So, my first 3 years I was switching feed from day 1 of flower.
Last 7 years I've been switching once stretch has slowed and nugs are forming.
But my brains pondering side has been opened up again after speaking with a shop. My question was, baring in mind feed schedules state week 1 through to 8 or 9, if I'm continuing veg feed for first 2 weeks on average of 12 12, then what weeks do I skip on the feeding regime as I've obviously eaten 2 weeks into it while on veg nutrients.
Which is when he came back with something I wasn't expecting, which was switch feeds when you switch lighting to 12 12.
His reasoning behind it was it keeps them from stretching so much which makes sense if you have a need to have short plants. SaidbAdvanced Nutrients had done some research into it which went against the grain .

But I always thought stretching was an integral and natural way for the plant to decide where it wants to focus all its effort and reach for the stars.

Your thoughts and views and preferred methods please guys, as I'm now double taking which route to go , after 10 years you would of thought I'd found my way , but always open to suggestions and hearing others ways

Peace !!

I run my veg recipe through the stretch, typically week 3 of flower. But I try really hard not to over-veg, so I'm not trying to slow them down.

I'm doing the same thing this grow as what ArtfulCodger does. I've had early yellowings on most of my grows indoors so i just bit the bullet and cut my growth nute in 1/2 and give full bloom nutes mixed together. I plan to do so for maybe 30days i've just entered my first week of flower on some autos. I'm gonna do the same with my photos next grow. I don't think my NPK on flower is as high as other ferts i rarely get burn.

Depends on your media...hydro growers usually start adding early flower nutrients towards the end of week 3 with lights at 12/12.
Soil growers would start a weekish earlier.
Hydro takes and utilizes available nutrients immediately. Soil takes time for the plant to ingest and utilize the available nutrients

once your done with veg nutes, do you start with "week 3 bloom" or week 1 bloom nute ratios ?

That’s interesting
So in hydro you add veg nutes longer huh
Guess it makes sense. Still interesting.

Soil after 2 weeks switch to bloom if your hydro after 3 weeks change to bloom
Like artful said you can do veg nutes till week 3 mind there’s no precise way especially when your nutes maybe different however it’s a guide

I feed once when I flip and once the day I harvest. You guys and your synthetic nutrient problems.

My thought was always supply them with veg nutes that support the green growth and start with the flower nutes when I see pre flowers. Exactly like you I guess so I’m on your side haha

Also I’m very new to this. Just throwing in my two cents.

But I like to flip mine early and use the stretch to my advantage. I guess if you wanted to keep that down for space or whatever in theory it should work.

It's about how long it takes the plant to ingest and process nutrients. Hydro is fast in response.
Soil is slooooow.
For example, in hydro and I have a problem I think back to what I have done in the last 15 minutes to 24 hours.
When growing in soil and a have a problem, I need to think of what I have done a week ago.

I use organic nutrients and feed my plants according to how they're growing and what they need. It's complicated.

When you run different strains side by side, you'll get to see they get hungry for different things at different times, just like different strains transition to flower differently, and then you can adjust their feedings accordingly. The more intimate you get with a strain, the better you'll get at feeding it right. I have a Durban Poison that will eat all the N it can find during the stretch and it is happy. And I have an Ice Cream Cake that starts eating gobs of P as soon as it starts the stretch.

I'm in rockwool and switched at bud set (appx 14 days),
which in the case of my 4x8 tent, was too long for my
growing style. In the past i only used veg nutes for
7-10 days into 12/12's.

Flowering nutes will cause the stretch to slow & cause
the plant to focus more on flower development. my .02

But I always thought stretching was an integral and natural way for the plant to decide where it wants to focus all its effort and reach for the stars.
The plants are reaching for light. Stepping down gradually from the vegetation light schedule to the flowering light schedule can reduce stretching. I have been doing so for several crops, and it has worked every time. I reduce the light duration (from 18/6) by two hours and wait a few days and repeat till it gets to 12/12. It has worked for every strain I've tried. I've used more gradual changes, but it can become more trouble than it's worth. The three-step method is adequate.
