Never thought of skewers! I use a new sharpened pencil… very gently…Sounds like the soil is becoming hydrophobic. Ive never tried rice hulls but Ive used a wood skewer to poke some holes in it and that helped

I’ve got a few of these. One 15 gallon and four seven gallon ones. Good quality and the plastic lining helps keep moisture in the soil so you don’t have to water them so much.I've tried a few different brands of fabric pots. These are the most superior I've found, due to the evenness of soil drying. I bought them down to 1 pack left in case anyone here wants/needs some good new 5 gallon pots. 15 dollars cheaper than anywhere else..
