I've grown Photoperiods for years and always thought the same thing about Autos, why grow them?

I've now grown 1 Auto to harvest and now running 3 Autos in a 4x2. The 4x2 i designated as my Auto tent now.
You won't understand growing Autos until you do it yourself, that's what it took for me.

Because of the time restraints, can make some into better growers but definitely not for beginners, I would recommend photoperiods to anyone starting out in the hobby.

I have a 8ft x 4ft flower room with 6 plants, normally I do 3-4 plants and the second flower room 2.2m x 1m, currently doing 2 plants, tbh could get 3 in there, I like to grow large plants, 3ft high and 3ft wide, as I live in the UK keeping plant count low is at the top of my list

I would have to start 24 seeds( that would cost loads) clones are free, I would spend nearly double on the electric, auto are hit and miss, crops will take longer as auto don't like potting up so a small veg room not ideal, not saying some auto don't yield loads I am sure they do but with photo seeds I can keep the best plants going for years, (clones)

If I was pulling one crop a year in a small tent it could be a good idea but I would be out of practice, so the extra veg time could double my crop.

The oversized 4x2 (55"x28"x80") that has the 3 Autos in, I did 3 Photoperiods in it for the first grow in that tent and harvested 19.77 ounces total dry from those plants.

The first Auto I grew, I harvested just over 2.5 ounces from it and it was only 18" tall.
Yeah I know not a ton but I've seen people get 3-4 ounces off of Autos while I've seen plenty of Photoperiod growers that don't even get that per plant.

Once I have more experience with Autos, I'm very confident I'll be growing some monsters.

I get that clones can support you for years from photoperiods, I personally don't have the space to take cuts and start my own clones so I'm from seed everytime.
I like to grow different strains each grow as well, occasionally I repeat but I love trying new strains and Autos let me grow and try new strains quicker.
If I had the space and was working on a breeding project, I would be taking clones.

Like I said, I felt the same way about Autos until I grew one.
If I wouldn't of found a killer deal on 25 Auto seeds, we wouldn't even be having this conversation right now

low temperature will stunt plant/bud growth, the plants will appear overwatered because it will take longer for the soil to dry out, it causes a lot of problems.

I build my own LEDS but I am sure you can buy a small led light that will fit,

I am facing a similar issue. Temps hit low 60's inside my tent at night and I am growing Original Glue (GG#4) and it is pretty fickle when it comes to temps and tends to throw pollen sacs if they swing too widely. I just finished up my second week of flower and they have doubled in height when they should have tripled. First week my humidity wouldn't go below 75%. I may be smoking seeded weed this winter. A whole 3x3 scrog of it. I do have backups that are rooting right now.

That's a great idea, basically free plants as your electricity cost is low.

Genetics definitely matter with autos. My favorites to grow are photo's, however, I always throw in a few nice autos in between grows. Let them hang in the veg tent for a while, then I just toss 'em in the flower tent. They do well and once you know how to handle the environments, they can be some of the best smoke and incredible looking buds you get. The 12/12 in the flower tent never seems to make a difference on them. But genetics matter. Most of the big guys are decent IMHO, Fastbuds, Mephisto, Night Owl. Night Owl has some killer cultivars. Get some good lights, go easy on the nutes and just give them what they ask for. I find, they love a deeper pot with nice and airy soil. Not necessarily a larger one, but deeper. If you grow them Hydroponically, you can get an amazing size and quality on them. I've left that style of grow for the organic, but it can prolong the veg state on certain autos. Bottom watering also helps them to grow more vigorously after a little dry period. But careful, any stress may cause it to flower prematurely. If you stick with it you will find your method and what works the best for you. These boards are loaded with decades of information for sure. A great place to volley ball techniques and methods back and forth. But even after figuring out what works for me, I still get a stunted or poor grower in the mix from time to time. It's all in the genes. :) Once you master watering your little lady, you will be in better shape. I still tend to over do it sometimes. I believe it's better to under water, than over.
