You guys have any idea what could cause pistil tips to go brown/orange in the beginning of flowering?

I know pollen does that but I’m not too worried about that prospect. I had the same thing happen on my last/first round of plants.

These plants haven’t been fed nitrogen but they were never too happy even just with how much was in the soil.

Maybe it’s that? Wigs me out a little bit, but not too much ;)

Any contact with a pistol can cause it to brown and whither, ie touching buds and rubbing them to see how they smell.

Does anyone know if it's true that if weed is less than 55% RH in the curing jar then no curing will take place and it can't be restarted if hydrated?

I'm seeing this a lot on forums and don't know if it's actual science or just something people repeat. It seems like if you hang a whole plant, smaller buds will be way dryer than big colas by the time they're jarred, so are those small buds just done for as far as curing goes?

Leo,
Why do we cure? Remove moisture, like anything else we preserve by removing moisture. Dry buds don’t support fungal growth very well and help preserve the terpinoids, flavonoid, cannabinoid, all -oid profiles.

At 55% RH you’re only 5% too dry. And what’s the accuracy of the hygrometer? Your good.

This is just a small jar of lower buds I harvested early to have some smoke until the official chop that's coming up. It's reading 52% with one of those small rectangular hygrometers you can get off Amazon. I have a few of them and the readings can vary, so I picked one that reads the average.

Not really concerned about this jar and it's not a harsh smoke at this point. They're not brittle all the way through and still have a little give. But want to make sure my drying time is right for the main harvest.

Even though the RH is lower than it should be, they're still extremely sticky. Like I can't imagine them working in a grinder without gumming it up.

I have heard that. I did have direct airflow on them, but nothing crazy. I’ll just keep spying in every nook and cranny for the next couple of weeks and hope for the best!

Mine did that too and never saw signs of hermies or seeds. Heard about the touching thing, and it was even on buds that I know I couldn't have touched.

In my case I'm wondering if it was related to the nute burn I started getting in flower. I know it's seen in the tips of leaves, so maybe the tips of pistils too?

I have read that nute burn can cause it. Doubtful in my case.

Do you guys have your fans pointing towards your canopy or just above it?

I have fans blowing on the plants from the top and an intake blowing on them from the bottom. With the burnt pistils in my case, it was sometimes on the lower buds while the tops with the most air were all white. Could be one all white and one with burnt pistils right next to it. I'm talking early flower.

They’re going to reach a point of maturity where they turn brown, orange, red or any other color than white as you get closer to harvest, also but seeing it early in flower is a good reminder to keep checking things out. Noticing them just means you are doing a good job of checking things over.
