Right on! I do want to try out COBs in the future. I've been offset on trying them because I'm not very handy when it comes to electronics. I need to sit down sometime and do some good research. I'd prefer not to buy a prefab unit because the gist I get is you only get the best quality and deal if you build them yourself?

You can get quality prefab kits but you definately get a better deal price wise building them yourself plus you get the benefit of customizing the fixture to suite your setup and needs,check out horticulture lighting group,rapid led,led Gardener and a guy on YouTube that goes by growmau5 I think,also the led section on here is full of info and a handful of really knowledgeable and helpful people.

Alright these seedling are coming along nicely :D. The mix is slightly too hot but it’s not overkill either. Just giving them plain water when they want it nothing else. FFOF is some strong stuff even diluted with EWC and perlite. I typically go with LC’s base mix #1 as it is softer on seeds than base mix #2 IME.

thats very true with everything,was watching a you tube vid few weeks ago,super plant what it was called,a city with housing and every thing,they take shit we make here add 1 or 2 useless additives to it and sell it back,compound houses 2500 employees,all live raise there kids housing schools the whole nine yrds

Yes, you can do high quality with a DIY build but I bought high quality prefab through CF Grow on Amazon, also known as Panda Grow. When I priced out the parts and considered the hassle of a DIY, I decided for the prefab instead. I got a high end component 2 COB unit for $315. It is very nice. I was willing to pay the extra $100 not to have to build it and for a clean, finished looking unit. My next purchase will be a direct buy to China through Alibaba for less than I'd pay to build it myself. Around $200, $179 for 2, around $250 for the new one with the digital "everything" control (timer, temp, auto controls, and power draw displays). This is with top bin Cree CXB3590 COBs and Mean Well driver's. I first bought a little less price tag worthy single for $170. It didn't have the dimmer or daisy chain outlet and is set at 67watts (still love it) but it still is top bin Cree CXB3590 and Mean Well driver. I'm going to use it for clones/seedlings/males. The double is at where I consider the sweet spot. Price isn't bad, has dimmer and daisy chain plug, can use all 200watts, capable of growing 6-8 plants with enough clearance, better in a daisy chain for a larger grow than the bigger units (the bigger ones are just too concentrated).

There are also less expensive versions. Half the price by the same company but they put out a lot of heat and to me that means wasted energy that could have been applied to light waves. Some COB users say the 90 degree concentrator lenses block too many photons and take away from the natural 120 degree angle of the COBs but I like them and my girls are proof they work well. There are also boards with dozens of COBs but they basically do the same thing, cost the same for the coverage, and don't have the active cooling system like mine.

My suggestion, like I need to say it, buy the CF Grow CXB3590 x2 and see how you like it. If you still want to build DIY you can take it apart to see how it's built. I did it for that reason and decided I liked their build so much I'd rather not bother with DIY. Oh, with the Cree COBs you can swap them out for different frequency COBs because they plug into a special mount. You can use one fixture and make it more specialised for flower or veg with a COB swap. Other types of COBs are often soldered and can't do this easily.

Panda Grow/CF Grow have won me over. And even better buying the fixtures direct through Alibaba and lots of 10 replacement COBs (I'll let you guys know about how Alibaba works out and what import fees for the USA are). Thinking about selling to locals with the specialised COBs.

I recall you talking about Cree's having different BIN depending on quality. I will definitely be doing some more reading and thank you for that article. From what I have gathered so far 3500k is considered the full spectrum workhorse.

Don't forget to include quantum boards in your research,imo they are a bit better than cobs because they have a better light spread and still have good penetration unless you really under drive them,I also prefer passive cooling as it creates less noise having to have one or more less fans running,which then in return also reduces power consumption slightly.
I ran 2 Vero 29s 3500k at 1400ma,50w each and am in the process of adding a 3rd,my driver can do up to 4. This is in a 20in x 36in tent and they are on 140mm pin heatsinks,only have a circulation fan and an exhaust fan for the carbon filter,temps never get above 84-86F with tent closed up and central a/c vent closed to the room,currently I have 2 qb288 2700k quantum boards in that tent and I will be moving those and adding 2 more and put them in my 2x2 tent running at 1050ma,53w each or 212w total but I will have the dimmer as well if needed.

I'll most likely make a 5-10gal batch of compost tea and dilute it among the two raised beds. Compost tea is going to help break down and stabilize the soil even more in preparation for the young ones that will soon enter the stage. Although I'm sure I could get by without it since I just added some EWC to the beds however the glory of compost tea is it never hurts and can only help.

Turned my beds again yesterday. The smell of blood and bone is gone and now the soil smells pleasant and earthy.

dont know about your state bro,but molasses is high dollar shit for what it is here,i use the darkest brown sugar i can find,same thing pretty much ,the darker the more molasses that wasnt washed out,use it on all my fermenting

Dark brown sugar is a great alternative I completely forgot about that. I typically buy a small container of molasses at the grocery store because I eat it as well, and only use minor portions of it for compost teas when I make them. I agree it's definitely not cheap which I find hilarious but in the amounts I use it the cost is still very low.

I've never done it myself because I don't need so much but my local feed store sells 3.5gal of molasses for about $20. It's wildstock grade not meant for human consumption but definitely more affordable than human grade.

Ya man no way I would pay that for a gallon! I've read up about FPJ a few times. Seems like some good stuff and very fun to make. I have not got around to experimenting with that yet unfortunately. Mind telling me ore about OHN and LAB? I do not know about those at all.

orential herbal nutrients,several roots and herbs that make some damn fine feed for your plants,LAB is bacteria which can help a ton for folk living in areas were they deal with pm,foiler feed it and fungus be gone,check out chris trump on you tube,korean natural farming methods,dude goes in details how to make ,store and use ,OHN can be used once a week,i feed LAB and FPJ every time i feed my weed,they love the shit and i made hot weather FPJ to help with heat resistance,after i get my OHN finished going for one more FPJ and that gonna be cactus,shit is easy to make but i have found you have better results doing the single plants you want to ferment ,i tried cactus,comfrey and stinging nettle twice now,both time just beer,once i singled them out ,came out perfect,so once fermenting completed then i put them together.
it not only cheap but damn near free once you see the shelf life of this stuff,if you have a fridge you can storeit in hell no telling hoiw long it good,the OHN the older it gets the more potent it gets,so after a year you just drop down on amount you feed,the LAB has to be refrigrated,i used brown sugar to stabilize it,without refrigaration,still had one jar grow mold on top,that stuff my friend is alive and eats the sugar,you can hear the jars popping over there like your canning,so open give a breath close backup,just easier to refridgerate it,course if you got a women like mine you gonna have hell with all them jars in there hahahh

If you want to know about Quantum boards (those are the ones I said had dozens of COBs), Toaster79 knows all about them. He helped me a lot with my COBs.
