Humidity or not humidity issue?

Hi all.... Silly question.

I have plants in early stages. 6 days old to be precise. My tent app is calling for heavy humidity during the "seeding" phase. However the stats on my seeds say these plants like a warm dry climate. So... humidity is running in the mid 40's to the mid 50's. I have been putting a large pan of hot water in the tent to build up humidity. But should I do that if the seeds do not call for a humid environment?

What matters most is vpd. At this stage you should be around 0.8-0.9 vpd and stay at that till you decide to start veg as a general rule. If you think or have been told that your strain might like a most drier climate I would add 0.1 max 0.15 on your average vpd. Even if it varies I think cannabis seedlings should not go over 1.1 average vpd. In other words I would prioritize well being and fast growth of the seedling and when the plant is ready to start veg and want to express his phenotype characteristics adjust the rooms on your best beliefs!

Vpd in simple is driven by a combination of the temperature and humidity, for every stage of the plant growth there s a different vpd sweet spot, you'll have to do plenty of research if you want a rich and successful grow but feel free to ask anytime.
Generally the first 2 weeks are considered seedling stage, in a perfect scenario you should even adjust your light spectrum to a more bluish one during this stage and keep very humid the environment. Then usually the clone or the seedling have grown enough and got more robust to the point where you can start pushing with ppfd which is how much light is hitting the plant and feeding more nutrients. That's why often you will hear people use the expression 20 days From Seed for example cause thats like an anchor point everytime, some people start veg count from when they transplant the clones or other metrics so it could vary, usually a clone has been in a propagation tray 12 to 14 days before its transplanted.

My girls are 6 days old. The one on the right is watermelon and the one on the left is royal purple. Believe it or not, the purple sprouted one day after the watermelon and is really taking off.

I am using a 3x3 tent - (pics in profile somewhere lol) 18 hours lights on, also using a Deep Red additive light during those 18 hours, a 10 min IR light before the main lights, then a 10 min UV after the main light as recommended by the manufacturer. Then 6 hours darkness. Of course, I have to set the timers as they only get the additional lights on my days off. :(

Current temp 84 degrees F humidity 51%.

Will be starting nutrients next watering. Just got them today. Damn, they are expensive LMAO.

Do you have an humidifier by chance? If not get 1 on amazon from ac infinity, I have the big one and have to refill 15L every 3 days so you ll'have to refill with RO every 4 I assume. Your vpd is extremely high for a seedling, this vpd is even higher than what you'd want during final stages of flowering but its ok during veg if you have sufficient humidity to balance that and have the right vpd and fastest growth so if you are gonna have this high temp going let's raise that humidity to promote fast plant growth, especially when running autos,
Do you have all the tools to check parameters like ppfd, ph and ec?

I use this to know how to use supplemental lights, check towards the middle end the parameters

I have the mars-hydro lights. I have been following their recommendations.

No, I do not have a humidifier. Looks like I will have to get one. Looking over the data sheet, it says short summers, not sure where I got dry climate from. I will have to see if I can find one less expensive than that.... just spent 160.00 on nutrients.

Also... no tools. Was told not to worry too much about that too much right now. 1st grow in a very long time. Very 1st for a tent and grow lights.

Soil (atm) happy frog. Will mix with ocean forest upon transplant. This is the nutrient chart I am using. Minus the Bud Ignitor and Overdrive.

I was told to wait a bit before feeding as the happy frog has enough nutrients for a bit. At least until the plants are large enough. Should be when I transplant into a larger pot.

I went to my local dispensary and picked up a humidifier. They had the AC Affinity and I had a 25% off coupon. Got it for 40.00. They are on sleep time until 10.30 pm CST so I will have to install when they wake up. LOL.

Awesome if you don't live in a too dry climate it could last up to a week.
Just make sure the tubing is always vertical and you'll be set!
You Definitely will need an ec and ph pen to prevent any malnutrition and proper flowering

Looks like you're off to a pretty good start!

I'm not going to get into vpd, it's a great tool but it needs to be understood.
When I first started growing, my vpd wasn't in the correct range most of the time and I just followed temp and humidity and had still had great results. Definitely worth learning about and applying to.your grow though.

My seedlings run around 80 degrees and 55%-65% humidity. During veg I will lower humidity a little each week and generally will stay at 45%-50% throughout veg, I never let it drop below 40%. I never let my temp over 78 in veg.

You shouldn't need to use nutes until a couple weeks after you transplant, you will be adding Ocean Forest along with more Happy Frog so the plant will have "fresh" soil with nutrients in it when you transplant. Idk what ratio you plan to mix but I use 2 parts Ocean Forest to 1 part Happy Frog.

I can't comment on ph and ec meters when growing in soil, never used them or seen the need to use them. You will get a lot of opinions from both sides but if you're not having any issues, I don't see the need to buy one right away.

Just curious, what dimmer setting are you running on your light and how high above the plants?

Most of my equipment is AC Infinity, absolutely love them!
If you ever upgrade tents/equipment, definitely look at what they have.
IMO best inline fans and love full Automation with the Controller 69.

I would have gone with them but the same set up I have was 250.00 more with AC. Plus I got the additive lighting... As I replace filters, fans... I will probably go with them. But I did do some research and the FC3000 EVO light that came with my mars-hydro received some of the highest ratings. I was more concerned over the lighting more than anything (well, cost... LOL) and so far I am really happy.

The downside is that the instructions are minimal, print is too small to read so you have to look up videos. UG. This AC Infinity humidifier came in nice packaging and a really nice grow guide. Good instructions on installation too. Tiny hose... need to find a top spot to insert it... or just put the unit inside. Might be my only option.... cats may knock it over if left out. What is vpd?

Vapor Pressure Deficit (VPD) describes the difference between the water vapor at the leaf and the water vapor in the surrounding air. The greater the difference, the faster the movement of water from the leaves to the air. This is how water and nutrients move from the roots to the leaves. VPD provides a convenient index of this movement. Generally, the older the plant, the higher the VPD it can sustain.

Tiny hose... need to find a top spot to insert it... or just put the unit inside. Might be my only option.... cats may knock it over if left out. I ended up putting my humidifiers in my tents. I don't use the hose with the AC Infinity humidifiers.

Cats... They love cannabis. One of my cats will tear a plant apart if I'm not careful. He's a huge barn cat.

My last grow (1990's) I have 4 plants in my dining room all over 6 foot tall. 1st 2 feet did not have any leaves from my cats eating them.

Make sure the mist doesn't blow directly on plants.

Be careful with pin holes or anything that can make light leak into your tents during lights off, that's how you get hermies!

I put my AC Infinity humidifier hose in a duct port and pull it shut, see pic below in blue circle.

Haha I am glad to see you followed through with everything! I was watching a thread where you were getting some advice, it looks like you have been putting that wisdom to work. The people here know what they are talking about, and its good to see you follow through on advice given.

My first grow I didn't care about humidity, at all, and I didn't care about heat either. Was the bud good? Sure was no doubt, but it was light and fluffy and nowhere near my best, and sure that is sometimes genetics but in my case it wasn't. It wasn't until grow 3 I started addressing humidity/temp and realised how much of a difference it makes for such little effort. My buds started being more solid and less stretchy immediately, and I wished I had of addressed it earlier so its good you are looking in to it now.

don't forget you can't even follow vpd outdoor. VPD is something fairly new in the cannabis history, people have grown and enjoyed cannabis without having a clue about vpd for millenial. that being said:

cannabis can grow healthy and vigorous without you following precisely vpd, proper watering pratice and wet dry cycle are key. if your temperature is in range seedling and young plant won't care if your humidity is 20% or 70%, when in flower you will usually prefer below 50% as anything higher will potentially expose you to mold with the biggest buds depending strain and phenotypes

also controlling precisely vpd in a small tent could require a lot of effort and a lot more investement for very little gain than just dealing with the weather and the season indoor. it may depend in what room the tent is located in inside your house also.
