I just realized that you have two questions embedded into one. The thread title asks about misting in sunlight.
But I also notice you ask if it's alright to water them, which to me means watering at the roots. And if that's the other part of the question, it's perfectly fine to water during the day, even when it's hot.
It is not a good idea at all to mist, foliar feed or put anything that will interrupt that daytime transpiration or cause phototoxicity (and some feeds can do that), and thusly early morning or evenings are best.
So, watering/feeding during daylight, in direct sun = A-OK.
Misting/foliar feeding in the same = bad juju.
