Farmers,

a bit of an emergency.

Yesterday, I filled a res w/ water and bleach(clorox) to clean it. I had to run before I could finish. So there it sat, no more than 1/2c - probably 1/4c of bleach and 15 gallons of water. PPMs at 160, with 80 of that from the water source.

In a mental lapse, my partner fed most of the plants w/ this solution :mad0233:

-I've searched and found one thread here that shows a mother plant dying from dried bleach residue on the floor which it sat.
-I've also searched other sites and found mentions of bleach being a source of chlorine, a micro nutrient used by plants. So long as the ppms weren't high enough then the plants may be using it as nutrients.
-I also know that clorox more than likely killed off all my bennies/myko.
-I understand that some people run bleach in rezzies to fend off root rot in hydro setups.

So i'd love your thoughts on this. what would you do?

I drenched the soil w/ water and roots organics Oregonism, hoping that it would dilute any bleach in the media and reinnoculate the media as well.

You might want to hit up seamaiden if you try that... I think I was reading her posts when I read about the stuff.. its just a random Idea i got.

the stuff is suppose to remove chlorine from water, but then it probably produces a by product.. im not real familiar with it.

crossing my fingers for you,, hope you can get save them .. good luck :)

At times Ive added straight bleach to my reso. Learned about it from fatman.

Keeps things nice and clean, but kills bennies.

Just do a flush and see what happens. Good Luck. I think your plants will be fine.

How do they look today? its not good pratice but most plants can handle up to 10% bleach solution with out die'n. the issue is PH with skyrocket.

this is reassuring. I've also read of people doing it w/ no real harm. except for bennies of course. I will be adding tons in the next week just to be sure.

this. If you plants die, you will know within several hours

also reassuring. when i saw them last, about 10hrs ago, they were fine and that was 6hrs after the initial bleach solution hit the media.

i'll be there in a few minutes so i'll report any changes. fuck me...this sucks. crossing my fingers.

Thanks for the help. anyone else w/ some advice or thoughts?

Dechlorinator--keep some on hand. I like sodium thiosulfate because you can get 2lbs for $5 from The Chemistry Store dot come, and then that would be mixed to a 1%-3% solution, where approximately 1tsp will dechlorinate 1-5gals.

No update since yesterday afternoon..... what does it mean???!!!

Otherwise, I would expect that, barring the plant sitting in the chlorinated solution, it should be alright if not a bit shocked, maybe upset.

just thought id say i have had two occasions where loads of dirty detergent water has been dumped onto my plants

have grown at two places where the washer feeds into a double sink put my plants in there watering them space out and someone does laundry and shitloads of dirty blue brown water has just unloaded on a couple girls
first time it happened i freaked the fuck out of course
this has happened to two or three plants and i just flushed the shit out of them give em like a gallon of water at least and just flush out any junk that got in there
out of the three that had this happen i never saw one thing ever occur to it, i was ready for the worst but surprisingly there was no effect so hopefully the same goes for u gl man

Thanks for the tips SM.

As of yesterday they were fine..no signs of stress. So, i'm hoping i'm in the clear.

I'll be seeing them in an hour. I shall report any signs of stress.

Ive put a full load of DMZ and bleach at the same time in my reso with no bad results. I couldnt believe it in fact. I started to realize that I did understand plant biology very well.
