Doing it like an Animal!

High! I'm Animal and I like to grow my own weed to smoke, make hash, and make rosin. Been doing this a very long time flying under the radar
I've gotten away from doing grow journals online but with a new room configuration and the addtion of UV I want to document this for future reference and adjustments


I keep it simple, organic, healthy, and use gear and techniques proven time and time again to work very well for me. My grows are typically drama free with no pests or disease and hopefully not too many brain fart fuck ups along the way. I don't get scientific or anything. Though my room has some really cool and effective tech, at the end of the day it's just basic gardening 101.

This is my Summer '21 grow, started July 10, and I'm about 3 or 4 weeks in.
11 plants total right now. 3 strains all from Greenpoint. There's Sundae Batter fem, Banana Fruit Cake fem, and Texas Butter reg.
My grow footprint is a 4' wide x 9' long x 8' high space inside a 10'x10' room

California Lightworks 550 LEDs w/ spectrum/timer controller
CLW UV on a lightrail mover
Remote Control light winches w/ ratchet rope safety catches
1 gallon airpots for veg
7 gallon solid wall ribbed pots for bloom
Deionized RO water with 24/7 UV sterilization and oxygen infusion in a 55 gallon storage barrel
Digital temp/rh/co2 monitor
Blue Lab truncheon meter
3 drop water pH test kit
Five 7" clip on and one 18" wall mount Air King fans
4" inline air intake with bug & dust filter controlled by a cyclestat timer

indoor water storage tank with aeration and UV filtering. I do a TDS and pH test just to make sure everything is clean but no adjustments are made to pH. If there's is a reading on the TDS meter then it's time for new filters to get that # to zero

that's funny you mention the press bags... i recently got out my tumbler and ran some texas butter through it... i was gonna get out some bags and press it. then i saw your post!!! it's been years since i pressed sift in bags... do you have any temp/time suggestions at all? and i never used a pre press either for the bags of sift, but i was wondering how much you were putting in a bag? i remember they would split if i loaded too much in... but like i said it's been a really long time since i tried it and i'd like to try again... the bags i have are small 2.5" x 4" and are 120 micron.

i have some old sift that was still in my tumbler to practice with... i must have forgot about it and packed it away with it full of kief!!!! hahaha

I haven;t been pressing any kief lately in the bags, just ground up buds but one thing about doing kief runs is it comes out dewaxed and will turn to crumble after it dries out and with the tumbled buds you can still squish 'em to get even more wax extract.
But yeah I have a had few kief runs go sideways on me with blown bags. That sucks but I think I found the remedy. Like you my bags are 2.5" x 4" and I pack them fairly tight but leave the top inch of the bag empty so I can fold all four corners over and do the bottle tech press. It gives enough room in the bag for expansion without blowing while also doing a good job keeping all the material inside and nearly 100% extracted. I've been going at 200 but it's too warm on my Nugsmasher so next I'm gonna be squishing in the 160-185 range to get lighter color and not so dark & waxy. The new bags I have are from Green Canamaster and claim to not only be very strong and not blow out but can also be reused so I'll see how that goes.
I have most of this weekend off so I'm gonna try to get time in for some squishin and bbqin'

So far everything has gone well and as planned with a few adjustments here and there but one glaring issue is plant support so I need to come up with a trellis system, likely a two tier system, because the yoyos, stakes, wire, and velcro fixes are not holding up well and needs to be corrected the next time I decide to grow this many plants at one time.

Weather lately has been ideal. Nice and cool with very low RH cycling thru the room.
I'm wondering if the ozone gen up in the attic is working because out in my driveway I can smell that sweet stinky skunk aroma of a weed garden and I know it's mine. It's especially loud in the morning hours.
As far as the UV goes it looks to benefit indica dominant hybrids more so than sativa from what I'm seeing. But yeah between the UV, microherds, Trinity, and cool ripening temps some of these ladies are loading up on the resin and oil production to a crazy level I don't think I've seen in many Greenpoint strains. For seeds that cost around $40/pack these girls are performing like they're from $300 packs. This is gonna be one seriously potent crop!

Haven't seen @Moe.Red for a while bit he did some really interesting testing with UV. Maybe take a peak at some of his threads. You seem very knowledgeable so thought it may interest ya.

Last I remember It kinda seemed the the increase of THCA came at a cost of reduction of CBD, CBG or CBN. I can't remember if it was all or a one of them.

Makes absolute sense the sativa would show more response in my mind as they originated in locations closer to the equator and higher UV exposure

Hey brother that support problem is a gooden to have!! I remember having to engineer alot of support stuff, hell I used to half to hang a leash off the walls and other angles to try and keepem some what upright. Bigger crops are great until they need to Be managed by some off the wall fly engineering “🕸” is the way I did it .
yeah a double net would probably help quite a bit, I can see your wheels turning right now, I don’t know if it was you or someone else, but they had to top net on a winch so he could dial the height right in to that sweet spot!!

Oh hey speaking of wheels, did you get you truck yet?
I’m still about 3 weeks out before mine even gets to see the body shop, the guy had to let a couple of his guys go huntin. But it’s giving me some time to look into a few updates/upgrades!! Here’s one I’m looking at for the front bumper……

Yeah it’s Spendy but I don’t have to pay for it all. Been looking at another one on eBay that has a spot for a winch for about the same price, and with my luck lately a winch might not be a bad idea I’m also gonna do something different with the grill.

Biggest take away is get good UV lights, apply them correctly best as possible, and hope for good results It's such a new frontier to indoor growing I think it will be like the early days of LED when junk lights were giving good lights a bad rap it's gonna come down to people trying it out and see for themselves until there's more concrete *this is how to use it* info out there.

I'm working thru harvest this weekend. Crazy how much bud is in there now that I'm clearing some branches out. IDK what I was thinking with some of my support solutions but yeah if supporting big ass heavy buds is my biggest problem for a grow then that's a very good problem to have I have an idea about what I'll do next and it's looking like a hybrid SCROG and yoyo combo will work best for what I wanna do

It's totally blacked out and looks so baddass.
Friday I took a ton of old growing gear to sell at a hydroshop that buys and sells used grow gear. There were a few other growers there + the owner and they all offered to buy it lol
So far I've already ordered and installed a bull bar on the front and WeatherTech floor liners for the cab. Eventually I'll want to upgrade the sound system but what it has for now is solid. Looks like the hitch and wiring w/ install is gonna run me close to $400 but after selling all my old LED rail lights and hydro system it'll only cost me $40 out of pocket.
Next weekend I'm gonna spend Saturday morning building a dog platform in the access cab. I found a really good plan for it on a Tacoma forum with this basic idea with measurements and materials to use. Only difference is instead of carpet I'm gonna use anti-fatigue flooring, the same stuff I put down in my grow room for flooring

Those trucks are Solid as well, and I’m not the least bit surprised that guys want to buy, what year was that again? The hole blacked out deal is bad ass!! I went white when I got this truck, the Scratches show up too much on black paint for what are use my truck for, and they still show up with white just not as bad. So yeah the wife did good I’m sure you played a small part in that, if not even better!!!
That bumper is a bummer back ordered just can’t catch a break these days. I’ll look into it and see if will land here before the work starts.. anyway nuf about that shit. I’m gonna be smoking a Turkey bird for that day, and I’ll prolly be steelin a Meat churches recipe. There’s another couple of other guys YouTube channels that I’m looking at as well, not sure if I’m gonna go spatchcock or just traditional, should be good Either way, how’s the new grill been treating you guys?
And I’ll be watching for that new screen deal your gonna be working on!!

This is my second black truck. First one was a Nissan Frontier about 15 years ago so I think I kinda have a thing for black trucks. Had a few white cars or SUVs over the years too. I like those to have black wheels too for a cool stormtrooper look.
I haven't thought about turkey day yet but spatchcock is on the radar. That method is getting very popular lately. I've been trying to perfect a spatchcock voodoo chicken recipe for several months on my pellet grill. Got the idea from the cast iron people I buy from but the voodoo seasoning is all Meat Church. It's good but I can't quite get the skin nice and crispy. It's a work in progress

Actually ya know my truck has a great side effect in getting people to get out of my way. I'm not a dick when I drive or anything but some people like to bully other drivers in cars, not yielding right of way, tailgating and that sort of thing. There's about a 7" clearance under the platform that will be perfect for an underseat subwoofer & amp Maybe after football season I'm gonna get into it more but I wanna take a trip to best buy and also hit up a local car stereo shop for a consultation on how to best upgrade the sound system. I have an idea about what I want starting with a Pioneer multimedia receiver. Then it will be new door & dash speakers and the add on of a sub w/ amp. I'm just not sure what's good anymore since it's been so long since I've messed with car audio gear. Most of all I want it to look like I have nothing until I crank that sucker up so I want the amp and sub hidden and door speakers to fit like stock. I also wanna make sure the back up camera can still work. CD and DVD is a non issue since I don't use those, all my music is converted to digital now and I don't even need Sirius in it because I can stream that thru my phone and bluetooth.
I doubt I can black out the lights with tint or lens covers but I do have my eye on headlight kits that will convert to LED and have blacked out housing with clear lenses. But man they're expensive at over $700!

Well I got thru to harvest and did very well this haul. Drying tent is at full capacity!
This harvest I'm gonna give Grove Bags a try. I ordered thirty 1oz size bags. They're made for curing weed w/out using humidity packs or the need to burp and the plastic is coated like parchment paper so everything stays on the buds and you don't get resin falling off and left in the bag or jar. Just another attempt at getting that perfect cure and the cost is about the same as vacuum bags

Now it's time to start tearing out some things like the light mover, put new string or wire in the winches, hang the lights with better spread and height capability, and build that screen I want. Already excited to do this project especially after getting a new drill! Dewalt had a crazy one day sale at it's amazon store a couple weeks ago and I scored a new 20v driver for only $80. Regular price is $209. It came with two batteries so no more having to stop in the middle of a project to charge my battery. Should make the rebuild go a little easier.

Some post harvest musings...

11 plants was about 3 too many. I got greedy and the result was bigger plants choking out a couple runtier causing them to under perform. Going forward I think 8 is more than enough to be comfy and nothing gets choked off. I can quantify it in the yield per plant info as a couple went over 6oz while one plant was 1oz and another less than 2oz. I'd rather not have those two low yielders and have the heavy yielder hit 8-9oz.

My GPW is on the low end. I calculated it with my lights at max power however I did not go to max power until 3 weeks before harvest. My power draw slowly escalates during a grow so it's hard to pinpoint exact GPW so I just go by max power divided by grade A ganja. No trim or flower for hash is included. So with that my GPW was .79GPW.
If I included what I use to make hash then it's .94GPW.
If I calculate total haul divided by wattage used most which is around 1000 watts then my GPW would be around 1.35 GPW.
Main thing with that though is do the coffers get filled after a haul? If the answer is yes then GPW is just a meaningless number that can easily be tweeked to look average or great, depending on what calculations are used but I still like to know if I'm growing efficiently or not so GPW is good info to have for that.

So here's where I'm at. After all the A grade was bagged up to cure this is what was left to make rosin. Doesn't look like much here but all together this is 186 grams for extraction

Using 1oz Grove bags I filled 13 bags with weight ranging from about 65 grams to over 80 grams so it's possible to fit much more than one oz in these bags. One thing I love is the bags have a gusset bottom so they stand up. This makes for very efficient storage. Now the fridge is well stocked with fresh stash, ready to smoke stash, a stash of shrooms, and most important... a stash of Citrus Cooler Gatorade

The final numbers

Overall I'm pleased. Very pleased really. Over 2lbs hauled in about 100 days start to finish with a soil/water/electricity cost of around $400. Pretty sure everything I bought for this grow that can be used again like lights paid for itself on the first grow.

The best part of growing is yet to come. No need to smoke any right now so it'll get a chance to cure for a spell. The extract bud though is already being processed. Here's some early work off the Nugsmasher using 120 micron, 7 gram bags from NS, squished at 165 for 4:20

you were talking about your new impact driver, i picked one of those dewalts up a while back and then in less than one week i found a badass $300 dewalt impact in a dumpster find. it must have been owned by a drywaller, the dust mixed with the grease inside and made it like cement and the handle was cracked. after a good cleaning and some R/C tire glue on the handle that thing is my go to driver. a brushless three speed for free!!!!! and now i have the other one i bought that has been brand new for like a year now!!! i love dumpster diving!!!!!

My city really dumped on me with that, Cancelled the veterans day parade due to flu yet they can have all sorts of music festivals, pride parades, and food & wine festival the same week for all the fancy pant yuppies but chose to shit on vets this week. This fucking woke bullshit needs to stop. Not sure why vets are all of the sudden on the cancel culture list but whoever the POS that's making it happen needs to be throat punched.

That was a really nice haul. Glad you like that pic haha! I've sampled some of it and it's really good. Haven't used my THC tester on anything since I still need to plug it into my pc and do a firmware update before it will work again. Once I do that and run a few tests I wanna send it out to you so you can play with it.
So probably in the next 4 weeks or so expect another package from me. Gonna throw in some of these Grove bags and other goodies too.
The only strain this round I had experience with prior to UV is Texas Butter and one strain is a sister of another I've grown before, Sundae Batter. Definitely seemed to up the trich loads and oil and I'm smelling some terps in there I hadn't smelled before. One plant smelled like coffee and tobacco. Should be named Truck Driver instead of Sundae Driver.

My squish game is really improving. Backing down to 165 is really helping me get some good quality, outstanding color, and not so waxy and unstable. 4:20 may be too long so I'm finding 3 mins may be better but 2mins is too short.
I'm getting a nice crumble wax more often now. I still need a tool to dab but if I need to use my fingers it's nice that it's not so gooey it sticks to my fingers and handles more like hash. I'm having some setbacks doing kief and cheapo bags so I'm leaning more to squishing flower and using the better quality bags in my stash. Nothing much more frustrating than getting a nice pile of dry sift for it to be mangled up in a blown bag.

That's so cool you found that Dewalt and got it working. Kinda wish you were closer because I bet all the stuff I've tossed over the years you coulda fixed hahaha!

no worries at all my brother... i really need to post something in my thread as well, probably been longer than you thats for sure!! haha i even had a couple harvests since i posted!!! one plant went all to squish.. i ran through about a third so far and i followed your lead on temps and times too. i started out at 145* because i didn't know how much different our rigs were. it was kinda runny and not formed right at that temp so i upped it 5* and it got better and then at 160 it totally changed and felt like the sweet spot, 165-170 it got a little dark so i went back to 160 for about four minutes. i am very happy with the results!!

This is my second black truck. First one was a Nissan Frontier about 15 years ago so I think I kinda have a thing for black trucks. Had a few white cars or SUVs over the years too. I like those to have black wheels too for a cool stormtrooper look.
I haven't thought about turkey day yet but spatchcock is on the radar. That method is getting very popular lately. I've been trying to perfect a spatchcock voodoo chicken recipe for several months on my pellet grill. Got the idea from the cast iron people I buy from but the voodoo seasoning is all Meat Church. It's good but I can't quite get the skin nice and crispy. It's a work in progress

There's about a 7" clearance under the platform that will be perfect for an underseat subwoofer & amp Maybe after football season I'm gonna get into it more but I wanna take a trip to best buy and also hit up a local car stereo shop for a consultation on how to best upgrade the sound system. I have an idea about what I want starting with a Pioneer multimedia receiver. Then it will be new door & dash speakers and the add on of a sub w/ amp. I'm just not sure what's good anymore since it's been so long since I've messed with car audio gear. Most of all I want it to look like I have nothing until I crank that sucker up so I want the amp and sub hidden and door speakers to fit like stock. I also wanna make sure the back up camera can still work. CD and DVD is a non issue since I don't use those, all my music is converted to digital now and I don't even need Sirius in it because I can stream that thru my phone and bluetooth.
I doubt I can black out the lights with tint or lens covers but I do have my eye on headlight kits that will convert to LED and have blacked out housing with clear lenses. But man they're expensive at over $700!

Well I got thru to harvest and did very well this haul. Drying tent is at full capacity!
This harvest I'm gonna give Grove Bags a try. I ordered thirty 1oz size bags. They're made for curing weed w/out using humidity packs or the need to burp and the plastic is coated like parchment paper so everything stays on the buds and you don't get resin falling off and left in the bag or jar. Just another attempt at getting that perfect cure and the cost is about the same as vacuum bags

Now it's time to start tearing out some things like the light mover, put new string or wire in the winches, hang the lights with better spread and height capability, and build that screen I want. Already excited to do this project especially after getting a new drill! Dewalt had a crazy one day sale at it's amazon store a couple weeks ago and I scored a new 20v driver for only $80. Regular price is $209. It came with two batteries so no more having to stop in the middle of a project to charge my battery. Should make the rebuild go a little easier.

so i made chili the other day. i made it more of a "texas style" than my normal as you call it "soup"... i put beans in it though. so after dinner i asked the fam if they liked it and both of them agreed they liked it better than my normal chili... in my head i was like son of a B!!! my woman said it was more flavorful with the onions an peppers and stuff pureed up in the beef. i'm like great, now i gotta tell bandit!! hahaha

Turkey day was kinda odd around here. I had to work. Didn;t do anything until Saturday when I smoked a prime rib but on Thanksgiving I think we shared a brain at some point becuase I made a chili too!
No beans though...Ewwwww! Fucking soup maker hahahahaha!!
So ya wanna see what a real Texas chili looks like?

That's after 8 hours on the BBQ. I'm using an 8 quart, 12" cast iron Dutch Oven. Smoked with hickory and oak for the first 4 hours then I covered the pot for the final 4 hours.
There's 2lb ground prime chuck, 1lb hot breakfast sausage, 2lb of chopped chuck roast, 3 red onions, full head of garlic, 28oz of chopped tomatoes, 28oz of smashed tomatoes, 8oz of chipotles in adobo sauce, 12oz beer, and about 1/4 cup of Meat Church chili seasoning.
The key though is making it in that cast iron dutch oven and cooking it over fire for 8 hours at around 250*. Coulda used a slow cooker but you know me and how I like to use cast iron

Here's how I serve it. Sliced pepper, chopped white onion, and some cheese

In other news I got my squish down solid now and hope to press more today. I'll shoot a laser at my plates and see if it's a true 165 but yeah 165, 3 minutes, and 120-150mic bags are getting me a nice batter crumple every time

I've been doing my mods to my Taco. Had the hitch and wiring installed then got a Tyger armored step on the hitch. If somebody rear ends me my truck will do a fine job removing their radiator for them
Also ordered some baddass new headlights with blackout housing and led running lights

And I've been hitting up the sales for a new sound system. These came in yesterday and this morning I got a great deal on a 12" under seat sub and Rockford Fosgate amp this morning

I just wished Stoney lived near me so I could hire him for the install! With what parts and labor rates are going I think these guys are gonna pull my pants down on the installation.

And in other truck news...My dog platform!

Ya know it's funny you say that about the Boss head because it was a brand I was trying to avoid. It was the only Black Friday deal worth a damn but it may not even be that. Depends on the site but it has some very bad reviews on some and others like where I bought it they may have deleted bad reviews. I decided to start the return on it and went ahead and bought the Pioneer I really wanted. It's $129 more and the same type of media player with apple car play. I don't use cd's so as long as my phone can connect I can use Siri for shit like GPS and bluetooth for music and streaming Sirius

The Fosgate amp was a steal on ebay, $100 less than anybody + a $25 off coupon then the order was cancelled and refunded this afternoon due to being out of stock so that threw everything outta whack.
I started searching for a box with built in amp to try to make the instl a bit easier in case I end up doing it. Install costs are piling up with all the special Yota interface for the steering wheel control and other stuff already going up to $205 for the head + $130 for the speakers. Freakin robbery Man!!!
But anyways here's the powered sub I chose. It's a Rockville 12"

Man today's squish session turned more into learning session. I got fed up today after blowing a couple bags so I got online to figure out WTF I was missing. I found a video from Nugsmasher made after I bought my press and it really helped me figure the issue. It turned out to be simple math applying too much PSI. No duh right? But Dude I had no idea I was pressing too hard. Seemed impossible with a manual press but I followed the video advice and BOOM! Started to hit gushers and didn't blow a single bag!

The crazy thing is now I bring the plates together as normal and hit that firm resistance. From there, instead of jacking down on it until I'm worn out and thinking I might break something, I just gave it another pump 2/3 the way down and waited 3 mins. Pulled the paper and couldn't belive how much I pulled from about a 5 gram load. These were done at 175 hoping the higher heat would increase yield without losing that light color. Tomorrow I'll keep going higher until it goes dark then I'll back off and consider that my max temp
