Still works like a champ.
A little dinged up, crusty, but it’ll still suck the hat right off your head. Damn must be 20 years old at this point…….

If heard whispers of what the kids say when I ain’t in the room,
Apparently going “out for fries” is code for taking me to a wind swept field, opening the car door telling me Carl’s Jr is “thataway” 👆🏻
Go grandpa, be free!!!!
“those little shits said my fries were out this way” ☠️ 🦅

Our two watched their mom and I care for their gramma and were there living in the house when she passed but it's not the same as doing for someone. Nothing like it and I wouldn't trade the experience with anyone ever😘 hardest and yet best thing I've ever done in my life😉 ever.
My wife as a new grad nurse went back east to care for two of four of her grand parents. She says the same thing about not trading the experience for nothing, her parents are on their own though she says!!!😂😂😂

Taking care of my grandad before he passed change me for the better big time. I wouldn't trade the experience for the world either. I wouldn't be who i am without it. And it was a very necessary step in maturing as a person to what little extent i've managed (lol)

1/10 Do not want to repeat the experience. I am completely prepared to though, and i know i will be. A big part of my making sure i have land and a place to reside now, is also rapped into how much of a cheapskate i am. It's absolutely 100% preparation for multiple versions of a future. One that can go any number of directions with friends and family both. It's dark to think about, but dying is unbelievable expensive and time consuming. And you have to be prepared even if it's not *your own* death. And if no one else will, guess that's me then.

Seriously.
It’s all metal and shit,
No plastic anywhere.
Brother in 2006:

"Why did you work for 3 summers and pay $2200 for a trek bike, you could buy 20 from walmart for that?!?!?!

Brother in 2024 three years after converting the trek to an Ebike, and having done thousands of miles on it for about $15 of electricity: "So how much would it cost me to do that with a new bike that would last this long?"

Me:

Oh idk, probably 10-12 grand.... And it definitely wont last you 20 years either.

Ive been hit by a car twice on this bike lol. It handle both impact better then i ever did, that's for sure.

Has since been converted to disk breaks and a front aluminum wheel because trek *used to* future roof their bikes and I had the option

when these things are my focus, people in my immediate life act like im being a downer, or dark or something.

Nah, im just making sure mom and dad are comfortable, that i am comfortable, and that the chaos that awaits us all is as minimized as possible. 🤙

Personally I dont think its dark, i just think it's wise lol.

I really do think the people who spend their life pushing certain things about death under the rug til its starring them in the face, is where the difference lies between those who face their own time with acceptance, and closure, and those who face it with fear and panic.

My grandad was not the first person ive been with at the end, definitely isn't going to be the last. I've had some very interesting, and for lack of a better word, enlightening conversations with several people meeting their time with a far range of perspectives on it. Ive been there with people who should've been more then fulfilled, facing the end with total panic, regret and longing, and ive been there with people i would've only imagined panicking, that faced the end with complete and total Grace, cracking jokes to the very end.

If you don't even have a relationship to death, at all, when the time comes... ?

Not dark. It's a meaningful chunk of, imo, quite beautiful wisdom im very thankful i came into so early on in life. One of those hard to explain, but easily understood "lifey things." lol.
