hello guys:

I am using 2 x 1200W HPS (240V) and I know its getting outdated...
I am trying to get some LEDs fixture but want to limited the amperage to certain amount.

lets say i want to limit my usage to 30amp at 110v (from the street), how many amps do i have left if i am using 2 HPS above?
Does the calculation work like this?

30amp - 1200W/240V x 240V/110V x 2
=30 - 5 x ~2.18 x 2
=30 - 21.82
=8.18 amp?

Does the calculation go this way or am I missing something? thank you.

First, the standard qualifier: I'm no expert, but watts/volts = amps.

But anyway, what you are using now, 2400W on a 240V circuit means you are using 10 amps. (The 110v is meaningless here. If you have 240V you have 240V.)

If you're replacing 1200W of HPS with roughly equivalent LEDs, you are lowering your wattage and therefore lowering the amperage. Let's say they draw 750W:

750 x 2 = 1500W
1500W/240V = 6.25 amps.

So if your limit is 30 amps, you're way under and were way under with HPS, too.

You could have just done it this way.
30amp-(2400w/110v) = 8.18amp
