Hello all and thanks for stopping by.

This is my 2nd grow and my first in soil. My 1st was rdwc https://www.thcfarmer.com/threads/swole’s-first-grow.109414/ because in the beginning when researching I was amazed by the accelerated growth rate that came with it over soil, but I’d heard and read that the quality of soil grows were much greater than those in hydro. So, I set out to find out for myself growing first in hydro and next in organic supersoil.

Midway through my 1st grow I built a second veg/fbloom room and ordered a variety of fem seeds. Wild Thai Landrace Strain that’s 100% sativa, Jack Herer, Gorilla Cookies and got a few freebies of Jack Herer and Blueberry. I planted these in solos on 3-18-20 as my 1st was entering bloom and trained them by bending, tying down and topping to achieve an even canopy. Along the way I lost the blueberry due to it herming and bag seeds are still so tempting, so I popped a zookies that ended up being female and is currently in the bloom room with the others.

6-21-20
Bloom room is finally inactive from harvest and drying and these ladies are ready to be transplanted into their final pots.

to a healthy outdoor plant flourishing

Somewhere along the way she changed on me and decided she wanted to be a male, so I had to take her down.

I’ve been through this before. My 1st grow all 4 plants herm’d and because I had nothing else growing behind it I saw it through to the end. Not this time!

Room reset complete and scrog being put in place.

This is also the time that I realized the I grew too much plant to fit all of them under the scrog, so maybe next time.

Moved to bloom room 1
1 zookies (bag seed)
1 wild Thai (World of seeds)
1 Jack Herer (Seedsman)
3 gorilla cookies (expert seeds)
3 Jack Herer (Sensi Seeds)
I started them in solos and potted up to 1gal, 5gal and 10gal final pot.

After contemplating for a few days I finally decided to upgrade my lighting. I’ll remove the 600 my/hps and replace with 2 more of the Sunsystem 315 lec boss fixtures. I love these lights and the plants to also.

These are 2 more of the wild Thai that I started that have been growing outdoors. About a month ago they were transported about an hour away within walking distance from where they’ll bloom in the forest in 20gal pots.

Thanks bro, I’m eager to see what she does also. I chose this strain because 1 I wanted to experience a pure sativa and 2 the name took me back to when I grew up and Chocolate Thai was this fire bud that I heard tales about but never got the chance to try. I’d read that they stretch a lot and thought it’d be perfect for an outdoor grow. So far so good.

Thank you sir. I give all the credit to the soil. I mixed 120gal of subcool supersoil back in February and it cooked while my 1st grow was in progress up until April 27th when these plants were mature enough to go into it. Along the way I’ve ran into a nitrogen deficiency on a couple of the ladies that was slowed down with fish emulsions and a magnesium deficiency on a couple that was slowed with epsom salt both were remedied with an up pot to fresh soil from 5gal to 10gal pots. Soil is so much easier than hydro all I do is water and get out of their way. They know how to grow better than I do.

I popped 6 Wild Thai seeds back in March, 5 for an outdoor grow and one indoor and as pictured in previous post 2 of the 5 are flourishing. These are the other 3 and they’ve been through hell, but are still living.

My dog seems to love cannabis plants and thought it was ok to eat on a couple and this isn’t the 1st time. Needless to say she’s now banned from the part of the yard that I grow in during the day. Don’t know what will eventually become of these....

As I stated earlier “bag seeds are sooo tempting’” so I popped a few.

White Runtz

Pink Runtz
DBA4677B D992 4054 8936 302D6F925CB0

The plant in the middle smart pot is another that my dog ate on. She ate on it so much that I was forced to top it earlier than planned and It only had to lower fan leaves. It’s bounced back nicely.

Because I don’t know if they are male or female I decided to use what I topped as clones and flower the clones to find out their sex. These are the rooted clones of the white Runtz and one pink runtz. My first try at cloning

My 1st grow all 4 of my plants herm’d, I finished it out because I had nothing else ready and along with some of the best bud I ever had came what is beginning to look like 10,000 seeds or well over a lb of them. This is 7 oz of seeds that I’ve personally took out of bud.

There’s no doubt in my mind there’s over a lb of seeds coming from this harvest.

These Fire Og seedlings are actually 3 of the seeds above. No need wasting them and I’ve read the majority of them will be fems.

I hear you, heard so much about thai sticks also, but never had the chance to experience thai sticks. Well hope it turns out great for you! Was wondering is the wild thai regular or fem seed?

Day 14 from flip. Day 7 flower.
‘Things have been on autopilot. I just stay out of the way and let the soil & the ladies sort it out. They know how to grow better than I do so they’re running the show and I’mon environmental control duty.

To update my journal,

The 9 indoor plants that were in bloom were flowered out, but I did run into a few problems.

First,

I had two of my Jack Herer ladies to start pushing out stigmas 5 days after all the others even though they all were flipped at the same time and all throughout bloom they were noticeably behind all the others.
8C82B6F7 D2B2 4D72 AF88 2C2C53FD4040

Second,

By the end of week 3 (stretch) I started noticing deficiencies on a few of the plants. Major yellowing starting from the bottom up and at a fast rate. Four of the nine plants didn’t stretch a full 12 inches, where the others stretched 18-24 inches. It took me a few days but I finally found out that it was my supersoil mixture. I’d mixed it incorrectly and the plants were hungry. I’d used subcool recipe, but listening to a grower that has been growing for years, I used promix as my base soil. Not knowing promix has no npk, the ladies quickly depleted the amendments that were added. They were starving! I eventually got them back on track with BioThrive Bloom, but not without a few of them suffering... K deficiency is the wrong deficiency to have during bloom.

Third,

Middle of week 5 I see one of the Jack Herer ladies stigmas changing from white to brown, so I stop feeding her and resume water only in case I was over feeding, but they never went back white and continued to brown and she continued to grow and I eventually ended up with an all brown plant.Bud was great, had a nice terp profile and all the buds were just a brownish color. Also with her finishing earlier than the others I had to find a way to dry and cure. I normally use my grow room but it was occupied at the time so I went with the low and slow refrigerator method. It works great, but I prefer the traditional hang dry.

All in all a I’m pleased and call it a successful grow. Harvested 3.5 lbs dry from 9 plants and there is still room for improvement.

Fourth,

Outdoor grow was a thing of beauty even with the soil being mixed improperly. Only because I had 40gal to divide between only 2 plqnts. Couldn’t ask for it to have gone smoother than it did, up until September. A few consecutive days of rain and warm nights started the powdery mildew and shortly after came the bud rot. One of the plants I tossed 70-75% of the buds because of the rot. The other plant lost about 10%. This is where I made up my mind not to grow with friends who don’t take the grow as serious as I do. Still, I call it a success. Harvested 12oz from the two ladies. The most challenging part of the outdoor grow came at the end. This grow was located an hr away from my grow room and curing at the grow location was not an option. So, I rented a uhaul truck and loaded the two ladies up late on night and drove them to my grow room for drying and curing. I’ve did this for the better part of my life, but never with plants!! Never again lol.

Fifth,

It’s the end of October now and everything is either cured or curing except for the last of the outdoor crop. Sunlight is minimal, barely 8 hours during the day, so the last 4 plants will have to finish indoor.

Forward to November 19th and I’m looking through the loupe checking trichomes and it seemed as if I saw something alive in there. So I quickly backtrack where I was looking and I see an opaque, tiny bug crawling around. I follow it looking through the loupe and it goes over to a clear, tiny bubble looking thing, where another one of these little opaque looking insects are. Ive never encountered any but knew immediately that ’these gotta be spider mites. After researching it was confirmed that they were spider mites and not only that but I was in the middle of an infestation and didn’t even know it. Close to a month I would work with the flowering plants and then work with the vegging plants not knowing the whole time I’m spreading mites. This would later explain why my vegging plants looked to be lacking nitrogen and the funny leaf curl similar to heat stress. I let the plants finish flowering which was enough time for the mites to build a nice sized web on one of the branches. Nothing a good bud wash shouldn’t be able to handle.. right? RIGHT ON! Baking soda, h202, lemon juice should do it. I’d also read that after you harvest and hang that the mites hate being upside down and will migrate to the highest point, which is exactly what they did. I don’t think any survived the bud washing and am thinking the leftover mites were from eggs that hatched after washing and hanging. After about 5 days of hanging I cut the stems at the top where the mites had migrated to on each of the hanging buds. They would hang for about another week and I wouldn’t find anymore mites so I bucked them into cure bags, cured them for a month and no sign of any mites on the finished product.
