sick plants??

my friend has recently chopped his crop of big budda haze and 1 of the plants had a real deformety it grew to about 5 ft and all it had on it was like little popcorn buds all over the plant the plant was really crazy down the bottom all little shoots growing in every way with little buds on them. can anybody tell me what has caused this its a real mad one sorry no photos thou!!

could this be caused by my irregular 12/12 i.e putting the light on at 10 in the morning for 12/12 then 12 oclock 12/12??
