Compost Tea vs. top dressing. I enjoy making a compost tea for my young plants in their one gallon containers. I had intended on using compost tea throughout the grow. However, I currently use between 500-600 gallons of water every time I water, and making compost tea in quantity enough is overwhelming so I have opted to top dress with worm casts, fish meal and kelp, then each time I water, small amounts will soak down. I know it's not a brewed tea, but it should work over time.
All I want to add now is a top dress of bone meal in time to aid during flowering. Then I am ready to add a mulch layer over the holes and smell the flowers!

Yeah it can be very overwhelming trying to keep up with tea's on big applications. :)

Sounds like a great top dressing.

As you spoke of you are correct small amounts will soak down and you will continue to add to your biology. Just remember Worm Castings think of like different grades of meat.. Don't skimp on the little things if you can.. Good EWC will pay off massively with a nice top dressing etc..

Sure you can add any EWC and see results, but if possible try to get the freshest and cleanest.. :)

Looks like you are going to have an amazing grow.. Looking forward to keeping up..

Your plants look on point Budbogart! Worm cast top dressing, can't go wrong with that. Mulching is great, not sure if you even need to wait but you seem like you got a handle on your grow. Probably save quite a bit of water by mulching, and then maybe compost teas would be easier to use if you wanted to do it. With a good mulch layer your compost tea would go farther, at least I think so. It would soak in nice, you would probably only need few gallons a plants, maybe water with it after the soil is a little damp. You could just do it once or twice also, maybe early flower and mid flower. But, looks to me like you may be fine either way. Glad I caught up on your blog.

Worm castings, a shortcoming for sure. My friends all have worm bins, I use bagged, usually roots organic. I have looked at having worms, but haven't gotten started. We don't produce much food waste here, hot summers and cold winters, etc., have kept me from pulling the trigger. Thanks for encouragement. I've gotta admit to being very pleased with the progress to date, knock on hemp trunks.

So last night I found two branches on my BarneyChronic Thunder broke off at the trunk with decay running up the inside of the branch. Helps keep things real, a long season ahead of us.
Another concern is that three of the holes are retaining moisture far longer than the others. One hole feels too wet in my estimate but all three plants look healthy enough. My concern is that I have an underground seasonal creek that flows just under the orchard and somehow that "must" be attributing to the wetness.

My 88 cent high tech water timer, girl topping the 5 foot mark, and a plant...I apologize, I will need to write down what plants are in the pictures!
Have a great day!

Some huge happy girls.. Nice job Bud

Just keep an eye out for any under watering/over watering symptoms on plants attached to a timer system.. May have to hand water once if they fall out of sync.. :)

Thanks for the update

Happy Growing

Hi @MrsBudBogart my wife is the same way. If it crawls, jumps, slithers or any movement of any sorts kill it on the spot. Welcome to the farm :) hope you enjoy your stay!!

Check to make sure you didn't bury your stalks a tiny bit to deep and have started to begin to get some stalk rot where the soil touches the base of the stalk. I have it happen sometimes and the plants it happens to often times stop drinking the water and stay wet for long period of time. Everything looks great. My fiancé requires I kill all spiders.

Thanks so for the info, great to have you stop by.

I have gotta be honest here, lol. My watering system consists of that little timer that tells me to switch the hose to a new hole. I sit and blaze while I watch the timer. I use a hose with 5 gpm flow discharging thru a two stacked plastic pots which completely diffuses the gush of water without slowing it down nor damage the soil. It's a good time to give the plants whatever tucking, nipping, etc. they need.
Hey, thanks for caring! Bud

Hellish Neighbor Update:
As you might know, the sheriff did a low fly over my legal number of plants. I suspected the adjacent land owner, an 80 year old retired cop of calling it in.
Twice in the past he has messed with my gate. The second time, I went to talk to him about it and he pulled a gun on me, out on the road.
Well, the last two times I left the ranch for the night, I came home to find my padlock unlocked. The first time I passed it off as my mistake. The second time I know I double checked the padlock had latched. The list of possible suspects is extremely short. I rarely leave the ranch overnight yet the last two times someone noticed and fucked with it.
I live 1 1/2 miles down a private road, at the end. Twice before someone messed with my gate. Both times old neighbor admitted to police it was him.
So when I talked to him he pulled a gun. When I called the police about him pulling a gun, they responded as if I had assaulted an old retired police officer, despite video evidence.
So, obviously I will change the padlock. Other than that....gun in face or police rushing to the aid of a brother in blue, during grow season. Any other suggestions? I should have made a gun in face/or police swarm survey question, lol.

I want to welcome MrsBudBogart, my lovely wife and best friend. She has become a great farmers wife, going out early in the morning to tend the plants with me. If only I could get her out there while I sleep in, lol.

Neighbor wars are the worst. Don't get it one is my advice. But since your already in one. Make a peace offering. Is there anything he likes or enjoys that is rather cheap you could drop off at his house. I would say over half of the time someone gets the cops called on them it's because of a disgruntled neighbor.

Everyone got a good watering this morning with a nice micro and calcium misting.
I decided to do exploratory surgery on my only Barney Chronic Thunder. The surgery did not go well. Warning, the following pics are graphic.

The roots looked healthy, the Soil under the plant felt and smelled perfect, the crown was buried a bit but no signs of rot. The problem seemed to be stemming from the original root ball and soil from the initial potting. It was unusually damp, the orig. soil would not clean out of the root ball, maybe from being so root bound before transplanting. I would definitely advise waiting on germinating seeds two or three weeks next year, maybe April 1 st.
Well, wife is home for the weekend. Hope you all have a great one.
