Hello fellow growers!

Currently me and my wife are in a townhouse but (fingers crossed) we will be approved for a house soon. I currently have a small grow box that I love, but I would like to upgrade a little. Just a few questions….I am use to DWC so I am looking for some information on how to set one up in a grow tent. My grow box had all the equipment included. I’ve been looking at 5x5 tents (should I get a bigger one?). I have an entire room to grow. I’ve been researching myself but there’s always someone smarter than you so any links or information would be greatly appreciated!

You can run any system in any space. I think the first decision to make is tent size. You might use the yields you've gotten with your grow box and compare that with how much you want to harvest, how often, to get an idea of how much space you need. In terms of DWC setup, there are lots of vendors who will sell you a complete system, or let you piece one together. Depends where you are in the world. You might check out the PA Hydroponics channel on YouTube. Good information and his customer service was excellent when I bought from him.

I'm not the smartest guy but I have spent a bit reading on this subject and I am in the process of filling out a 5x5 with a hydroponic build. It's been an expensive project for me so I've been going one step at a time for close to a year at this point. I purchased A 4, 13 gallon bucket DIY RDWC fall o ponic system from pa hydroponics. They have build videos on YouTube for their system but the same principle applies to all rdwc builds.

I personally have chosen a recirculating system over a DWC for environmental reasons. Being in a desert it's important I be able to keep my water circulating and cooled.

Tent vs a grow room is something I'm sort of stuck on now. I guess a bunch of it comes down to environmental parameters and how easily you would be able to keep them. Humidity control and temperature control and light proof. I'm not sure I needed the tent at this point because it's taking up the entire room more or less. I keep it open to prevent over heating because I need a removable driver cord for my light.

Thanks for your quick reply!

I am in the southern part of the USA (FLA) This is why I posted here lol. These are questions I didn’t think about…my grow box would yield about 100g. I definitely would like more. At least 1-2 lbs. What size tent would you recommend? I was thinking about 2-4 5 gallon buckets. My grow boxes had smaller dwc pots due to the limited space.

I just looked up dwc a holy sh*t they do have complete setups lol. My next question would be how hard is it to setup lights? I was looking into the spider farm products. Money is not really a problem I just want to make sure I have everything I need and setup correctly. I have a few things like a carbon filter and fans in a cart already but I want to make sure I have the right size for the right tent..so I have to choose a tent first lol.

I think a 2x4 would hold 2 photos in 5 gallon buckets. Check out the pa hydroponics channel. They have a few good examples of hydro builds that you can stuff in a small closet. But yeah your tent will determine your set up needs.

Thank you!

What is the difference between recirculating dwc and regular dwc? I just started looking up products and it looks like it’s going to be an expensive to built it exactly how I want.

An additional reservoir that holds water and a recirculating pump moves the water between all the buckets

You should be able to pull a pound per run easily in a 4x4 running hydro. If a run uses the tent for 18 weeks, that's almost 3 pounds per year. I do that in my 4x4s running soil or coco. The one thing I don't like about big tents is that they can be a pain in the ass to get around in once you have big plants, and especially if you scrog with a trellis. And if you're old and creaky.

Lots of options available for lights. With hydro, I'd be looking for at least 40 watts of LED per square foot of footprint, in a fixture that's approximately the same shape as the space. I like continuous dimmers and detachable drivers.

Ha! I had to get the ok the wifey first. But she agrees that I actually know what I’m doing and need more space.

I don't have to get permission or have a discussion about such stuff with the wife. She got out in the sun today. Been fighting some bad health issues and she wanted to look over one of my motorcycles. She like looking at this one and touching it. But wants nothing to do with being on the back. May take her for a ride on the Goldwing and dinner this evening if she is still feeling good later.
