Howzit All,

Growing in 2 gal pots with soil. I can't use the city water where I am now, so which is best? I heard if you use distilled water, you have to add some mineral of some kind. Any thoughts?

If you use RO/rain/distilled water most times you need to add Calcium and Magnesium. Search for calmag and you'll find the answers.

Thanks Bro,

I found it at my local hydro shop made by Botanicare.

I had a lot of wierd things happen on my first grow back here in Cali. I think it was bad water and too many ferts.

When you add your liquid ferts to the water,do you use a EC/PH meter at all?

One of these days I'm going to give hydro a try. Why do you prefer coco to soil, if I might ask?

I've never really grown canna in soil - I started in hydro (in June!) and had a nightmare with it, moved to coco and have never looked back.

I don't like soil because no matter how great your soil or soil mix is, it doesn't drain like coco does - so you can overwater. Coco can be watered multiple times a day if you want and not worry about it because coco retains only what it can, leaving air for the roots to breathe. Also, coco is inert....it's like using clay pebbles or cellmax....it's essentially a hydroponic medium that looks and acts a lot like soil, only better.

Roots LOVE coco....more roots = more bud. The only people I know who grow soil do so because they prefer the taste and/or grow organically. If this is you, soil is the one for organic goodness. If not, I can't see the benefit of soil over coco....or rather, any taste improvements aren't worth it compared to the myriad of other benefits. And my weed tastes awesome, and it's not organic....just make sure you flush well....

Use RO.. distilled water has no ph value and thus takes the value of the medium it touches which can cause many problems if the medium isn't stable

As the above posters have said, RO water will have almost zero minerals so you will need to supplement with calmag.
