Thinking of getting this kit to try out some COB LED lighting. Any thoughts? Should I get the 3000K or a different one for combined vegging and flowering? I looked up the price of the parts, and this kit is just about the same price as the parts, so it seems like a good deal.

My space is 3x3x5 ft, and I use a SCROG hydroponic DWC setup. I'll probably eventually get two of these, for now I'll probably run it alongside my Higrow 600.

Its an ok entry level kit.i dont like the heatsink and how close you have to mount the cobs.less flexible then just hanging 3 or 4 separate cobs in there.i could probably find a similar deal at timber with 4 x citizen cobs for your 3 x 3

More money but all the lights you would need for a 3 x 3.you could use your other led for veg

But if you look at their page they have a 4 x citi cob fixture for under 300 ready to plug in just like this one.much better heatsinking on these units so they will last forever.

What temperature(?) should one get for all around use? 3000, 3500?

That unit isn't much more than two of that kit.

3000K 90CRI or 3500K 80 CRI are the perfect "all around" temps imo

Wait a minute m8. Weren't you the one in the cheap led thread telling me you have no need for lights like that? ;)

I guess my main concern would be that your tent is only 5' tall. These lights are pretty powerful. Depends how well you manage the canopy I suppose

5 feet is plenty tall for cobs,i would use 3500k for full cycle growing.2700k 80cri is my preferred color for flowering only

Yeah, it's not a tent, it's a closet. I can extend my light frame if needed, but I plan on doing scrogs

I have an open mind. I'm getting decent results out of the cheapos, but am wondering what the other side looks like.
Come On Over To The Dark Side. The Waters Fine. Here's My Timber Dual Spectrum Lamp. It uses 4 Vero29 4000k SE And 2 Vero Decor 1750's Aka the Meat Chip

Yea, I think the Vero29 3000k-90 I'm using needs a touch more red in flower. Meat Chip looks like it covers that.
I might add 30 watts of cree xp2 far red/ red on another circuit.
I see the buds under Vero29 alone not quite as developed as the ones under the Vero29/ Roleandro (White Blurple) COB. I just swapped the plants around and will watch for the next couple weeks.

The Rolandro has just developed a stutter and strobe when turning on cold, bad thermal issue, then works warm. Customer service was rapid and getting back to me on that, but that's the difference in quality of using top notch parts DIY, vs fan cooled hard driven small drivers.

94% efficiency vs 85% plus a cooling fan on manufactured unit..

Whats Up Brother 1816 House. Thats Strange You Mention That The Rolandro Uses Vero's Cause The 1's Ive Seen Use's Chipsets And Not A True Les Cob. Also Are You Running Clones Or Seeds?? If From Seed The Lack Of Density Is Probley Genetics And Not Light Related. I Myself Prefer The 4000k 90 Cri In Any Mfg's Cob. I've Also Worked With The 5000k 80 Cri With 730's Added At The End Of The Day To Combat The Added Flowing Time The 5000k Add's But The Frost Is 2nd To Non IMHO

No, I have Vero29 in one light and the Roleandro next to it with different COB, the white/blurple one. Not the Cree one.
The chip is a weird looking one. You can see the row that developed issues.

The plant completely under the Veros is running about 3 days behind anyway, and 2 plants under Vero/Roleandro have more bud development.
They are from seeds, and that's why I switched them around, to see if they develop the same. Just an observation for now.

Ah I See They Went To The Chinese Red/Blue Cob. When Tim Is Apply'd Properly Does A Decent Enough Job However Quality Control Lacks And That's Why Alot Of Us Old School Led Growers Bitch About. Now When You Have 2 Light Sources That Overlap Each Other You Will See Faster Development In That Area

so, I'm running straight 3000K CRI90 vero29se in my flower tent, I was thinking of adding some far-red initiators on a separate driver and have them come on with the rest of the lights, go off 15 to 30 minutes after lights off time. I was also told I should add a few 4000K or 5000K to help with photosynthesis...

With Your 730's I'd Turn Them On 3 minutes Before Lights Out And Run Them For 15 Minutes After Lights Out. To Prevent Elongation Of Your Stems

I Love The Upper Kelvin For The Frost It Produces So Adding A 5000k To Your Existing Grow Would Be A Win Win. Below Is Pictures Of My Grow Cab With The Cree Cxb 5000k 80 Cri Vegging. When I Switch To Flower I Plan On Adding A Citizen 1212 3500k 90 Cri At 60 Watts And Combined With The 90 Watts I'm Running My Cxb At That Will Give Me 150 Watts For Me Little Grow Cab :mushtache:
