Have been using this and now it is also on the google play store...:)
Totally free Works on Iphones and Droids uses same protocols as Silent Phone Silent Text but 100% free !!!
Is it secure? Can I trust it?
Signal uses Curve25519, AES-256, and HMAC-SHA256. The security of these algorithms has been tested over many years of use in hundreds of different applications. Messages sent via Signal are end-to-end encrypted, which means that they can only be read by your intended recipients. We make it easy for you to verify that you are communicating with the right people and that no MITM attack has occurred. The keys that are used to encrypt your messages are stored on your device alone, and they are protected by an additional layer of encryption if you have a passphrase enabled.

Open WhisperSystems does not have access to the contents of any messages sent by Signal users. Additionally, the complete source code for the Signal clients and the Signal server is available on GitHub. This enables interested parties to examine the code and help us verify that everything is behaving as expected. It also allows advanced users to compile their own copies of the applications and compare them with the versions we distribute.

The Axolotl ratchet in Signal is the most advanced cryptographic ratchet available. Axolotl ensures that new AES keys are used for every single message, and it provides Signal with both forward secrecy and future secrecy properties. The Signal protocol also features enhanced deniability properties that improve on those provided by OTR, except unlike OTR all of these features work well in an asynchronous mobile environment.

We believe that V2 of the Signal protocol represents the current state of the art in secure messagin

Does it protect my text messages from snooping?
Yes, Signal keeps your messages safe in two ways:

  1. It protects your messages using end-to-end encryption when you are communicating with other Signal users. You can read more about Signals' security here.
  2. It protects your messages on your phone using local encryption if you have a passphrase enabled. This keeps them away from prying eyes if your phone is lost or stolen.

Who can I call?
ALL MESSAGES AND CALLS TO SIGNAL USERS DEFAULT TO THE SECURE MODE
If you want to message or call through in-secure means, you will need to put the extra effort to switch modes.

A Signal for Android user can call other Signal users (iOS or Android).

Make sure you have uninstalled RedPhone. If you tried to re-register with RedPhone or place calls through RedPhone, then you may need to re-register with Signal (look at option 3B below).

You will know if your contact is a Signal user by looking at your conversation with him/her:

  1. A phone icon with a lock indicates he/she is using Signal.

  2. A phone icon (without the lock) indicates he/she is not a user or you need to refresh your contact list.
