Hi all, i got an old but sturdy canon350d which I've been snapping away with for a few years now, someone said recently to me that i could take photos with the flash at lights out without stressing my plants - is this true?

else its back to pulling them out of the tent for some nice piccies -

also anyone know of a cheap proper macro lense (not the cheapy fleabay ones) fancy some nice budd pornage to show:cool0010:

Most people that shoot pics in the dark do it just before or after the lights come on or go off. Don't be hitting them with the flash in the middle of the dark cycle or sensitive plants may throw banana or worst (full on hermi).

The race is on bk :D

One more thing, if you're using HPS and have watched it fire you know there are a few seconds right after firing where the light spectrum is a totally different color. Those seconds provide a really nice blend for lighting a photo and might make it so you don't need the flash. Try to mentally setup your shot ahead of time and be there ready for lights on.

heh....your 350 should fire a pre-flash....keep looking through the viewfinder and usually there's enough light from the pre-flash to get an idea of what you're shooting. Otherwise, if you really fancy it - get an ST-E2 Speedlite Transmitter and a flash....the ST-E2 will allow you to focus in near pitch black using IR to guide focus (google it). You don't need the flash unit....you can use a tripod instead...if you want to save money.

when i wanted to take pics when i was in flower I would go in with a drop light, (a light on an extension cord) with a blue cfl in it, hold it up to what you wanna shot and take the pic, the blue light gets rid of the reddish hps spectrum, and you dont have to worry about the timing.

Would 10 mins (at the most) prior to lights on be ok for taking pics?
