Thanks for checking out the journal. For those who followed my last journal with the 4 Tangie autos, I will be growing this cut the exact same way (so skip down to the pics). For everyone else, here’s some deets.

Strain:
- Platinum Kush Breath clone from In-House Genetics.

Nutes, Soil, and Bennies:
-Gaia Green 4-4-4 All Purpose
-Gaia Green 2-8-4 Bloom
-General Organics CalMag+
-Fox Farm Ocean Forest
-Viagro Perlite
-Home Depot Earthworm Castings
-Blue Planet Nutrients Liquid Seaweed
-Great White Myco
-Potassium Bicarbonate (for PH up)

Equipment:
-Vivosun 3x3 grow tent
-Spider Farmer SF4000 Light
-Amazon 4” Exhaust Fan
-Reptizoo (Amazon) Reptile Humidifier
-BN-Link temp controlled on/off switch
-Walmart 6” 3-speed fan
-Aleta PH pen

If I forgot anything important I will add later.

I picked up this PKB clone on Dec 21st.
I decided to transplant her into a 1.5 gal square pot on day one instead of letting her outgrow the solo cup a little more. I filled the square pot with FF Ocean Forest slightly amended with additional perlite and earthworm castings. I saturated the soil prior to transplant using 1 gal RO water, 5ml CalMag+, 5ml liquid seaweed, and 1/4 tsp great white PH’d to 6.3. Sprinkled Great White in the hole and on the root ball. I swear it seems like this stuff virtually eliminated transplant shock. Gave a little more water just around the transplant area. I have the SF 4000 set about 3 feet above the top of the plant, pulling 155w from the wall (bout 30% on the dial).

If you haven’t found the right humidifier for you, give one of these reptile humidifiers a shot. I love these things. They are excellent at keeping the humidity in the set parameters you choose. A+ recommendation! Right now it set keep the humidity between 60%-65% and the BN Link is keeping temps between 75-78 degrees using the exhaust fan. Also been an excellent product! These two products make controlling the environment child’s play. Highly recommend both.

Day 6 from transplant: Topping day.

She’s moving along nicely doing her thing. I am headed out of town on vacation for a few days, so I will be watering her today as well, although typically I would wait another day or two as the top soil is only dry maybe an 1/8th inch deep.

Went ahead and topped her by just bending over the top node until it snapped off. Hopefully she has recovered and the side branches has caught up a bit by the time I get back

After watering I’ll close up the tent and let the setup run itself till I’m back. Now OFF TO VEGAS!!! Wish me luck 🤑

When you get back install the tent bottom tray to help keep your grow clean, as I see no bottom tray or reflective liner in the bottom of your 3x3' tent. Cheers SS

Thank You! I can’t say for certain because I’ve never grown IHG before, but I hope to answer that question with this grow.

Day 10 veg:

Very happy with the growth I came back to. All the side branching is catching up, and the the two new mains should be ready for some LST within the next 5 days or so. Was going to water again, but the pot is still very heavy, so I’ll check again in a few days.

**Forgot to give the water mix for the last posts water. I used 1/2 gal RO water, 1/2 tsp GO cal-mag, 1/2 tsp BPN liquid seaweed, 1/8 tsp Great White, and it took about 1/8 tsp potassium bicarbonate to bring the PH to 6.5.

Watered very slow, but she only took about a quart before I started getting runoff. Gave the rest to my chilis.

Also, my R/O system an AquaticLife home system that I got off of Amazon.

Day 10 cont: A few hours after posting the day 10 update, I decided to defoliate. I took off the majority of fan leaves, as well as the small side branching growing up from the bottom shoots. I took the trimmings, cut them into small pieces on the cutting board, and worked then into the top layer of soil.

Day 12 (no pic): watered with less than 5% runoff. I used 1/2 gal RO water, 1/2 tsp GO cal-mag, 1/2 tsp BPN liquid seaweed, 1/8 tsp Great White, and it took about 1/8 tsp potassium bicarbonate to bring the PH to 6.6. She took a little over a quart before runoff.

Day 13: I have officially run into challenge number 1 with this grow. Turns out the clone I purchased was already made home by some spider mites. This is a completely new issue to me (to my knowledge) as the only pest I have experience with prior to this are fungus gnats. I started noticing little spots on the leaves, but I knew there was no way I was showing deficiencies this early on. Flipped the leaves over and saw able to see tiny specs with the naked eye. The jewelers loup at 60x mag confirmed that it was spider mites. Even at 60x they were so tiny it was it was a struggle to see them. Gonna pic up a usb microscope soon. I wasn’t able to snap any pics of the mites, but in this pic you can see some of the damage on the fan leaf

I consulted with a trusted grower friend, and decided to use General Hydroponics Azamax as my first line of defense.

B3A436D5 0DA5 4169 9121 8DC5C8CB66A2

I mixed 1/2 TBSP into a quart of R/O water, not PHd. Pour this mixture into a spray bottle and drenched both the underside and top side of all the leaves. I was very careful to hit each leaf and hit it good. I did this once 20 minutes before lights out, and again 10 minutes before lights out. Here she is after the Azamax bath.
66294BF1 A49B 4C47 873F 46938C06B89A

Per the instructions I will reapply in 7 days to kill the new mites that will have hatched from the remaining eggs. The azamax is ineffective against the eggs. I will follow this routine for at least the next 4 weeks, contingent on improvement.

Day 14: the Azamax seems to have already taken some effect on the mites. I flipped over the leaves with some of the more noticeable damage and was not able to see any specs with the naked eye. Checked with the loupe and only found dead mites and some eggs. I believe this species is the two spotted spider mite. Day 14 progress pic

That sucks on the mites bro! My first ever grow was a couple clones I purchased at a nearby dispensary only to find webs covering my buds 3/4 of the way through flower. I'm sure I missed every sign along the way lol but I ended up trashing a whole plant, very cherry made me very sad haha. Been growing from seed ever since and haven't had an issue

It sucks, but challenge accepted I guess haha. New experience to add under my belt. Just glad I caught it now and not in flower 😰 This does have me thinking back to some of my earlier grows years ago and asking myself if those deficiencies were actually deficiencies.

About a week and a half of updates on this one. Thing definitely started taking a turn for the worst, but for now I saved her.

After I sprayed for spider mites, she rebounded but she started yellowing. I’m used to growing in FFOF for about a month before starting admendments, but she started yellowing around 2.5 weeks. This had me scratching my head looking at PH and doing all sorts of searching. Then I realized I started from a fully rooted clone, maybe she legit finished the nutes in the FFOF. This is how she was looking at the time
CA894F5E E74A 456D 935C AC5F26E0F35E

In this case, the pictures do the plant more justice then it looks. It was looking rough. I decided to brew a compost tea and see if that would help. It stopped the deficiencies from getting worse, but didn’t solve the issue. At this point I decided to go ahead and transplant into the final pot so that I could feed her. Amending the soil in the 1.5 would have been useless since it would have been a week or so for the nutes to be available to her and she would have been long gone by then. I went down to the local nursery and grabbed a bad of Recipe 420 soil. Never tried it before, but figure what the hell, let’s see what happens. I did make a mistake and grabbed the “outdoor” version of the soil, so I am fully expecting pest issues again in the future.

I decided to go with a 15gal fabric pot, which this bag of soil was advertised to fill (it didn’t). I amended the soil with 10Tbsp 4-4-4 all purpose and 5Tbsp 2-8-4 Bloom, as well as a few handfuls of earthworm castings and a gallon or two of perlite. This is how the mix looked when complete.

Day 29: I have now adjusted my ties outward 3 times allowing a lot of the undergrowth to make its way towards the light. Going to let her grow upward for a few days before installing the trellis to finish the canopy. She’s healthy and praying most days. Tent humidity is hovering between 50% and 60% without the humidifier so I’m running with that. I watered on day 26 with 2 gallons of my usual water mix. I switched my cal-mag back to bushdoctor instead of the G.O. stuff and noticed my PH is naturally coming out to 6.6 instead of mid 5s. And it doesn’t smell like ass, so I’m sticking with bushdoctor cal-mag. Light is still same height, still drawing 155w from the wall (30% on the dial).

For my “lst ties” I use plain old white string and a safety pin. Rolls are cheap and last forever! I’ve had the same roll for like 3 years. Open the safety pin in stab it into the fabric pot wherever you like. Easy to move around as well. I do a double knot at the pin, and a slip knot around the plant. You can adjust the size of the loop to pull the plant down, and anchor the line by tightening the knot. Works for me, hope it works for you if you try it.

I decided to try and take a clone even though I wasn’t prepared. I scraped up some loose top soil and placed it in a seedling starter tray. Planted the clone directly into the soil. As of today (1/20/23) she seems to be doing okay. Hard to see in the pic with my makeshift humidity dome.

After 43 days of vegetative growth since we started from clone, it is officially Day 1 of flower. Yesterday I too dressed with 15Tbsp of bloom, 3Tbsp all purpose, 5 handfuls of earthworm castings, and 5 handfuls of mushroom compost. I watered with 2 gallons of my usual mix, natural PH was 6.6. Humidity in the tent is ranging from 40%-55% naturally, and the light has been turned up to 225w from the wall. Since the last update I also installed the trellis nets and continued training. I seems to have also nipped the fungus gnat issue in the butt early on, but the sticky straps will stay for safe measure.

Okay, yes, I suck at keeping my journals updated. Here we are 26 days into flower. She is flowering nicely and I’m very happy with the trio me development this early on. She’s frosting up real nice! We are now pulling 325w from the wall on this SpiderFarmer SF4000. Since the last update she has been getting 2 gallons of water every 3-4 days. In flower I have removed liquid seaweed from my watering mix, and now water with Bushdoctor Cal-Mag at 5-7ml per gal and 1/4 tsp of great white per gal. My mix has been naturally PHing at 6.6 so I have not had to make any PH adjustments this grow yet. She will get her final feeding this Wednesday.

Day 37 of flower. Light has been bumped up to 405w from the wall (75% on the dial) and I will not be turning it up anymore. I added an additional fan for passive airflow over the light. The light is barely warm with the fan blowing on it. Checked the trickles for the first time, about 70% cloudy and 30% clear. No amber yet. Going to try and get a usb microscope for pics to post.

Day 45 of flower:

She’s fading out nicely, good colors coming in. Not sure if this is a clone thing since this is my first run of a clone, but she flowered quick. From my jewelers loupe it looks like we have 5% to maybe 10% amber, but I still see some clear. USB scope comes in tomorrow. Looking like a 50-55 day finish. Also noticed some signs of light stress at 400w, so I dropped the light back down to 350w. Still plenty of power for this 3x3.
