So I plan on making two 8'x4x1 soma style grow beds with a total of 64 Cu. Ft. of soil (which should weigh about 5,000 lbs) in my basement. Does anyone have any tips on how to transport all this soil other than the old-fashioned way?

Find a wheel-barrow or similar device that you can clear your doorway with.

I could also see creating a ramp on your stairs with wood or something like that and rigging up a large rubbermaid with a rope to pull the soil upstairs.

Just think outside the box dude. Bending over is what will kill you--remove that from the equation and you won't have any trouble.

If possible, spread the dirt out in another, less traveled area of the basement for the day when you change your plan and want to refill the holes.

Otherwise, stockpile beer and Vicodin and roll lotsa fatties and get to work. :D

beds really arent too bad to empty. the roots hold the coco/soil together pretty well, so just let it dry pretty good before harvest (which i do anyways), then take a drywall knife and cut it into workable chunks. when its dry its really not that heavy, i stuff a whole 3x3 bed into 1 garbage bag and walk it out. the key is getting it dry first, there is no point in carrying around extra water weight.

the only rigged up solution i can think of would be to grab an old whole house vac off craigslist. put that bitch outside, run a line to your room, break up the soil real good, and just suck that shit right out. i use a vacuum to clean whats left in the bottom of the beds ive ran, so it should work pretty good if you break up the roots well first.

100 trips loaded down the steps, will do your body good. You must not have a walkout??? May sure it's dry before you start. Take your time, you can do it in a day.. i'd help but......
get cracking rip.

Run by home depot and pick up a crew and 5 shovels that shit will be out in no time haha

thank you for not being racist......

hashrip, i wouldnt use anybody but yourself. security is #1. just take your time. im liking the rubbermaid tub on the stairs, also letting it dry and cutting cubes is a great idea. you got some options now, good luck

Hope you weren't insinuating that i am racist, was just saying there is hard workers looking for work. He asked for the easiest way, if i could help a less fortunate person feed their family by giving then a little work then it's a win win imo.

maybe get coco and 4 beds and just reuse 2 every other month? hit them with hygrozyme during flush ans the roots should be all gone fast.

64 cubic feet is nothing. use buckets the old fashioned way. You can do that yourself in a couple hours.

should be about 30 trips with 2 buckets at a time filled 1/2 way.

Also, reuse your soil. Just get out most of the roots by rakin and shakin and then replant.

bucket brigade is gonna be the most efficent way . dont fill them to the top cuz if youre doing it alone yours arms and back will be aching fast. wheelbarrowing it isnt an option if youre going up and down stairs.

A dolly, some totes, and a few 2x6's to run a ramp on the stairs. Be sure to put lids on the totes, and use some sort of strapping to hold them in place while you heft the shits up the stairs.
