What type of pots and dimensions?

That will play a big roll as well as soil structure.

Things to consider:

-Use of ammonia/ammonium ferts can lower root zone ph.

-plant respiration can lower ph so aeration is important

-microbe respiration can lower ph so again aeration is important.

-nutrient build up can lower PH as the makeup is generally acidic.

-Aeration can be improved by better watering techniques, better selcetion of containers and media mixes

Great list. I would guess the bottom of the pot stays wet a lot longer than the upper part.

Do your pots sit in dishes? Make sure you empty that runoff (or run-through, really) after watering.
