch is over

Thanks again for the advice and warm welcome to the forum. I can see that this place is going to be a great source of advice throughout my grow journey. I'll be sure to follow up with how I get on with this grow and any future grows

Blacksteve,

It’s work but….

If it’s a dirt floor, dig a pit and place the plants in the hole you dug. If they are flowering it won’t be putting on much more height.

This I would say is option 1 if possible!

(Bending won’t hurt them at all if that’s what you gotta do)

Thanks zill but my girls are already planted in the ground and I wouldn't want to jeopardise what I already have by transferring them.
I have already been out this morning and re tied the plants so they are not touching the roof and I'll re check in a day or so.

I'll definitely be hanging around, no doubt I'll need more advice in the future or perhaps I can pass on to another new grower what I have learned with my experience. My next grow will be in the polytunnel during winter so I can expect problems already but I have to try in order to learn. I'll start a new thread about that when I start. I am open to advice on auto strains to try during the winter tho

Blackstone,

Where, region, are you located? Just curious given the poly ptunnel. I’m in NY Hudson River valley, ten miles north of the West Point military academy.

One last comment, the sun is changing. Can you remove the sun screen in the tunnel? Maybe gain a foot.

Zill I'm in the southwest of England uk,
this is only the 2nd time I've tried to grow, the 1st time I germinated and planted too late in the year and in pots, I ended up with nutrient deficiency and what did grow had bud rot because it was finishing to late and there was a lot of damp. This time I started mid may, planted in the ground got a good start and we have had quite a lot of sun this year and still getting it now hence the size of my girls and the sort of good problem I have.
The other issue I have is uk laws regarding growing so i have to stay hidden in the garden, otherwise i would attempt to grow massive trees outside.

Stay hidden. This year I took advantage of global warming and got the plants in the ground first week in April. One month earlier than recommended for this region. They are huge. I’m watching the track of the monster hurricane Lee. Could spell the end of my season.

Hopefully zill the hurricane will pass you by and it wont be the end of your season. Would love to see how you grow and the final size of your plants after starting a little earlier

I’ll send a pic. Right now we are experiencing very heavy thunderstorms.

I had three feminized sativa plants and two wild type indica plants. One of the indica became a male. Trashed. This week the female indica began sprouting pollen sacs. Damn hermaphrodite. Trashed.

The three sativa plants were getting too big so I gave two away. My last remaining cannabis this last week snapped at the ground. Jeez. So I stabilized the base. Ran a few 3” drywall screws through the trunk into stakes next to the trunk. Seems to be doing OK. I don’t see water stress. All I need is two three more weeks.

Blackstone,

I promised a pic of the sativa. Like I said, shortly after this pic wind snapped the main trunk at the ground. I stabilized it. It doesn’t seem to be in any water stress. I expect the leaves to begin to yellow, especially the fan leaves. But watching the pistils they went from pearly white to brownish/ brown pretty quickly. I am surprised it’s alive. The buds are filling out.

Zill.
