Shady’s Natural Selection… Round 4: More Strains & Growing Pains

:hi: Greetings fellow farmers!!! This 4th grow journal may become a perpetual one... For now anyways, I'm constantly learning about different strains and growing techniques. Hopefully in the very near future I'll expand my setup by adding a 1K HPS and a 4x8 tent to hold it and my 600W setup... :thinking

Here's my current nutrient lineup... Subject to change:

Hydro
GH's Flora (Grow, Micro, & Bloom), CalMag, HammerHead, MOAB, Flora Blend, Bud Candy, Great White

Soil
Botanicare's Pure Blend Pro Grow and Bloom, CalMag, HammerHead, Bud Candy, Great White

* I've got a lot of other nutrients to play with like Fox Farms dry solubles and their liquid line. I also may omit Liquid Karma as I'm not sure how much benefit I'm seeing with this product.

First up is the Raskal’s OG where only 3 of 4 popped (I had to do some shady cuts on the 2nd night to get these babies to pop, but had 100% germination rates on the remaining strains)… Props to Swerve and OG Raskal on these killer genetics!

The following amounts are as follows in ml/gal and based upon a 5 gal res (filled w/7 gal of R/O):
Mega Garden - CM:3/Grow:2/Micro:4/Bloom:6/Zone:1 tbsp total = 512 PPM, 5.9 pH

• I’ve never used this mix before, but I’m experimenting with some different ratios based on some deficiencies I noticed during Round 3 in veg.

I spy some of my favorite things in these pix.
I loved using Botanicare in soil for it's ease of use and good results. I'm not sold on the karma either it seemed lacking in some way. I'm back on the GH 3-part train now.
I wouldn't mind trying to do a run with PBP again if I can figure out a good substitution for the karma. I would like to do a side by side with PBP and the new General Organics line up. Tweaked in my own style of course.

Hey gtd!!! Damn, I'd be in heaven with another light and a couple tents right now... I'm very passionate about this... from the science and biology, to the greens... :evilgrin

Ahh yeah... I def communicate with Tappy and Capt'Sneak!!! Tap bred (open pollination to preserve the genetics and create some crazy crosses) and sent me the following beans:

• Tap Water Mix
• J/C x BB
• Blue Buddha
• J/C x Dire #1
• [SSH/SDV3 x Dire] x [SDV3/JO x BB]
• SSH/SDV3 x Dire

As for Joe Shmoe's beans... The Chem's Sis/D Bx1 is what was written on the packs and DUD Bx1 as well... I'm guessing that means the Chem's Sis was backcrossed once against the Chemdog D another pheno so it's Bx1? Then there's the Moe Mist (only got 2 of these MM left)... All 3 are bred by Joe. I had popped 4 Sis and 4 Dud's in my 3rd journal... All 8 were female and I labeled numbers after the names to identify the phenotypes. This round I'm def keeping Chem's Sis pheno's #3 & 4, as well as DUD #3... I'm still curing the rest and will decide which if any of the remaining clones I will keep from those original beans.

I'll quote my fav 2 so far, and if you follow the quote you'll see the remaining phenos that were harvested recently...

Right on brah!!! I'm def not sold on the Liquid Karma... Seems like the plants haven't realized that I've been reducing the strength... The bottle is almost empty and I don't think I'm gonna replace it. I kind of feel like I need to see results before I spend any more money ... Maybe Roots Excelurator or Hygrozyme... :evilgrin Shit, I'm gonna save some ends to get another light and tent first...

I was thinkin, maybe replace the karma with a compost tea and some seaweed and kelp. I already use hygrozyme, humboldt's roots, and great white.
I'll get back to you on this cause the karma definitely increases resins and quality of the buds. I have done it with and without. I just think I can do better. The base nutes rock in dirt though!

Thx CAPO... I was planning on injecting Great White tomorrow into all of the soil plants for a 2nd time (I used it about 2 weeks ago). I also have Flora Blend and Aqua Shield... both are Liquid Composts... :thinking. I welcome any suggestions as I'm always learning... :)

Sup bud! Yeah man... I still can't believe this is my 4th Grow and I started on 2/28/09 with Round 1 in Hydro... Well, I can say for sure that I like the Smart Pots so far. We'll see how they perform with soil by harvest time, but my heart is in hydro and I'm looking forward to my next round already.

Hmmm, well I'm still a rookie IMO, but from the shots I notice that the 1st plant has broad Indica leaves... even at the top of the cola (reminds me of my Bubba, but the shape resembles more of a christmas tree... the top looks similar to one of Justiceman's current round). The 2nd plant has broad leaves, but those tend to become more narrow at the top... I've noticed this in the SFV OG that I have... :itwasntme
