I supplement my outdoor plants with light to prevent premature flowering. I have usually reduce supplemental light to coincide with the summer equinox. My problem is Sacramento heat is extremely high during flowering. Should I delay reducing supplemental light so that the weather will be cooler during flowering? Thank You!

All the ways people are growing, finally someone who grows like me!

So if you have good a sense of when the last safe day is before it will be too hot, find out how many weeks your plant strain takes to finish and subtract that number of weeks from that date to determine when to reduce your light. If that puts you close to the Solstice, you can always force artificial night on them just like you're giving them artificial light.

Also to manage the super hot days, shade cloth makes a big difference. Give them that early morning sun and then shade them when temps go up. If I remember right, Sactown gets hotter later in the day and without an afternoon cool down so you probably want as much of that morning light you can get.

That’s such a killer idea. I love it.

If you can, that sounds like a solid deal there. I’m outside of Bakersfield and flowering in the high heat sucks.

What are you guys growing? Autos? Photos shouldn’t start flowering before mid to late August! Early September is better! It’s not that hot then! IMO.

Sometimes you have to manipulate the natural cycle to finish in time to beat unfavorable weather. September isn't better everywhere. Places like Sacramento and Bakersfield it's much worse. Same for me in Ventura County.

Couple of years ago I had a plant going from some bag seed. Beautiful plant. Then came 110 in week 7 and all the flowers opened wide up. Almost 12 ounces of airy a** ganja. I’ll remember this trick this year 😈

I’ve been here for almost 5 years now and our heat doesn’t really die until the end of October. It’s normal for 75-85 on Thanksgiving.

Well, have at it! I think it was more than 110 when I transplanted into my final pots! In Late June! Good luck, fellas!

110 in June sounds right for last year. Last summer was walking on the sun for months 🔥

That’s not hot! 90s are not hot! Even low 100s aren’t bad! It’s hotter here than Bakersfield, or Sacramento! It can be dealt with! The heat is not an issue! But the humidity Can be in some areas! Like over by the Coast, possibly!

I hear you! If I was growing east of the Rockies, I would be growing indoors! Ha ha
If the thunder don’t get ya the lightning will back there. Out of all the problems we face out here at least septoria isn't routinely one!

Thank you. That is what I was thinking. The last 2 years when I harvest we still have 100 degree days. I think I will postpone it for at least a month
