Hope all Italian farmers, families and crops are all safe and sound.

An earthquake with a magnitude of 6.3 has struck central Italy.

According to the US Geological Survey, the earthquake struck at 0132 GMT about 95km (60 miles) north-east of the capital, Rome, at a depth of 10km.

There were no immediate reports of casualties, but Italian media reports suggested some buildings had collapsed in the city of L'Aquila.

The earthquake was also felt in Rome; the BBC correspondent there said he was woken up by the shaking.

Two smaller earthquakes struck the same region of Italy on Sunday but caused no damage.

Powerful earthquakes are relatively rare in Italy.
