Root Rot or pH Flux?

End week 3 into veg (which includes a 2 week preveg if u can call it that) minimal water (10sec) intervals which was happening maybe once to twice a day, until end week 2 i gave them 3 days no feed (advice for maybe being too young)

Some days into week 3 i notice this. pH is buffered with FloraMax A+B and Tarantula (Advanced nutes) to 7.. the run off was 8.2

My question is could this be pH flux or is this signs of Root Rot at such an early age? (4 weeks from seed in clone box + 3 weeks in room) my aim was for a 6 to 8 week veg and 8 week grow using 4x600watts HPS the entjre cycle.

I will be pHing the water to 5.7-8 tomorrow in an attempt to see changes. I havent fed the last 2 days to dry out coco-mix with an antipest solution on top for fungus gnats prevention issues (in case of early root rot) wondering what you might think going by the fotos.

Im in a seahawk 3m x 1.46m x 2m
Coco medium with perlite and clay ball mix, double 50Lt pots with smart bags, running 1 standing fan, 1 overkill exhaust fan with no air in (just those spaces open for fresh air suction from the extractor)

50litre res, FloraMax nutrients A+B (one lot of a one lot of b for both veg and bloom which contain new ph technology and is compatible with the Advanced Nutrients range which we can no longer get down under) Tarantula was being run when this problem arose but it no longer requires it going by chart so now the res is running A+B but i havent given it a water for the second day now until i get pH down and test tomorrow

4x 600watt HPS
2x Big Bud Fems (pheno)

Absolutely impossible to over water that.... that mix would need watered multiple times a day.

I see the perlite on top how is the coco? Is it mixed with hydroton or on the bottom?

Tap water ppm and PH down you are using?

So the white stuff u see on top is a layer of protection/prevention for Fungas Gnats that sits on top of the grow medium.

My grow medium is a Cyco Coco perlite blend which contains clay balls (hydroton) i also put hydroton in the bottom pot (outter pot) and at the bottom of the smart bag i used some to give proper drainage.

I have pH down and im literally about to go adjust pH now do feed cycle and test the run off of the pH.

I do not have a device to test Ppm and never bothered with it.

Im not understanding how pH flux works or is it that my range is locking nutes out?

Here ya go... and the hydroton on the bottom is not a good idea. Read these 2 links.

Great reading material.

The problem is, my local hydro shop was just raided and shut down as apart of the global "Trojan shield" operation. Those guys were great but without them im in the dark. Just reading through the pH article you say ppm is important whereas the guys at the shop didnt want me to bother so much with it. I dont trust another shop so ive had to come to the community. I appreciate ur help/prompt reply.

I knew much about the first article (mediums) i did get some useful extras - overall i think the Cyco Coco-Perlite blend was best, my previous grows were Hydroton only and my yields were shocking so i spent some serious money and upgraded nutrients, feeders, pumps, tank and all new lines.

I have big expectations i was worried about root rot fora few days but i believe it was ph flux i guess time will tell.

Should i return to normal feeding times?

Starting ph 7.1

Added 45 drops pH down.

Finishing pH 5.9

My new tank is inside the room, has a cover for locking but the lines coming out prevent that and may expose the res' water to some light. How negative is this effect?

I hate pHing man its such a head case!

My run off is still 8.2?

I might get it to run straight into cup, there could be old nute build up in the catchers. Ill test from a cleaner source and go again 🤦

It may be the De-Gnat agent thats making the pH change.

I placed some in a cup of water and tested from 7 she went to 7.9 so it has some effect. Is it safe with these kinds of fluctuations to keep my res at pH of 5?

Keep ph 5.6-5 8 and increase feed frequency this will help stabilize the ph.

I was adding tarantula for 2 weeks, this is for the roots i think đź‘Ś

Ill continue with normal feeds from now - hopefully we see improvement, will keep the post updated every few days till we get a conclusion đź’Şđź‘Ś

Thanks for ur ongoing advice AquaMan đź’Ş

That's air flow partially.... see the damaged leaves are touching the container?

They can't breathe like that so you want to remove them.

What the ppm?

Chart advised 170ml for my 50L

I put 150ml in my 50L

I have 1 fan and the exhaust with negative pressure and the tent doors open should i be directing the fan onto them?

I dont measure ppm lad just pH which runoff is now at 7. Still high.

I remember prior to transplanting in my 50L i didnt flush the coco 🤦
