Rapid rooters

Hi, was wondering if rapid rooters will work for dwc bucket or do I need to break the roots free before putting them into net pots with hydroton for dwc ? Or can I just pop the rapid rooters in like that and put in the hydroton.

When I did dwc, I ran rooters and rockwool all the time in hydroton pellets.
The cubes sit high up in the pellets so that may be why they never caused any problems for me. Breaking roots free would be far more traumatic for the plant IMO.
