WooHoo! New (to me) Porn Mag:bookworm:. I've read half of it so far and most of it is already covered in his book in fact, some of the content is pretty old as he has already changed it in his book 2nd edition. It is still a good read.

Week 5 of flower, TLO -The Rev style update:

Things are still going pretty well but the afghanis are showing some tacoing on the top leaves. Those two plants are the only ones showing this. From everything I have read, this is most likely from heat stress, They are the tallest and most aggressive and pretty close to the light. My temps are 70f lights-off and 80f lights-on with 50% rh. The canopy temps get as high as 86f using an infrared thermometer. I did lower the strength of the fans (turned the new one off and lowered the other to medium) and I thought about removing the led light to lower the temps a couple degrees but it really seems to help out the light intensity in the corners so I left it on for now. I still might- maybe after this next week. Less light the last couple weeks could imitate nature especially with only the redder spectrum of HPS running, so I have read. I can't do much else about it, I could probably squeak out 3 more inches but it would take some work and I would have to remove the plants from the tent which could cause damage so, I am letting them ride.

I'll be making the Rev's Finishing Tea this evening to give to them tomorrow evening .

Those buds are looking pretty nice at 5 weeks. Did you use the fertilizer spikes as recommended by Rev?

Yes, I used 2 nitrogen spikes and 2 flowering spikes per container plus all the layers. I set myself up a little production line when building the containers.

Why have I not been getting updates from this thread? So annoying.....

Lookin' good @goingtoguano Keep that shit up! You're what, five weeks in now? If I could offer one suggestion, I'd recommend trying to get your humidity levels down to 40%. Having said that, I don't think it matters a whole hell of a lot. My RH fluctuates between 35 and fifty percent and I don't really care haha! And my temps vary between 72 and 82 degrees (it's been SUPER-HOT down here in the SFV lately) and I don't worry about it too much. Just chopped my Clusterfunk today, gonna be chopping the rest of the plants over the course of the next seven to ten days, maybe fewer, maybe more. I dunno. But it's all gonna turn out real fucking bomb.

Keep those pics coming! I'm so intrigued!

Nice. Yeah, I was debating the layers (in addition to the spikes), as it just seemed like overkill. But who am I to judge! Looks like it's going great for you.

So did you build the layered and spiked containers and up-pot at the same time you switched to flower? Also, did you add flowering spikes at same time? I can't remember if he recommended doing all at once, or waiting for a few weeks in to flower to add the flower spikes.

Thanks! I'm about to mix up my soil in preparation for a grow starting in about 6 weeks.

Perception, no I think I built the final container around week 6 of veg and went the full 8 weeks veg. It was time for it's second transplant. This made it difficult to figure out which ones were female/male as not all of them were showing sex and I didn't want to waste soil, or time, or softpots, or space in the tent. I only had so much soil ready to go. I did ultimately build containers for some males that I pulled only a couple weeks later. Both batches of his soil I have made, I multiplied all his amounts by 1.5 because that would start with 1 full bag of ffof (1.5 cu.ft.). However I did start my container building with a possible male just in case I made mistakes which I did. There were a couple "oh shit, I forgot the top layer, or the mycorrhizae" moments but, by the end, I had it down- and I was running out of soil quick.
Also, don't use any Manure in his soil mix or his layers. He has them listed in his recipes but later on in the book he says he no longer uses them because of fungus gnats. Luckily for me, I couldn't find any for my first batch because everywhere I went they said it was still frozen outside -then afterwards I saw where he says he no longer uses it (imo, he should have fixed this in his recipes but I ain't bitchin ). I used his soil straight for the first two container sizes and put a little mulch on top only.
Yes, you want to add the spikes near the outside of the container during transplant so you don't stab the freshly transplanted roots.

Come on, @goingtoguano Let's see some close-ups haha.

Re: the manure thing: that is definitely something I noticed when I mixed up a batch of the Rev's soil, which I guess was his first version. That dirt just got INFESTED with gnats, I had to let it dry out way more than I would've ordinarily liked just to get rid of them. Good to know that his latest version kind of eliminates that problem. I do have to say, though, that the soil mix I've been using for the last two years (not the Rev's) doesn't attract gnats at all. I have a big ol' tub of my mix sitting in the garage, just re-amended yesterday as a matter of fact, but I never see gnats in the mix I use.

And again, @goingtoguano Close-ups haha. The people wanna know!

Ok Minitiger, I took some quick shots with my phone for ya.
I discovered I have Nanners on my Kush!!! I picked like six of the bastards off. Now I'm going to worried. :sweating:

First picture is the big afghan bud -and it is tremendous. Love her.
then:
Himilayan kush -with nanners!
Another afghan that is awesome.
Kiwi Gangster that is sexy but I wish it was bigger.
Lemon OG -nice and frosty with good size buds.
Northern lights- kind of lacking in size but its ok.

Looking REALLY good. I see how some of the leaves are canoeing like you mentioned, but some aren't. Must just be strain dependent - some of them liking the rich nutrients, and some not.

@goingtoguano On the nanners... are you running your dark cycle during daytime hours? Any light outside the tent during dark cycle? I was running dark cycle during daytime, and there was a window in room. I found some pinhole light leaks in my tent. Going to run dark cycle at night from now on.

One of my plants went pretty hermie, but I have to say... I'm happy because it was my best plant and I got 75 feminized seeds off of it!

Thanks Perception. Yes, I run my dark hours during the daytime and, yes I have pin holes too and, yes I think I probably am to blame. I try to not go to the basement during the day (so not to turn on the lights) but last weekend I had to do a brake job and my tools and compressor are in the basement so the lights were on/off many times so that may have done it. I haven't even thought about the windows (they are just small basement windows). To be honest, I was hoping pin holes wouldn't be big enough to be a problem-..same with the passive vents at the bottom. I have some furnace-type carbon filter stuff over those to help block light and filter the incoming air but they still let some light through. From here on until harvest, I have a strict no basement policy during the day (unless I get over-ruled lol).

I think your probably right on the strain and the soil nutes causing the taco/canoeing. A friend of mine with 20+ years experience came over last night and said the same thing.

I am sorry to say(really I am), but those 75 seeds you got from a hermie will probably just be more hermie seeds and, they should be destroyed so they don't continue to potentially contaminate genetics.

Week 6 of flower, TLO -The Rev style update:

Things are still going pretty well but the Kush/nanner problem has me worried sick. I have plucked at least 20 of them off of her. I have been reading everything I can find about it and it seems to be a split decision about plucking or chopping. Tonight I am going to remove her from the tent and go over every square inch of her and depending on what I see, I may chop. I don't want to end up pollinating the others. I hope its not too late already. ugh!:sweating:
What do you think? Any opinions of hermie/nanners at this stage?

Get rid of it. You don't want to waste all that time and effort only to have your whole crop seeded-up, ya know? I've been fortunate enough to have never had a single plant herm on me (and I'm knocking on wood big-time right now haha), but I would remove any plant that did if it ever happened. 20's a lot, too. I MIGHT leave a plant in my garden if I saw just a few, but 20's too many. And that's not including the 6 you picked off earlier, right? Either way, that's a lot.

I cover all my windows with panda film and that seems to work out pretty well. Used to run my light at night, but when I moved into my new house, the room that I'm growing in is basically one big window. I had to cover the shit out of like a 12' x 8' window with the panda film. It took me a couple days to find all the light leaks and cover those with tape, it was a serious process (but I'm pretty lazy haha). Even still, I've been running my light during the day with my latest grow. It's really hot where I moved to, deep in the Valley, so between the light and the fact that I have to run my AC all day just so I can stay cool, I figured it'd be best to just run the light during the day. I don't want my AC on 24/7, ya know?

Ugh.... Been trimming and jarring up that Clusterfunk all day today and only wore a glove on one hand. My scissor hand is freaking covered in trichomes, so forgive me if I'm not making any sense right now haha. I think I might be a little fucking baaaaaaaked haha.

Anyway, looking good, dude! Keep those pics coming!

Thanks Minitiger,

I just got done trimming her/it up. Oh well, I pretty much came to that decision this morning and when I looked one more time at lights-on, her/it's fate was sealed. Thanks for confirming. I haven't seen any of the other girls pollinated or weird looking yet. I gave the area of the plants that surrounded it a spray mist of H20 in case.

As soon as this grow is over I will make sure I have no light leaks. I never even checked. I am such a noob! Are pin holes that big of a problem? -whats the easiest way to seal them in a tent, tape? I thought about running the light during the day but I feel that I will worry too much being at work with the light on.
It's been fairly hot and humid here lately but I am in Maine so, it is not even in the same realm of heat as you. I don't even have AC lol (ok, thats a lie. I have a window unit in the bedroom).

..and you make sense to me. I am feeling pretty good myself :)

Those colas are looking real nice.

I don't know how much light is too much - seems like everyone argues over that. I just zipped myself inside my tent and waited for a couple minutes, then decided which little pin holes I thought could be a problem. I have electrical tape over one, and would always lay a back pack against my bottom zipper where I knew there was a big leak.

Yeah, the pinholes aren't a big deal, unless there's a window in your basement that's letting a lot of light in. If that's the case, I would definitely cover the window up with something. Like @Perception said, just sit in your tent when the light's out but all your fans and stuff are running and see how much light gets in. There could be a tear or something that you're not aware of. I ALWAYS tear up my tent when I st it up haha, so I just use Gorilla Tape or whatever it's called to seal the leaks. Electric tape doesn't work, it still lets light in, but electrical tape or any kind of black tape does the trick.

Ugh.... Started trimming my two The Fuzzes today, still have about eight or ten hours left to go and my back already hurts. I hate trimming...

@goingtoguano From your first post in this thread, I see that you are using R/O water. I'm curious what kind of R/O filter you bought, and how you use it? ie: Does it take like an hour to fill a 5gal bucket, or do you just pour as needed and it's pretty fast? I'm just curious how the whole operation worked out.

Also, have you checked the ppm of your R/O water?

My tap water has low alkalinity... around ~45ppm (I have a meter), with a perfect 6:1 calcium/magnesium ration (per city's public water reports). I think I'm just going to run my tap water as-is, but am tossing the R/O idea around.

This is the unit I bought off amazon:
https://www.amazon.com/Portable-Reverse-Osmosis-Filtration-POQ-4B-50/dp/B00GJCE2X4
It only makes 50 gallon per day so it makes approximately 2 gallons an hour (and bypasses twice as much waste water down the drain). I used a piece of wire to hang it on the inside of my utility sink so if it leaks, it won't be a disaster. I fill a 5 gallon buck and keep an air stone on it until I use it and then I get it running again and set a timer. I have forgot to set the time a couple times and had it run all night Whoops.
It sounds like your water is pretty good and I would definitely try it but watch out for chlorine if it's public water. I guess you can let it sit out (with an air stone for best results) to get rid of it.
My well water was 120ppm and ph 8.3 so I dealt I should do something. The RO shows 0 ppm.
