Raising female chances

A Russian study showed that seedlings with at least 4" of soil to grow the tap root were more likely to go female. The source I am quoting says "This may be why some farmers get female/male ratios as great as 80%/20%."

dont have any scientific evidence - but when i do seeds i use banana peals on top of my soil and leave um until they start turning black - it releases ethylene which is said to hlp give u females - conclusion: 15 seeds - 1 male

note: once the preflowers have shown up stop using the ethylene

i also give them a cpl inches of soil and then bury the stems up to the first leaves - :anim_19:

I've read the 4" thing a while ago,don't remember where. But I've been doing it for years.Haven't compared a smaller cup to the 6" cups I use,just do it out of habit.

I've heard the ethylene thing too. Haven't tried it. The way I hear to use it was to put the seeds in a container with the ripe banana peels. As the peels degrade they release ethylene. The seeds soak in the gas causing female plants....mitsu

use a MH for veg and wait till the preflowers show. then switch to a HPS.
this will give you a few more females. or so iv'e been told.
