I was looking at some seed sites the other day and noticed how many seed companies there are.I would have to say at least 70.And i just wonder how many of them sell good stuff? How many of them sell the same exact seeds/seed lines but call it somethin different? And not to mention the prices of seeds now, just crazy especially for what your getting half the time.Don't get wrong if it is great gear then money doesn't matter. So here's my question. What seed companies are really truely breeding seeds as opposed to just taking an already pretty good/great strain and just pollen chuckin it?It sure seems like as soon as the next "hottest strain" or clone comes along u see seeds for sale 2 WEEKS later by 5 companies. And were all guilty in some way, either by buying the seeds or the peeps who r actually the ones just knockin the gear.people who have spent years upon years breeding get their gear sold by 10 other companies and for even more money. And all they did was dust it with no true selection other then just picking it seems like and then selling them.As of now there is no law stating u cant rip another man or crew's work.I quess the point is, where is the love? Cause it seems like everyone is ripping someone elses gear and the market is getting pretty watered down with alot of mediocre strains.just my 2 cents, that i took from some1 else.peace.....So speak up and say who you think is a great breeder and what makes them so great of a breeder.

i know what you mean, i would think it takes a couple of years at least to develope a stable hybrid, theres a lot of bandwagon jumping motivated by money, the biggest piss take is some of the nutrient companies, the profit margins on their stuff is obscene, the guys growing tomatoes commercially round here would laugh their tits off if they saw the price of nutes. as far as strains are concerned i think its a bit like restaraunts, i avoid the ones with hundreds of dishes on the menu, they cant all be fresh stuff, i like companies with just a few strains, strains that they have perfected over several years and are confident about. and for value for money, i think if you buy a load of F3's and just look for a good female pheno, and clone of her, i know guys who have mothers that are clones of clones of clones that are now more than 10yrs old. they know their strains
because they have spent years on the same strain using numerous different grow methods, nutes etc. yes itds shitty if their work is ripped off. i only buy seeds if i have a problem with what ive got, which is maybe once every 5 years,
seed companies??? Mandala, Mr Nice, and despite all the slagging Nirvana,
the answer is find a good pheno and clone it.

think about it, why the fuck are there all these stupid names, wtf??? its all about the commercialisation of the weed world, you need brands and trade, marks, hasnt some wanker recently tried to patent a name or something?FFS! and now the man has decided to get involved, "dispenseries" for clones, what next. TV advertising ??? TV Shows, "youve been framed",
imagine if AN went bust, how would we cope?, get a grip, remember the emperors new clothes when you were kids, theres a reason and message in all them fairytales.

Along with the "Pollen Chuckers" :D lol... (I love that name, should be a name for a seed company) ... already over saturating the market with questionable product and NAMES (...Science, I hate arbitrarily made up weed strain names...) the collectives and dispensaries take it 3 steps further and just make up shiz as they go...look at some of the ads in the "trade" papers... Kardashian OG? Really? I was a bud tender for a bit and saw it first hand, pulling names out of their ugly asses and charging $5 more because of it...
As if that wasn't enough, the early seed Company's member's split up over the years, accusing each other of "stealing" and "renaming" genetics that only they "ORIGINALLY" created... I mean, all the energy put out by hate mails against Greenhouse Seeds alone could run a 1000K set-up... :D And every successful company experiences the same scrutiny on the web...Cali Connection or Mota better beware of selling too many seeds...lest they'll be accused of inferior product, too...comes with the territory.

I'm still weirded out by $300+ seed sales on the bay where growers still have to select PHENOS In my (possibly very unpopular) view, a named strain should be stable and don't have phenos.

Don't worry, 100-200 years from now this will be a regulated industry with certified lineages...

I think the seed Biz has just gone 'Wacky' the last couple years especially, and the Prices have gone Nuts.Strains you could get for 45 bucks a few years ago are now 150-200 a pop..are you fucking kiddn Me !!Then there's the whole Fem. seed aspect..which makes me sick! Charging an extra 100 dollars, and for what?? Do some real Breeding and make some real seeds.I will not be part of the Fem seed movement Period.I'm buying up all the Regular seed stock of The Important strains that I can find..I'll do my own seed Projects and save those genetics. It's really sad when strains are Lost because they are not ''Popular'' anymore..somebody put alot of work into those seedlines! I tend to gravitate toward breeders with 'Smaller' Lines that have stood the test of time..Mr Nice,Serious,Doc Atomic,Peak seeds,Spice of Life.Right now I'm running SOL and Doc Atomic..and next up will be Joey weed.I think some of the best Lines ever were from Spice of life..I absolutely covet my SOL genetics. There is a reason why..every strain just Kicked ass..there were multiple winners in every pack..I cant say enough good about those genetics..Still running em after 6yrs, and Dying to get Blockhead again..!!!! A local Dispensarie is selling cuts with Names they Literally just made up..They have No-Clue what their selling. It's pretty sad..I think people appreciate when you tell them what their getting and they know it's the Real McCoy..not some stupid name they pulled outta a Hat!

I second this. I asked a bud tender what it meant when it was called "Platinum Whatever the F**k,PK,OG STD. His response was to emphasize the quality of this particular run. I guess it does make SOME sense but it shouldn't be named something else. The plant will speak for itself. I was disappointed because I said oh okay what is this strain composed of? I was then told that it was a cross of SSH and sour D. But wait this is a "Platinum Kush"?? Haze? Then it hit me. I was just in this place a week ago and told him I picked up some SSSDH from the Farm. It seemed if the hat was right there and what got pulled out was something I told him to begin with lol. I don't know if I explained it right but it was funny.

I think that dispensaries pulling this kind of name pulling outta hats shit should be shut down. It is practice like this that gives us and the plant a bad name. Instead of watering down the gene pool they just shit in it lmao. I think of it like this. Philadelphia Cream Cheese isn't even from Pennsylvania? How are you allowed to do this? Like the drama over Soma's beans getting F2ed or just renamed under the premise that the beans were from a new seed co claiming NorCal origins. Opps did I for get to tell you that we're not from NorCal oh and these beans are actually Soma's blood and tears relabled as a plant that NorCal growers don't really grow? Whatev...:mysterymachine:

I don't even think that 85% of the dispensaries bud tenders know where "kush" originates, but aparantly the Kardashians have one now? WTF?? That is beat. I mean the menu has kush written on it like 20 times. I'm like who does all of these crosses lol.

Then there are dispensaries that rock and do it proper. I like them better. :fixed:

As for seed companies go I have and liked DNA Genetics, & Chimera. I have had great experiences with small time breeders though and would rather go grassroots like the Farm. I like to help the hand that feeds me.

I totally agree with you bro...what ever happened to popping a pack of seeds and only finding a pheno or two..with a lot of these new guys it seems every seed you pop will be a diff pheno?!?!?

i kinda think it is crazy that any seed company puts out any seeds that they have not at least grown out one time to see what they are. But then again, they could just keep everyone in the dark and make them wait 6 months until they get their genetics... either way it is a grass is greener thing... (yes pun intended, most over used pun on internet mj forums)

I have to agree with all posts above. As we are all saying the same thing. However, if one purchases a pack of seed there should be a great deal more info on what this plant is going to do. What i mean is the structure, vigor, what it is going to do outside or under hps, etc. Not every cross created will give you homogeneous offspring, and that to me is ok. However, finding a "pheno" should NOT cost us $250 or more! That is robbery. We should be paying more for stability, but it seems to be backwards. Even within landrace populations one will find a great varied number of phenotypes, that is worth paying for. Just don't understand how some random person feels justified charging $150 for ten seeds of some random no name cross that nobody has even tested yet, and that nobody seems to be growing. Example, "Porno seeds" I mean wtf? Much respect for those like Mandala Mr. Nice, The Real seeds Co, Ace and others that consistently prove themselves with quality. Thank you breeds. Just my 2 cents.

Anybody got a good line on landrace varieties?

Peace

i think back in the day when everyone grew from seeds a line being stable was alot more important then it is today. now you just find the plant you like mom it up and run from there. we are not out there planting hundreds of seeds anymore, as a matter of fact very few people buying seeds today only run from straight seed.

Its supply and demand. As more people buy and grow seeds, its harder for just a few seed company's to keep up with the demand. Its givin lots of opportunity to start up seed company's just trying to make a buck and others that yall blow loads over and pay retarted amounts of cash for regardless of wether its been tested or shit if the cross has ever even been grown, yall dont care shit its so n so's buy that shit its FIRE yo, FIRE. And i dont see a single problem with that at all, free market, makesa the worlda go arounda. And we wouldnt have alot of the killer strains around right now without that. Thats how it will always be, no stopping it at this point. At least till its legalized and there is only 10 seed companys all owned by one mother corp. And honestly i dont think how many strains a breeder has really delineates any difference. Serious seeds is a perfect example. A very limited list of strains, but people have all but written serious off as shitty watered down crap, hell you can find that exact statement on these boards with very little searching. Everyone is looking for that pre95 pre98 pre01 pre-wtf ever, original og stylee bullshit, you know before it started to suck. And the dude has ONLY WORKED with like a handful of shit. He didnt even release his skunk line cause it didnt make his cut. But still people have pretty much concluded his stuff is old crap. Maybe we all just have to high a standards and alot of those company's have good shit, who knows.

DWBOY is 100% correct and we have all fallen for the great hype machine and there strains and yes truly one of the best and truest to his breeding process is SIMON from SERIOUS SEEDS with the skunk dwb is talking about it was a strain that they have been working with for 5-6years and it wont be released until it makes his and the other breeders who work theres cut he really puts his soul into his gear and you really never hear complaints about there gear either
