I am starting this thread for any guerrilla grower in the world to share their experiences of the 2010 northern hemisphere growing season. Anybody that is planning an outdoor grow this year can feel free to post their thoughts and photographs in this thread as if it was there own. Anybody that wants to learn how to grow is welcome to follow along and ask questions and contribute in any way they choose.

I am going to use this thread as my internet base for the 2010 season. This thread is going to be completed even if I am the only one who ever posts anything in it. It is starting now and will finish up with dried harvest pics at the end of the season. I have finished every internet thread I have ever started. I am only saying this so anybody thinking about joining and following along knows their time won’t be wasted and will hopefully join in and hopefully commit to making this the best outdoor thread on the web.

Lots of things can be learned in a “Think Tank” thread like this. When many people are involved threads like this move along better and there isn’t as many dead spots because multiple people are making updates on their progress. Sometimes threads done by individuals, especially outdoor when you can’t visit everyday, have long, boring non-updated stretches because nothing new is going on. Multi user outdoor threads seem to cruise right along.

I will now start with my own thoughts on the subject. Please keep in mind these are how I do things. I have changed and adapted my methods over the years partly because of what I have learned on the internet and partly from personal experience.

The last few years I have been planting the cornfields with great success but last year the Helicopters were out in full force for the first time in many years and I lost a lot of work to the Helicocksuckers. I also lost a lot of work and money to the combines because of something called Sonic Corn. It is feed corn but it is ready in September and I didn’t see that one coming either. I am staying out of the corn until I figure out what is up with it this year. I am sticking to stream and river banks, small fields and woodland open areas where I always planted before I got lazy and moved into the corn. That way I will not have to worry if they will get combined or found before they finish.

When it comes to guerrilla growing I have been around the block a time or two. This year my goal is 20 pounds.

If you are using seeds (unless feminized) you need to be starting them soon so you can presex them and sort out the males. It is just too much work to care for and plant a bunch of unsexed seedlings that turn out to be male. I work too hard digging holes to waste the effort on a male. The hardest physical work is in the digging of the holes and lugging supplies for the early part of the season. I eliminate the males.

In past years I have always started with unfeminized seeds and a few clones I was lucky enough to get. This year I am using all clones of moms I have and a pack or two of feminized seeds. I have an advantage in that I have collected some nice moms of strains I know will finish in my area which is 40 N on the east coast of the U.S.A. Sometimes I can finish a 12-13 week strain because we can have no frost until early November. But the average last frost date is officially Oct 25. I stick to 11 week or less. Most are 60-70 days strains (8.5-10 weeks). I harvest Oct 5 to Oct 15.

Inside you just switch to 12/12 outside it doesn’t take 12/12. The plants start sensing longer nights. The longest day is the summer solstice around June 20-22. So after that the nights start getting a tiny bit longer each and every day. By August 1-5 even though there is still 14 hours of light or so the nights have gotten longer and many pot plants will have taken notice. Typically 8-10 week strains will start to have hairs by mid August. Just like switching indoors it takes 12-14 days after 12/12 to see many hairs. This is why I figure outdoors flowering starts to trigger around August 1 and 63 days (9 weeks) from then is Oct 4, 10 weeks Oct 11 and 11 weeks (77 days) is Oct 18th. This isn’t written in stone but this gives growers who haven’t found “their area strains” a place to start when selecting strains for their area. That is where I started my search to find my strains.

I keep seedlings and clones on a 16/8 light schedule for my outdoor plants. I also don’t put anything in the ground until after May 15. IMHO putting plants outdoors too early especially in April when it is already long nights. Combine that with a noticeable decrease from an indoor to outdoor night length could make them trigger into flowering and then have to reveg as soon as June rolls around. At the very least it confuses them and slows them down. This will delay things and actually rob you of a whole month of healthy vegetative growth, maybe more. If you take 2 identical clones and put one out in early April and 1 out on May 20th in my experience when July rolls around the later transplant will have outgrown the earlier one because it never stopped its vegetative state.

It is time to start your seeds and multiply your clones now.

I am in the process of rooting cuts. This year my clones I will be using are Southern Cal Master Kush, the White, Chemdog D and Blueberry. I have grown these before and they will finish by Oct 15 or a little sooner.

The feminized seeds I will be using are OG RASKALS GDP x The White and [OG Kush FC x The White.

Each year I plant some new stuff to see if it finishes and this year it will be clones of my own cross that I have not had time to flower indoors. I made a cross of the White x Original Haze and I am excited to give it a go this year. In case you haven't noticed by now I have fallen head over heels for The White and I want to experience it in different crosses. I want to play with the keepers I find in the crosses too.]

I also usually add a strain or two that I ran into or end up deciding to start other seeds. This year I want to keep my plant numbers manageable. I also want to reach my weight goal so I am going to really put the work into the holes and maximize each plant as much as you can with a NO TRAILS TO THE PATCH guerrilla grow.
This will involve deep, well prepared holes and 2 foot tall 1 foot diameter chicken wire fences. It is a total crap shoot without fences. If you can hide a plant you can hide a fence.

I will post some pictures of the moms and cuts rooting in the next day or so. In the meantime feel free to ask questions or post what you have planned for 2010. You can also start to organize your own grow by asking yourself a few questions. What strains are you going to grow? How much weed do you want or need at harvest? How many plants do you want to plant to reach that goal? Where can you grow outside? If you need help with these decisions ask away.

I have had 30 years of outdoor harvests. All planted and harvested by myself. My wife does help with trimming. I usually get 10-20 pounds with not much trouble. When I was much younger and the man wasn’t watching as close I had a 7 year run of 50 pound seasons but that was seeded bud. A few years ago I had a harvest of 100+ lbs. That year I ruined myself for a year afterwards. I had 400 plants 150 of which were fenced in the wilds and 250 were unfenced and in the corn. That was the year I went corn grow crazy. I had some 2-4 pound 10+ feet monsters in the corn. I ended up trimming that year by putting a tarp under each plant and trimming with a rechargeable hedge trimmer. Then I packed the big bud branches and jammed all lower branches into garbage bags with the trim for hash. It was still overwhelming. I ended up just cutting the big colas and packing them nice and jammed the other branches in bags. I harvested every night from 1am to 4 am from Oct 4 until I was finished on Oct 23. It took until right before Christmas to finish the final trimming.

The spring of that year I planted 3-4 hours every night from May 20 until July 1st. My feet and hands were as sore as they have ever been but in the end it was worth it but I will never go that big again. I included some pics for your enjoyment. Consider it my online resume. They are all 10+ feet tall. It was quite the year.

Good Luck to all and welcome outdoor growers worldwide.

Very nice Tobor, I've had porn in the corn too (as I call it) . Sounds like we do similar styles. I don't put all in one area. Some in corn, some in fence rows, others in southern or eastern edges of pastures or timber lots, some on terraced hills, some even in obscure country ditches. Try to hedge my bets , but like you said I too ain't as young as I use to be and now keep the numbers to doable size. Good thread starter. May the grows gods be with you. Peace

Thanks for checking this thread out Dr. Sticks. I like the sounds of that phrase you coined "porn in the corn". You can get some really sweet plants in the corn. Plants that rival backyard divas.

It is always best to have multiple small plots or individual plants scattered all about to ensure some will make it through to harvest. It can be tricky to remember though. Don't laugh people because the wilds can be mildly easy to misplace a plot but in the corn you can lose somebody that you walked in with (you can't yell on a mission) so plants can be hard to locate. Better keep a good row count.

One of the clones I am going to run outdoors this year is a Blueberry s1. Here is the story and pics on it.

Blueberry s1

A few years ago I was gifted a Blueberry cut that might be one of the best examples of blueberry around. It has a distinct blueberry flavor that you don’t have to search for. BAM! It is right there on the exhale especially. This cut also has excellent potency. Very indica/sativa mixed with a lot of body and a nice head. You are very relaxed and very stoned.

It was spread around to people with the condition they pass it on to other deserving people. Deserving meaning people that love to grow, share, get high and are nice to people. I grew it outside the first year. It was definitely a keeper. It was a nice yielding plant too. I spread it around to a few people. A couple of them were blueberry freaks and had a keeper but were still looking for the “this taste like blueberries AND fucks me up” cut. They both loved this and it became their keeper. It had a good fan club on Planet Ganja.

The only drawback was for me and some others this cut was a pain in the ass to root cuttings. Although some people could clone the heck out of it. I tossed it for that reason but would get it back sometimes to run it. Anyways there were two members of PG that could really get the blueberry flavor to pop when they grew it. I gave out a bunch of samples of the white and got some BB buds from one of those guys that could max out the flavor. In that sample (4 or 5 nice buds about a nickle) I found one seed and one seed only, buried deep in one of the buds. I saved it for a rainy day project. :character0053: for a pheno.

I was starting an Original Haze and Thai Stick Sativa grow and thought what if I get all males and I end up with nothing to play with. I figured the BB seed had to be an s1 and would be a female so I germinated it. A couple weeks before I put it under 12/12 I took a cutting and hoped it would root better than the original cutting. It rooted in 5 days. It is a very vigorous grower too. I was glad I cloned because it did end up being a female..

I had the original seedling in a 1 gallon pot (.92 gallon actually). It was super easy to grow as was the original cut. It was a bit different though. It isn’t quite as indica looking as mom but it does look indica. It also had bright orange hairs where the other had reddish brown or orangish brown. The bright orange hairs really stand out on the plant.

It is just as frosty as the original maybe a bit more. This one smells like blueberries the way the other one tasted. Very powerful blueberry aroma. It isn’t as heavy stone as the original but it does have more head and is still nice and potent. It has a very blueberry/fruity aroma and the taste although not nearly as blueberry it has a very sweet taste mixed with hashy flavor. I liked it enough to keep it around for awhile. This one took 77 days, 11 weeks to become mostly cloudy with a very few scant ambers. Just the way I liked it. I think for being in a .92 gallon pot the yield looks nice. especially when I flushed for 3 weeks just to see if it worked. I never flushed over 1 week before. It was super smooth with not a hint of harshness and burns to nothing but white ash.

I am already getting geared up for this outdoor season. I plan on putting out 70-80 girls this spring. I have a killer location already scouted and plots prepared. I will go back out in the middle of April and fluff up the holes. It is a southern facing slope that is 45 deg. angle and about 20 feet tall. It goes down to a very remote small stream. I created my own cross to grow outdoors this year. It is a x of Critical Mass x Early Durban. I plant my crops memorial day weekend, and have 30 clones already going. I will cut of these throughout the winter/spring till I get to my mark. I am looking to pull 30 pounds. I will keep this thread updated.

That location sounds sweet Malachi. Southern exposure with a nearby stream. That sounds like the spots I love best. I have had very good luck outdoors with durban crosses. I got some very potent phenos of Skunk/durban and Thai/urban that finished surprisingly early. Some were surprisingly late too but that was from the thai in both crosses.

Alright we are getting some growers in here. This thread might just get rolling along. The time is now to get started on your outdoor if you haven't already done so.

Chop! Chop! If you want to be able to chop later.

Nobody lives in the house except my pot plants, an 8 foot carpet python and a million bats in the attic. I get shopvacs full of fresh bat guano every couple weeks. A bat guy told me there were over 10,000 bats in the attic.

The water has a ppm of 850, It is loaded with sulfur gas, calcium, magnesium and iron. I use creek water and rain water for the plants. I take a shower there sometimes but my wife won't even go to the bathroom there. LOL! MAN CAVE!!

BreederBrad hello there. I had great results with ggxdp last year. I will run that again someday. I think this thread will be a good one when in full swing. Especially if other growers put up their grow shows too.

Kennie and LaoGrow I am real excited to have you guys thinking about posting here. I wouldn't mind hearing where people are from if people feel comfortable doing that.

man I sure miss those outdoor days...nagging madical issues with my back have limited me to just a very few small plots....and those are easily found if someone took the time...I do just to get my "garden fix" out of the way..LOL....I really do miss that and I will try to live it vicariously through you all outdoors.....

I used to do the same as you tobor, I would plant from around 1st of may, all the way to 1st of June...every single night....it kind of gets to the point where you are in love with just planting the plants, almost as if your seeing them off as you have taken care of them since feb....they are almost like kids.

then in the fall, I too spent so much time out picking....now in the fall I did more time researching my area than I do anything....I would stake out my plots for a few days before actually picking...just to make sure. You need to make sure LEO has not set up game cameras, traps, just alot to look out for that you really didnt need to look out for all summer....LEO wants to catch you with the final product....

I am in people, I wish I could join you all....but I will be here living it up.

Welcome to the grows lidspinner. It is a difficult hobby to keep doing every year on a decent scale outdoor level. Many years I just went for the 10 plant grow and tried to get as close to 5 pounds as I could for the yearly supply. It was mostly due to time constraints but when your best physical days were in the 70s and 80s it is harder. I am glad I can continue on. I think I can do one more good decade. But I am going back to total coyote style growing. The sneaky individual plants along streams and meadows and some clearings on some steep mountainsides facing south. I am staying away from the corn.

I am expecting my Purple Urkle x The White seeds to arrive this week. In the begining I said they were GDP x The White it is Purple Urkel. On that note I will also plant some seeds of my own cross of GDP x Bubba Chunk. I ran the GDP and the flavor was awesome and even though it had some potency it was lacking in that department for me. I had a nice Bubba Chunk male from some seeds I had been gifted of Bubba Kush (katsu cut) x a stud Deep Chunk male from an original pack of Deep Chunk. I grew some outside 2 years in a row and they are all very stable and get super nice. They have the GDP smell and taste but with a good amount of coffee kinda smell from the bubba and some skunky afghani flavor from the Deep Chunk. I don't know why but GDP x BC seems like it should be similar in a kinda Quater Ponder with Cheese is the same as a whopper kinda way to PU x the white. We will see.

I am also going to do a few seeds of a strain I was gifted by The Mole of Uranium Cranium fame on Planet Ganja. It is Lemon Chemo x UBC. UBC is supposedly a narcotic type strain for cancer patients and I think Chemo might have been too. I have a few friends that could use something like that if it turns out good.

I told you I would probably add to my list.

Nice thread! I've got my plot picked - south facing, plenty of water and about 2000' in elevation. Germinating seeds now, and will be cutting the mothers in a couple weeks too. Not sure which strains I'll be running outside, but definitely some PK, OGK, GDP, hopefully MKultra, and possibly some Chimera and Reeferman gear. Ordering seeds has been a new thing for me as of this year, so we'll see how it goes. Very interested in some of Raskals stuff. I'm thinking about possibly light derprivating a dozen or two for an early harvest if its not too much work, or light depping some Malawi (always been curious about growing that one) to make sure we can pull it along with the rest. Its going to be a sweaty year!

Who Dat!! That beat dem Colts!! %$%$#$

I have a pack of Purple Kush from GrindHouse. I did 4 seeds last year and got 2 females that were really, really nice up until the chopper found them. Where is your Purple Kush seeds from? NL is a nice strain and there are some good early cash cropper but still potent crosses and variations of NL.

I didn't know it but last year some idiot ripped all the corn in the center of a huge cornfield that was within a mile of mine. The had a 50 foot by 50 foot cleared square with 100 6 foot plants in the middle. Keep in mind the corn was only 4 feet tall at this point. After that the choppers were everywhere all summer long. They got a lot of my scattered cornfield plants even though I had just a few in each field. Last year the corn was a disaster because of the helicocksuckers.

Hey 500 didn't see ya. That sounds like a hard but sweet spot to grow. You should get some fine sun on that mountainside. That Malawi has always interested me too. I look forward to see your grow on here this year.

I am glad we have some growers to start this season off. More will come. The season will be upon us soon enough.

what are your thoughts on using natural rain water and creek water? have you ever tested rain water to check its contents such as ph and mineral contents? looks as though you have got skills at camoflauging your girls in with the normals.
