just wanted to make an introductionand share my set-up. It's odd to say that I 'm the oldertimer now. Alas, growing cannabis is now legal is the State of Ohio. The last time I dabbled in the hydroponics world was about 2o years ago, so I missed those years of experience, but we were having babies and I need to focus elsewhere. EMPTY NEST!!

As soon as I ifgure out how to add the links, I'll post the pics. This site seems VERY similar to the older site I frequented under this same name.

Here is the set-up. Res obviously underneath. grow media is the hydroton, I use the smallest cube of rock wool to sprout the seedling after germingn in a wet papertowl ( 36 hours was the first to pop). I added to drip emitter to keep the rockwool moist while also wetting a path to the flood area. My theory was all about air. I only leave the solution long flooding long enough to wet the hydroton. I may be behind the times...but air roots. Is that still a trend and desire? It always worked well for me.

This whole LED light is wild too. I remember hiding the air conditioner in the window in the middle of winter because the Metal Halide will heat the whole house. This is all a great science experiment to me.

I'll have to post an update pic of the infants. Keep this thread as a log for my "comeback grow". I have five total plants of four different strains. 2 Blueberry, 1 Grand Daddy Purp, 1 Skywalker haze, and one Bruce Banner. This is what I have from germing 8 seeds on 8/4/24. Grand Daddy purp was the first to pop, after only 36 hours soaking. THe Bruce Banner strain is questionable for me. It took the longest to germ. The one seed that survived (of 2 attempted) seems a little deformed, but I'll give it a go anyway...never know see what happens. The other seed did pop a tail but the cotlydons did not find there way out of the rock wool once transplanted. Another seed, I dont remember which strain but I let it germ longer and broke the tail ( cap root) when transplanting. and another seed had nothing inside. the two seed halves just parted into that...two seed halves. weird!

Welcome brother! There is a growing number of senior growers here at the farm so you have plenty of company. Like to see that hydroton!! LED's I'm clueless but if you need help with your system I might be able to share some of my mistakes.

Sorry, I'll have to figure out how to leave text describing each picture.

The top pic is Blueberry, 2 weeks since germ soak started. The is an old OG strain for me. In the past, the result I received from this strain in the past were absolutely delicious. Make it into butter and melt it on a stack of blueberry pancakes and it's wake and bake time. Best suited for a cold, football-game-watching-Saturday/ Sunday. The buzz is calm cool, long lasting and lazy.

The second pic from top is Skywalker Haze. it's a bit exciting to see a second set of leave with close nodes, barely any stretch. I think I see a set of true leaves beginning to emerge in the center. Off to a good start.

The third pic down, yes, it's the Bruce Banner. The genetic freak? We'll see.

Fourth pic down is the other Blueberry. I'm so happy to have two of these plants going. Again, it's a favorite of mine.

AND last but not least, or is it saving the best for last? The Main Event! Grand Daddy Purps!!!! This one has me SUPER PUMPED. This strain popped a tail from the seed in 36 hours!! This one is goign stroung and I think I see a hint of purple vein already.

My pH is a little higher than I like right now because I'm begining to transition from seeding feed, to vegetative push.

The sixth pic pic is the overall set up. All contained in a 4x4 tent from Mars . Seems to be of decent quality. I'm also running a Mars growlamp; 450W. I had it dimmed to 25%. I am now at about 60% and will increase it to 100% over the next 10 days or so.

The 7th and 8th pic are my stats. This is the coolest little gadget I have ever found, and the price was right. Amazon, $68, and it wifi connects to my phone with high/low alarms and real time readings. LOVE IT! Again, as mentioned before the pH will be coming down to about 6.4 soon. I will top off with fresh water in the 20 gallon res. Calcute the nutes, and bring the TDS to about 1400-1500, and adjust pH from there. I do think my water will be my secret weapon here. It's high in minerals, so from the tap I get near 900ppm, and NO chlorine. it tends towards the alkaline side however, so that may prove to be a challenge going forward. The res temp is fine at 71F. I'll have to pay attention to that humidity. It's been a bit unstable with wide fluctuations. Controlling this has been my biggest challenge so far. I probably dont want to air temp much high than I have now. I think I should be fine with cooler weather cooming.

So that's my grow in a nutshell! I'm feeling prett vulnerable laying it all out here. I cant fail!!! The pressure is now on. 🤣

Looking forward to exchanging mistakes with everyone. Knowledge is in the collective

Thanks.

In the past I tried the lerger blocks of rockwool. I was learning then. IO now use the hydroton with the theory and outlook that its just "replacement soil" to allow the roots to anchor, hide from the light and grow. Now I use the smallest cube I can find to secure the seedling. I liek to flood and drain quickly. I only want my roots to be in a high humidity, not water. the hydroton holds that moisture well. I feed about every 6 hours. I flood and drain within 3 mins.

I'm open to scrutiny. Again, it's been awhile and this Redeye Jedi may have forgotten a thing our two.

Welcome.

Ohio grower here too. We'll, I'm at least trying. Ha.

Your setup is nice.

I like your idea about us all sharing genetic information. It is very much needed in a state that has tropical weather half the year and artic like weather the other half. Even if we aren't sharing seeds, at least getting a database together of strains that can deal with our climate would be excellent.

Happy growing.

Thanks.

Red-eye Jedi! I'm using that. 🤣🤣🤣

My wife just ruined it and said that's sith. We are star wars fans. 😂

Be careful with that light intensity at this early of a stage, you will cook your plants. Save the higher levels for flower, when the plants need it. Your plants will thank you and so will your energy bill.
My lights don't see over 30%-40% and 24"-30" over the plant during veg, once I'm in flower I slowly turn up the light each week.
It doesn't take much to hit the correct daily light interval or ppfd while in veg.
