Question about a diy grow box

My tent is in a shed, so although it’s an “indoor” grow, it’s really kinda an outdoor grow lol. It’s a 2x2x4 tent, and with the crazy Maryland weather I need to do something about climate control. It’s just not financially possible to insulate the whole shed, so I thought about creating an insulated grow box. It would be my 2x2x4 grow tent inside this 2x6x4 grow box.
Thing is, I’m not sure about airflow and ventilation. I’m making this grow box, which I guess I want to be as air tight as possible, but doesn’t that mean I don’t have any fresh air coming into the tent? If I built the grow box 2x6x4, is that big enough that I don’t really need to make a hole for fresh (cold) air?
I’m sorry I’m not sure this is worded in a way that makes sense, but I’m doing my best. Thanks for your help

Might be better to invest the money on climate control in your tent instead of wasting that space. I don't think the dead space between the outside of the grow box and the grow chamber, itself, will provide enough of a heat buffer and plants need air exchange. Have you considered running ducts and an inline fan in your tent? You should be able to bring fresh from outside and exhaust out the other side. Still not ideal as you would be drawing in hot air from outside but you would get some air exchange. Probably a better set up for a winter grow tbh.

You could also simply remove the tent and use that space to grow and hang your light from the ceiling. It seems to me that the tent would merely be adding more heat to the equation. Does the shed have windows?

Thank you for replying! I don’t really know how to use this site so please bear with me
“Might be better to invest the money on climate control in your tent instead of wasting that space”
I should’ve mentioned this in my first post, but I just bought an AC infinity Thermoforge. It hasn’t arrived yet so I don’t know how well it’ll work. Yes, the shed does have a window and I plan to eventually install a portable ac unit. With that in mind, I was hoping the grow box would allow me some insulation so that heater/ac unit would work better. I can’t imagine that the heater would be able to keep it warm enough without insulating.

“Have you considered running ducts and an inline fan to your tent?”
I do have an exhaust fan (is that the same as an inline fan?). Right now it’s sitting outside the tent and is pulling air out of the tent, rather than pulling fresh air in. I did that just to save space.

“You should be able to bring fresh air in from the outside and exhaust out the other side”
So we’re talking two fans, right? One to pull air in from the outside and one to exhaust? Right now my intake is just passive. And yea that’s what I’m worried about; pulling in air from the surrounding environment would be either too hot or too cold.

“You could also simply remove the tent and use that space to grow and hang your light from the ceiling. It seems to me that the tent would merely be bringing more heat into the equation. Does the shed have a window?”
The shed does have a window, yes. Why would the tent being there add more heat - just because the space is enclosed? Also, the ultimate goal is to be able to grow year round, so I’d have to contend with cold in the winter and heat in the summer. And yea, I had thought about taking the tent out, but I don’t know how to insulate against temperatures and get air exchange. Any air coming in would be either too hot or too cold.
Edit: I guess an ac unit pulling air from outside would solve the fresh air intake problem, but what about heat during the winter? The Thermoforge I bought has a hose on it. I guess in theory if I have the unit outside the grow space but the hose inside, that’s fresh air isn’t it?

Thanks again for your thoughtful reply. I’ve only got two grows under my belt but I really enjoy it and want to do it right

Thanks for that. The a/c unit could potentially be ducted into your tent at the bottom and exhaust out the top. If you can control temp/humidity then the tent or grow box could provide added pest protection.

As far as the grow box, you could circulate the cold air around the dead space ro keep temps down and have the inner chamber vented to allow so air in and exhaust the chamber (not the dead space) outside. Combine cold air "insulation" and fresh air exchange. It could be a really good set up.

What if I took Velcro and stuck foam board insulation on each part of the grow tent? I would cut out holes to match the tent - 3 ports on top and 2 vents at the bottom. It would definitely not be perfect, but do you think that insulation would make a noticeable difference in maintaining a good temperature?

I imagine it would hinder heat dissipation from inside.
