well...i have been running my 1000w hortilux since 2009...yep i know they are old, and have been used on 12/12 continuous since then, with the odd month break per year....so needless to say i am sure i am the guy with the oldest bulbs on the grow forums community(not just the farm) LOL...qanyways...tht being said, the last few harvests were about a pound per light, and the harvest i just did i got close to 2 pounds per light by just changing out my bloom supplement and adding trelis, nothing else....so im thinking its about time for a bulb change, i feel motivated and this harvest has permited me to make the lavish spending lol...i will be buying the bulbs by the case of 12, so i will be saving on bulk either way, btut i just dont know which i should get

so...i have seen a lot of talk about these new genisis bulbs...monster gardens has done a video testing them against all big brand bulbs, except the hortilux, which is what i have been using for years, never used anything else except for my MH(i use ushio) ...so this is the monster gardens video testing the bulbs and them saying genisis is the best amongst them

and here is another video testing bulbs, without the genisis, but including the hortilux

so..i have a problem comparing the 2 charts in the 2 different vids, both have ushio as second place, but monster gardens does not have the hortilux to compete with in their video...so my question is are they worth the change? or should i just stick with the tried and true hortilux( i mean they did last me a long time lol)

so does anyone have any experience, special knowledge, or can decipher the charts for me and tell me which is better?

The genesis bulb shows the strongest par and a good light spectrum per the videos...

yeah well i got a week to think about it...im thinking about going with what i have always gone with ....hortilux....but i keep hearing about the genisis and a lot of hype around it, and they are much cheaper on the price tag...but hortilux is the shit so im just looking for other ppls opinions

Genesis is Monster Gardens house bulb, they have them made and branded for them in China. I have no reason to doubt the video, but at the same time is take it with a grain of salt.

I made the switch from hortilux to ushio lately, and have been very happy.

Do you run the Super Hps from hortilux or the Dual arc ?

i have always run super hps from hortilux on magnetic ballasts

I would buy one of each and see for your self. In a dialed garden, and when only for bloom and not veg, I have found no noticeable differences between Sun Masters, Hortilux, Ushio. The Sun Masters are the most economical.

Monster Gardens is cool though, and where I get my Nectar, I'm not putting their genesis bulbs down at all. I used to run Hortilux and now run Ushio, both of which looked better to my naked eye than the generic bulbs, but I don't do any real testing.

well that explains why they didnt test it against the horti though

I am not a fan of those dual arc bulbs at all
a) they put out way less lumens and PAR (hps is essentially a 600 and mh is a 400) not an efficient use of 1000 watts imo
b) so now you have basically 2 bulbs in one housing doubling your chances for bulb failure
c) COST

Pretty sure if their bulb was better than Hortilux they'd be advertising the shit out of it.

That is monster gardens import bulb. Obviously they're gonna be pumping it up. I'd definitely 100% stay with Hortilux.

As you said, tried and true.

I need to replace bulbs as well. I've always used hortilux hps in the past but I've been checking out
those hortilux 'blue'. Spectrum looks pretty damn nice, but such a huge drop in lumens.
Anybody running those?
Sorry didn't mean to hi-jack your thread........

The Horti Blues are killer for veg and the last 10-14 days of bloom, but stick to the HPS for the bulk of the bloom phase.

Yeah, I got a few MH's I throw in for last few weeks.
Always on look out for something new and better though......

They have been tested, Hortilux won. Hortilux has the most intensity on the market, hands down.

The idea behind the Genesis bulb is the cost savings each year to run a bulb that tests a fraction behind Hortilux. Because of the slight difference between the bulbs I always call BS when I'm told someone yielded significantly less under them.

I haven't met a qualified gardener yet that has mastered every variable in the garden to rule a bulb swap to their poor harvest.

my bulbs are about 7 years old....i am honestly surprised they are still running, lol...but i am sure a bulb swap will raise my harvest numbers lol...thats the reason i made this thread, i have always used hortilux, but there is always hype on some new product, but i would rather ask the community before i go and spend the $

lol, damn! 7 years???? I went 18 months on a few hortilux bulbs before, was SO happy when I started incorporating a bulb swap into my operational costs every second round.

yeah i was still pulling 1 1/4 # per light..but since switching my bloom booster to massive i am up to 1.75# per light...so figuring a bulb change would be nice and increase even further, which i know about bulb degradation, im just a lazy cheap ass lol

haha

I've been hearing some incredible results from customer's about that MASSIVE. So much so I decided to pick a bottle up, going to try it this round.

Respect the honesty bro. Just curious though u say the hortis are more intense is that just lumens or does that include spectrum and par. Also is the the hps vs hps or mh vs mh? Again always respect u guys and Ur honesty is what sets u guys apart from others. For the record I've always liked ushios the best but genesis is whipping up on them.
