I know many of you have systems over 50+ gallons. I'm wondering where you get your clean water when the time comes to change out the solution.

R/O from my sink. I had a flood and needed a 100 gal asap a while back. I am in a E&F with hydroton so I needed it fast. I had to get it from one of those water stores. It cost .25 a gal and I was out of there in 15 minutes.

I have been buying bottled RO water from the supermarket. At $1.69 per bottle it is, by far, the most expensive part of growing. My res only holds 12 gallons and it costs me about $20 per week in water. I am about to harvest this first grow, and I won't be starting another until I can afford to get one of these...

This is a tabletop RO filter, no need to install into your plumbing. Just set it near the sink and connect it to the faucet. I've spent about exactly what this filter cost just buying water for one grow, I won't even do it again until I can make my own RO water. The water is way to expensive to buy at the store.

DD you can get a couple of those 5 gal water bottles and get refills for usually between .25 and .33 a gal - most grocery stores have the big RO dispensers

What is RO? I've been buying gallons of purified from grocery store and using rain water when I can. Also tried some from a river and pond. Just sucks kneeling down at the bank of it filling them all up.

No tap water will be RO water. If a city is using an RO process, they are still adding all sorts of things like chlorine and floride into the water after that. Then the water will run through 100 year old pipes to get to your house... and you'll wind up with 100-300 PPM tap water like everyone else. You need your own filter to take all that stuff back out again.

hmmm me thinks a city water supply would still have chlorine/chloramine and/or flouride in it

When you go on hunting for one. Keep in mind to get one fast enuff to refill every Res in the hole place in one day. I use ton of hydro logic, Spectra pure has some real sick high flow R/O if your demand is that high. I like ones that are like 98%+ rejection witch normally will do it. Lets see OH how much does it Wast. Get a good 2/1, seen 1/1 that are nice some don't clean as well if there is not a big dump too if you got real high PPM from the tap.

interesting question
i just use tap water free of charge available 24/7
and still does the job
ph average 7.0
ppm average 200ppm
added fluoride
and calcium

i let it sit over night in a 25 lt bucket before i use it or as needed , usually just a top up of 5 lts every night

R/O Very Recommended!

I used well water for my first harvest with moderate results. The PH was 6.7 - 7. I converted over to R/O water and the results were tremendous! If memory serves the R/O system was around $250 plus the tank. I keep 50 gals in a tank with a constant air stone running in the bottom. There is a also a pump in the tank with a hose leading to the grow room. There is an auto refill on the tank with a float switch. So the entire water system is almost automatic. This has made a huge difference in water quality and ease of use! Highly recommend R/O!!

nice ....similar system to mine although i dont have a automatic thingy
i just top up the evaporated equivalence every night
roughly 5 ltrs
i fully flush every 2 weeks
the air stones keep it from being stagnant
plus it be R/O makes life soo much easier

Water Water Water....Quality

My overall idea is; water is life to plants and the quality of the water reflects the quality of your plants life cycle! In reading, experience, and consulting, R/O really makes a difference for indoor growing. The cost may seem a bit steep up front, but that frustration quickly goes away with the improvements. Think of a nutrient that keeps on given.....
