Good day growers!

Submersible Pumps
From aeroponic cloning machines and hydroponic reseviors, to compost tea brewers and simply watering your plants, submersible pumps have a plethora of uses in the grow room. Many of these uses unfortunately leave the pump filthy, or are rough on the impeller, which occasionally needs to be replaced.
Here is a run down of how to disassemble an Active Aqua submersible pump for cleaning or impeller replacement.

*Make sure your pump is turned off and unplugged before beginning*

Step 1: Completely unscrew impeller plug/flow adjustment knob and remove.

Step 2: Remove outer pump casing. No screws or anything, just give it a yank and it will pop off. Mine was a little stubborn. Just grip it and rip it!

Step 3: Once the casing is off and plug removed, you can slide out the inner foam. This is where the majority of the gunk these pumps collect resides. Give it a good rinse and squeeze. As long as you rinse it out good enough, you can use some mild dish soap or bleach water mixture to clean/sanitize the foam.

Step 4: Give the round ring a 1/4 turn counter clockwise to remove. This releases the impeller.

Step 5: Gently remove impeller. Only magnetic forces are holding it in, so it pulls right out.

Now would be a good time to thoroughly wash the rest of your pump out. Behind the impeller and along the inside edges collects a fair amount of muck depending on how long it has needed a cleaning.

Once the pump has been cleaned and rinsed (or impeller changed if that's all you are doing) simply follow the steps backwards to reassemble. Now you are back in action growing those beautiful nuggets!

Hope this helps some of you out who have not needed to disassemble or clean their submersible pump before. Happy gardening and grow on!
