One of my 2 Maui wowi plants seems to have got a couple leaves with black or purple in them. I'm not sure if this is the plant itself or some deficiency. I have not used anything special so far with my grow, but do plan to start using flowering fertilizer soon. If anyone can tell me if this is normal or not would be great! Thanks

Is there any other info I should be posting? With the amount of rain we have had here I have not been watering them much. I was using miracle grow at the start of the season bi weekly but have not used it in about a month. Been LSTing and have not topped. PH lvl of my water I have been using is around 6.2 to 6.5. Location is an hour west of Toronto.

Thanks

I've never seen anthrocyans all collected in one spot. Did you have a cold snap?
Other than that, they look fine.

I really can’t tell by the photo but they kind a look like bugs to me

No cold snaps here maybe 1 night under 10 decgree C. Most nights 15 +. To me it.looks like color change but I was not sure if it was a deficiency

I don't think they are bugs. Have a loupe coming tomorrow. I will check when I get it.

If it’s not bugs I’m thinking it’s some absorption of some thing in your soil or water possibly and the plant took it up through it’s nutrient up-Take then displayed it in your leaves 😂 kinda like food coloring for flowers

Ok I could see that. The soil I used was crap and could very well of had some sort of die in it. I just find it odd I'm only noticing it recently. I've marked it for now and will keep an eye on it. I was just concerned that if it was not nutes and was some disease I wanted to take care of it sooner then later.

Anthocyanins (also anthocyans; from Greek: ἄνθος (anthos) "flower" and κυάνεος/κυανοῦς kyaneos/kyanous "dark blue") are water-soluble vacuolar pigments that, depending on their pH, may appear red, purple, blue, or black. Food plants rich in anthocyanins include the blueberry, raspberry, black rice, and black soybean, among many others that are red, blue, purple, or black. Some of the colors of autumn leaves are derived from anthocyanins.[1][2]

This is kind of an anomaly to me... I know there has been progression of info I'm just not up to date on it... I believe it is a virus that is transmitted by a certain bug.

Let me find some of the older links if I can.

Only this is not buds. I'm 100% this is not a good things here.
I hear you but, I don't know. I say take a sample and send it for analysis. If you can afford it that is. It looks normal, just really intense. But I've seen some extreme colors in many plants, I can't think that weed is only green.

I agree 100% I would definitely have it tested if you can afford.

There is a breed of Orchid that does that, just as intense. Some tulip variations also I think. Lettuce comes in a variety of colors.
Yep. Get it tested and share the results with us please. But keep it growing.

could it be a magnesium deficiency? i know when the plant was young i pulled off a few purple steam leaves. that being said im pretty confident there are no other signs on the plant of a magnesium deficiency currently.

I'd be lying if I said I thought it's anything other than a virus or infection. I think some have reported them growing out of it or corrected somehow. Wish I had thw answers brother.

Then there is the fact I'm not always right so hopefully that's the case here.
