What's up farmers?! Your favorite long-winded, detail oriented, tech personality is back. It's been a bit since I've posted; I think since 2016-ish. I hopped on a rocket ship, and holy shit has it been a ride. This place looks a lot different, don't see many of the faces I'm used to active anymore. Kinda surprised I remembered my login, frankly. Anyways, I'm finally in a place that I think I'll be able to do this right this time.
What's the deal?
If you click on the two microgrow links in my signature, you'll see what I'll be starting with. These seeds, a strain I've continued to refer to as "nothing," have effectively been in storage for roughly ten years. The original story about these genetics is here.
Unfortunately, due to some life-changing events at the end of the last run of these, I'm starting back at the F1's of this hybrid. What this means is a huge level of instability in the genetics on top of the seeds being at least a decade old. Out of the roughly 30 I've tried to germinate this year (had a couple start last year but they didn't fair well starting outdoors), I've had two actually germinate, that are moving along now. I have another 12 in a paper towel now, hoping to bump these numbers up a bit.
I am using a Growstar S-600 LED (cheap, good amazon reviews) to start seedlings under, and they get plenty of time out in the sunlight. So far, it's been working out well. I plan on getting at least one more for the space it's in currently. I bought it to start veggie seedlings under, and it's working well for that (over 60 veggie plants in one raised bed at this point).
This season will be an all out attempt to refresh these genetics, and for the first time attempting to generate some F2's, and hopefully stabilize this strain. I'll also be ramping up the indoor a bit as I've just ordered some other seeds as well, and I want to document the full journey of re-immersing myself into this passion. For now, I'll shut up, and leave you with one pic of the duo at their current state. Admire the mutations -- this shit is unstable af.
