Muck, it's a citrine!

Do you guys read a lot of geology books, or what? One I enjoyed that isn't exactly a textbook kinda book is Assembling California, by John McPhee. He's written a few others that I want to read, like the Basin and Range, and...now I forget the others.
Seamaiden its never to late to get started!!! you have to start somewhere... everything I have learned has been out doing it, the internet, or prospectors ;)
It's not a matter of getting started, I did it since a kid. I can't get out and hike anymore, not since doing my knee. :o I'll live vicariously through all of you!

Everybody's pics are looking killer, going to try and do a Diamond dig this spring in ARKANSAS at the www.CraterofDiamondsstatepark.com ..they have a large stone found almost yearly, not only diamonds though.in 2014 a 6.19 carat was found.last year there was a total ct weight at 121.02 ,that's from 585 stones.Hopefully it will be fun for the rest of family.

I agree! polisting machine with all the diamond discs are 300 new around 100 used super rad! I can get stoned and just gut and polish for hours

Damn this makes me wanna go to CO to go rock hunting, I love that show Prospectors, obviously loved rocks before then. All started one lazy weekend at a music festival, a large amount of psychedelics, a pocket of money, and some hippy with a case of the sweetest mineral, gems, and stones.

We have some gems around here in Maine, but most if not all is claimed, and finding anything worth taking home is tough, Mt. Mica whihc produced some of the worlds best Watermelon Tourmaline is still open and producing i belive. Theres also beryl and Aqua around the state.
I love me a slice of watermelon tourmaline

Nice iCristal, where do you go hunting around Me? I've always wanted to go looking for some aqua's, during the summer there's a few mines that are open to public. Not sure how hard they let you go In terms of digging, I don't wanna sift a pile of rocks, I'm trying to go deep and find some pegmatite and get a undisturbed pocket.

Diamonds you say? What does an expedition like this run? The Opal mines and agate mines out in Kern are $2 a head
We have opal in California? I have a thing for tourmaline and opal. I've got a fire opal ring that is to die for. Surface or subterranean?
Some tourmaline green, pink, watermelon and black, nothing of gem quality from my rock hounding. Bits and pieces of other gems stones and things from the local area mining dumps.

I have a pink and green tourmaline bracelet that's one of my favorites (bought after the robbery). I see some gems in there that look just like what was used for this bracelet. All gold wire, twisted and looped, with a hook closure instead of a clasp. I can show a photo if you like for inspiration. :)

Well the mine where these were picked up is basically across the road from me on top of the mountain. We were friends with the previous owners and got to go watch there operation and dig for some gems one summer. The owner now does not allow anyone there, they have guards. I will let you know when I get a chance on open places, not many left anymore.
