Careful not to go too small with your covering! You be surprised at how big these things can grow! If you’re growing photoperiod plant, they can do a heap of growing between June and late September! And pot size can limit that to a certain extent! Fabric pots are a lot more forgiving on the roots, then clay pots! A small clay pot will want to get root bound real quick! It can be a bit overwhelming at first! With all the choices you have to make! Strains, soil, pots, germinating, transplanting, but with a little bit of horse sense You can figure it out! And a few tips along the way! But it’s a great hobby for us that have 1 foot in the grave and the other on a banana peel!😂✌️ and since it’s your first rodeo, you wanna try and keep it as simple as possible!

I think that screen looks perfect, I don’t think that would filter out much light at all and the UV protection prob means that it won’t fall apart after a year in the sun.

Those clay pots sound smallish, like a gallon…small pots = small plants. Save your back and if you have a spot that gets even a couple hours of direct sun, I’d leave it right there in a bigger pot…saying this while sitting on my couch recovering from back surgery.
Good to know the scrren looks good. I'll probably try to get a couple a little taller. Good info on the pot size. I'lll go out and get some bigger ones.

Hang in there, hope you recover quickly!

And you can devise ways of dragging them around! Something as simple as putting a piece of cardboard underneath them will make that easier! Or if you have a lot of cement walkway, you can put the pots on a four wheeled dolly and roll them around like my brother does! Like piano dollies! They don’t cost much at Harbor freight!😁

Haha, absolutely, and I'm accident prone!

Fabric pots ... something like this? I'm in that place where I know so little it's hard to ask the right questions. Are they all the same fabric?

Yeah, I was wondering about the size of the pot, also the size of the tent. I do plan on cutting it off at about two or three feet, does that sound right?

I am a bit overwhelmed, and I'm trying to keep it as simple as possible.

By the way, can you recommed a good place to get seeds? I know some dispensaries sell them, but so few do and they don't seem to have a wide range of choices.

Yeah, that would work! But I would look around to find some tan ones! I don’t like black! Soak up too much heat! I think VIVO son has about the same thing for about the same price! You don’t necessarily need the holes in the rim! If you want to tie off on the pot, you can poke your own holes! The gray would be better than the black! Anything but black! Lol! But tan would be better! Not a huge deal! And I’ve used Humboldt seed company for the last three years! I don’t have any complaints with them! Sorry it took so long to get back to you! This phone doesn’t alert well! And I have a tendency to get loaded and take a nap at about 430 or five! Mostly the latter!😆🍻 the difficult part is keeping them that small! You might be able to do it through topping! But two or three plants are going to take up a hell of a lot of room! So the Skeeter netting might be a way to go! But you can get more opinions on that! That will be a month down the road! I don’t think Moths are that active during the day but start getting after it at dusk! I don’t deal with them! Don’t hesitate to ask away! Should be coherent till about 10 or 11!✌️

And for the sake of simplicity, for the soil, I would go with 35% Fox Farm Ocean Forest, 35% miracle grow moisture control, potting soil, and 30% perlite. You might just have to add water only through the entire grow! And I use the cheap horticultural perlite. The 4 ft.³ for less than 25 bucks per light! That will last you for years! Now these suggestions might get a little input from people who will beg to differ! Which is welcome!! And if you check out, HSC, the site has a lot of information on growing!

I'm going to look for a larger grow tent. Maybe I'll just grow two plants and get one tent for each. And I get you on the black pots, definitely. I'll look around for a lighter color material.

Clones are easy to find around here, but not seeds. I've read that it's legal to ship seeds in the mail? I wouldn't mind starting with clones, but I've also read that some of those clones could already be infested with one insect or another. Someone up thread mentioned BTS spray. But can you use that after they start to flower?

Thanks again for all your help.

Hey Charlie, the problem with clones is they usually tend to flower as soon as you put em outside, and if you do that this early in the season, they’ll stall out and revert to veg, then start to flower again…it’s a pain in the ass…get some fem’d seeds. Lots of places have 420 deals right now and will give you freebies if you spend like $50 or so.

I spray BT as soon as they start to flower and once a week until about a week or two before I harvest…if you wait to spray till you see damage or adults, it’s too late…you might still kill them, but they’ll die inside your buds and rot just like their shit does.

If you use the screens you wont have to spray anything.

Yeah, seeds are legal! They are below the legal Thc limit when they are seeds! I’ve never grown a clone!

Thanks, yeah I will use the screens for sure. I really appreciate all the help I've already gotten on this forum. Do you think it's necessary to start them indoors before putting them outside? I'm in So Cal and the weather gets warm down here pretty early.

Im in socal too…I start them outside in solo cups, then into their permanent home a couple weeks later. That way they are not having to adjust to any difference in lighting schedule.

That's great to know. Just little paper cups?

And since you have the plastic out and are ordering seeds, you might want to order a pack of autos! If you have a couple of extra pots, you might as well throw some soil in them, and grow some autos without covering them up and see what happens! They will probably be finished in early August!

Are autos as good to smoke? Are you saying I don't have to cover them up? I've read somewhere that one grower grew some uncovered to attract the moths to them kind of like decoys.

I guess you could do that use them as decoys! Ha ha! I think your tent space is going to be taken up by photos! Moths aren’t particular about the plants they lay eggs on! Just saying it might be a good learning experience to throw a few autos on the porch and see what happens! You might get lucky uncovered! And yeah, they’re good to smoke! If you can get them to the finish line! Just like all pot plants! If they get hammered by cats, it will give you a little preview of what you’re up against with your photos! Ha ha! You may not be in a caterpillar prone area! You don’t know until you grow!

Thanks for all your help with this. I feel like I know a lot more than I did a few days ago and I'm looking forward to trying everything out. It's much appreciated!!

And do as much reading up as possible! If you turn your porch light on at night and the moths start swarming I think you can plan on going to war sooner or later! And don’t turn that light on if you have any plants near!😆 ambient light at night is your enemy! And they’re not the only things that will try and kill your plants! You’re in for a hell of a good time!🍻
