I had a conversation with my sister tonight, and she said her friend has been growing for two years and still can't grow primo weed.

Is this guy just a shitty grower? Or does it take three or more years before you perfect the craft of growing something better than store bought crap?

She's a true blue believer in that store bought garbage, but then again, she has low standards and also works in that industry.
I think it depends on where you start the learning curve, Have you ever grown house plants or a garden? ever transplant or get your fingers in the dirt? Are you dedicated to learning how to grow or is it just a passing thought?......

Do you want to grow in dirt, DWC, hydro or a multitude of other methods?.......

I was at it 20+ years then I came here and learned how to grow better over the last 4 years........I let you know when I have it all under control and figured out.....

Don't hold your breath lol

Genetics man...you get some good ass genetics and you almost can't even mess it up

I firmly believe cooking & growing are very similar. There is definitely room for science and precision, accurate measurements etc (especially with baking) but there's also a "feel" or an intrinsic part of it that is based on things that cannot be measured or calculated.
There is also an art to it. To most things really. And that can and will show. I think that also helps tie it to cooking.

The smells. The textures. The colours.

I’ve noticed many people select and choose items in the garden, just like at a store, by the same means. Then enjoy and prepare the meal with the sole goal of having fun and sharing what they enjoy and create.

I’ve experienced the same thing but never with growing before. It was always a chore. Took pride in doing it well at best.

But after many years of not growing I’m finding it’s become more enjoyable. And I’m enjoying sharing what I’ve/we’ve accomplished.

I can’t say I’ll keep doing it but for the $$$ I’ve spent I think it’ll be for a few years. 🤣 And maybe because now that I’m interested I want to see what else we can do and how we can do it.

It seems to be difficult to kill the potency of a plant by most growing mistakes, as long as those mistakes don't kill the plant. I recently had a disastrous grow, with lockout of multiple nutrients during flower, but the buds that were produced were powerful AF. The yield was cut by about 2/3, but it was powerful AF.

Im sure any experienced dude can chime in but the more times you grow a strain you “should” get much better at growing. I have learned this the hard way by acquiring too many different strains at once. It put my newb ass in its place. The fastest route to primo home production is finding a couple banger strains that show stability. Of course the rest of ur inputs (lights, nutes, etc) cant be garbage but I think most people get that.

Anecdote: I bought a lot of different seeds when i first started and I struggled to produce that primo bud. What i didn’t understand is that my newb ass wasn’t actually buying good genetics like i thought. Said fck it and bought clones from bud. I burned em, overwatered em, and over lighted them. What did i learn? It didnt matter much bc Stardawg, GMO, and Chemdog 91 were the first “good” genetics I got lol. Super stoned sorry for ramble 🌱❤️😂

One more thing is curing

You can grow some bomb ass buds and kill it all with a bad cure. Alot of shit weed you see would actually be better with a better cure.

But as is with good genetics...when you got the staannnky annnky annky you almost can't even mess it up in cure.

I grew a couple plants at my mom's when I lived with her when I was younger...when I chopped it she could smell it from the mailbox outside. After I cured it, she could still smell it from the driveway.

Depends how you are learning and who is teaching you.

1 year. Or atleast 3 or 4 harvest.
